Recommended acts related to the day of Eid and Eid prayer in the Hanbali madhab:

โ€ข To pray it in an open area, on the outskirts of the city nearby. Praying in an open area (like parks) inside the city doesn't fulfill this sunnah.

โ€ข For the followers to come early, and for the Imam to delay his arrival until near the time of prayer.

โ€ข To wear ones best clothes (except for the one who was in I'tikaf- he wears the clothes that he did his i'tikaf in)

โ€ขTo perform ghusl on the day of Eid. The time of ghusl starts from fajr, so doing ghusl before Fajr time doesn't fulfill this sunnah.

โ€ข To spend on one's family

โ€ข To give in charity

โ€ข To arrive by walk unless a person has an excuse to ride.

โ€ข To return on a route different to the route of arrival after Eid prayer.

โ€ข To eat before the Eid al-fitr prayer but not the Eid al-adha prayer. Recommended to have an odd number of dates.

It is prohibited and invalid to perform voluntary fasting (eg: the six days of Shawwal) before making up any missed obligatory fasts first, and if he has any vowed fasts he must perform those after the obligatory ones

One raises his hands and makes du'a in Taraweeh before the Ruku' after the recitation of Surah al-Nas (after completing the entire Qur'an). This is the recommended way according to the Hanabilah & was stated by Imam Ahmad himself. Imam Ahmad said that this was how people of Makkah made Du'a.

Some rulings pertaining to Zakah al-Fitr in the Hanbali Madhab

1) It is obligatory on every Muslim who has an excess amount of what he needs to feed himself and his family on the night of Eid and on Eid itself; and after meeting one's basic needs.

2) Zakah al-Fitr can only be from one of the following types of food:

It is 1 Sa'* of: wheat or barley or dates or raisins, or Aqit (a type of dried cheese).

If any of these five are available, it is not permissible to give other than them. So, giving rice when wheat or dates are available is not permissible. If none of the above are available, it is permissible to give from the staple food of the land (eg. rice).

Note: 1 Sa' is approximately 2.04 kgs

3) Zakah al-Fitr is obligatory on the one who is financially responsible for themselves. If one is financially responsible for others (wife, kids, parents etc.) it's obligatory to give for them too.

4) It is to be given in the land in which one is physically present (locally). It is not permissible to give Zakah al-Fitr in a city/town in which one becomes a traveller. (Eg. Not permissible for one living in London to give in Pakistan)

If one does do so, they are sinful but the Zakah al-Fitr still counts

5) If one's wife is pregnant, it is recommend to give Zakah al-Fitr on behalf of the foetus.

6) There are five times linked to Zakah al-Fitr:

โ€ข The permissible time: two days before Eid (from 29th day of Ramadan).

โ€ข The recommended time: when one is going to the Eid prayer.

โ€ข The obligatory time: It becomes obligatory from Maghrib on the night of Eid.

โ€ข The disliked time: after the Eid prayer until sunset on the day of Eid.

โ€ข The impermissible time: after sunset on the day of Eid. One is sinful for giving in this time without an excuse, but must still do so if not given earlier.

Traveling while fasting

-Breaking the fast is recommended for the one traveling on a permitted journey.

-It is makruh for him to fast even if there is no difficulty.

-This is for the one who is in the state of travel at fajr time upto maghrib time

Note: Ibn Taymiyyah mentions that the traveler who does not fast, gets two rewards: for taking the concession granted by Allah, and when making up the fast later

-The one who is a resident at fajr and becomes a traveler before maghrib: must begin day by fasting. Upon initiating travel (leaves his city): permissible to break fast, however recommended to fast

-The one who is a traveler at fajr time and knows that he will reach his residence before maghrib: obligatory to fast
