👋🏻 Today let's break down the differences between "later," "latter" and "letter," which are common sources of confusion.

🔹 LATER refers to time after a certain point

I’ll call you later.
Я позвоню тебе позже.

🔹 LATTER refers to the second of two things that have been mentioned

I’ve got a moped and a bicycle, I ride the latter more often.
У меня есть мопед и велосипед, я чаще езжу на последнем (= велосипеде).

🔹 LETTER refers to a written message or a symbol in an alphabet

I got a letter yesterday.
Я получил письмо вчера.

I don’t understand the letters on the board.
Я не понимаю буквы на доске.

Albert Einstein said "Anyone who has not made a mistake, has never tried anything new." Трудно не согласиться с великим учёным, уж он точно знал, что на ошибках учатся.

А что делать, когда знаем правило, но в спонтанной речи, в погоне за беглостью (fluency) или, чтобы не потерять мысль, мы делаем одни и те же элементарные ошибки? Так называемые закоренелые ошибки fossilized mistakes.

❌ He come home late.

✅ He comeS home late.

Здесь нужно подумать, зачем нам говорить правильно. Мы готовимся к экзамену по английскому языку или нам нужен язык для общения?

🗣️ Во втором случае исправление закоренелых грамматических ошибок НЕ стоит на первом месте, следует делать упор на лексику (устойчивые выражения, фразовые глаголы), аудирование и произношение.

🎓 Если цель — сдача экзамена итп, то рекомендую развивать "монитор" ошибок. Один из лучших, на мой взгляд, способов — это записывать себя на аудио, слушать, слышать ошибки, и повторять задание.

🔻WOULD + infinitive (V)

🔻HAD + past participle (V3/ed)

But

🔻HAD + BETTER + infinitive (V)

You’d (you had) better hurry up.

• HAIRS «волоски» – countable.
With numbers and -s or article “a”.

🌟-ENCE, -ANCE 🌟

These suffixes are used to make nouns from verbs or adjectives.

❗️They differ in spelling:

-Ance

-Ence

but the pronunciation is the same /(ə)ns/.

For example:

prefer - preference

perform - performance
