The Department of Education has temporarily agreed to block representatives from the Department of Government Efficiency from accessing sensitive student loan records, according to a filing late on Tuesday.
The University of California Student Association reached an agreement that prohibits any federal employee or contractor associated with DOGE from accessing records from Department of Education systems, including the National Student Loan Data System.
The agreement, which will stay in place as the lawsuit moves through the court, also bars any federal employees or volunteers associated with DOGE from sharing any information they might have already received from the Department of Education systems.

The Wall Street Journal reports that Shailesh Prakash, vice president and general manager of Google News, has departed the company amid ongoing tensions between the tech giant and news publishers. Prakash’s resignation comes at a time when Google’s relationships with news outlets remain strained over issues such as traffic declines and compensation for the use of their content.
Prakash joined Google two years ago from the Washington Post, where he spent over a decade as Chief Information Officer, overseeing data and technology. The Air National Guard member who pleaded guilty to leaking highly classified military docs about the Ukraine war is expected to be sentenced in federal court Tuesday.
Prosecutors have argued that Teixeira should be sentenced to 17 years in prison, saying he “perpetrated one of the most significant and consequential violations of the Espionage Act in American history.”

A federal judge rejected Sean “Diddy” Combs’ attempt to silence all potential witnesses in his criminal sex trafficking case on Friday, saying his concerns do not outweigh an alleged victim’s right to free speech.
Combs’ team moved for a gag order to stop potential witnesses and their attorneys from speaking publicly after more than a dozen civil lawsuits were filed alleging sexual assault and following media interviews one witness gave after he appeared before the grand jury.
Judge Arun Subramanian said he is balancing Combs’ right to a fair trial with the First Amendment rights of his alleged victims.
“Not all alleged victims will be participants in this case, and a blanket restriction on their speech will silence individuals who may never have anything to do with the proceedings here. And in any event, less restrictive alternatives must be considered and rejected before imposing a restraint on speech,” Judge Subramanian wrote in the order.

The Office of Special Counsel (OSC) accused White House domestic policy chief Neera Tanden of using her official capacity to campaign for Vice President Kamala Harris — a violation of the Hatch Act.
OSC brought a formal complaint against Tanden on Wednesday citing seven instances in which Tanden promoted Democratic candidates in key House and Senate races as well as Harris’s campaign on her X account.
Tanden reposted a tweet on Aug. 28 which read “the absolute best thing you can do to prevent a MAGA sweep is to contribute to the campaigns of frontline House candidates. These four are a good place to start.”
