There is honestly a lot going on right now especially because midterms are near and I have exams back to back.

But, I wanted to share some news from recently.

1. I am currently working on a research project with some other people from PEG, and we will be presenting our project at an academic symposium October 18th (I am one of the 2 main speakers🫒)

2. I became the secretary and the treasurer for the Pre-Med club at my University, so we will see how that goes.

More on the way?🫑

I shadowed a radiologist at Augusta Health (one of the main medical centers/hospitals near my uni) last Tuesday, and I haven’t had the time to write about it until todayπŸ˜Άβ€πŸŒ«οΈ

I talked to him on the phone for half an hour, prior to scheduling any shadowing, as like an interview format. And then he told me to come into the hospital whatever day works best for me, so we scheduled for Tuesday since I don’t have any classes on Tuesdays.

His job mostly consists of going through different patients’s scans, diagnose them and recommend some possible treatment options/next steps that need to be taken, and deliver that information to the physicians in charge. He walked me through different cases, and asked me to try to look through some of them by myself and explain to him what I think about each of them, and gave me feedback on it. It was honestly so fun, I was at the hospital from 8 AM to 4.30 PMπŸ₯Ή

I am currently volunteering at a PALS camp for people with Down syndrome. It is a week-long program held in different states in the US, that creates immersive experiences where young adults with Down syndrome and their peers have fun and grow as individuals (taken from the website lol). The volunteers come in a day early, so I arrived here yesterday evening. We had several trainings till 2 PM today, which is when the participants arrived.

We greeted them and helped unpack their stuff, before heading out to dinner and doing introductions.

People with Down syndrome have delays in their cognitive and physical development and also a very increased risk for different health problems, such as thyroid problems. They also may look very very young, compared to their age. My partner is 21 but she looks 15 at most.

PS: none of the girls in the pictures are my partners, the girl in the pink shirt is another volunteer. And the other picture is taken from the internet.
