Days after Trump was sworn in for a second term as US president, a European diplomatic source told Italy's leading news agency ANSA that Trump plans to withdraw up to 20,000 US troops from Europe.
According to the same source, Trump plans to reduce the US military presence on the continent by about 20 per cent and intends to demand that NATO allies increase their financial contribution to cover the cost of maintaining the remaining forces.
According to the diplomatic source, Trump wants other NATO members to chip in because US troops act as a "deterrent force" and the cost of maintaining them should not fall solely on the shoulders of American taxpayers."
Trump has long demanded that NATO members ramp up defence spending to 5% of their gross domestic product, two and a half times the 2% norm set in 2014.

Lawrence Wilkerson, a retired colonel of the US Armed Forces, has suggested that a coup will take place in Ukraine. He said this in an interview with the YouTube channel Judging Freedom.
