Foreign Minister Ambassador Ahmed Moalim Fiqi officially reopened the Ministry of Foreign Affairs archives, closed for over 30 years following the civil war. This milestone underscores the Ministry’s commitment to preserving Somalia’s diplomatic legacy.
Acting Permanent Secretary Said Mire thanked the Minister for reviving the archives, now equipped to securely store vital government documents. Ambassador Dr Mohamed Ibrahim Awaale (Charles), Director of the Archives Department, called the archives an invaluable tool for safeguarding Somalia’s history and fostering research into its foreign relations.
The reopening of the archives is a step forward in modernizing Somalia’s foreign affairs operations. These archives will not only preserve key historical documents but also serve as a resource for researchers, diplomats, and future policymakers. This effort aligns with the Ministry’s vision of fostering informed diplomacy and national progress.
