Sometimes English can make no sense at all!

A great example is ‘slim chance’ & ‘fat chance’

Looking at the phrases you would expect them to be opposites, but in face they both mean a very small chance. The difference is a slim chance is more positive or hopeful, while a fat chance is more sarcastic and pessimistic.

15 Second English

We can use the phrases:
🌟In the works (notice the strange ‘s’)
🌟In the pipeline

To discuss when something is currently in development but not quite finished yet

Welcome to the 2nd part of my IELTS series

Today we will look at how to write the first paragraph of an essay for writing part 2.

The prompt is for a discursive style essay - one in which we have to discuss both sides.

The structure is simple when you know how!

✍️ Context sentence - a sentence leading you into the topic of the essay without using any of the key words from the prompt.

✍️ paraphrase - reword the discussion pointing out that there are two opinions in the matter.

✍️ position - Where you stand on the matter.

Points to keep in mind:
📝Avoid using pronouns
📝Do not write to the reader
📝Formal language
