FII Ownership of Indian Shares Drops to 12-Year Low, DIIs Set to Overtake FIIs as Biggest Owners After Promoters

1) FII Ownership at 12-Year Low
Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) now hold only 15.98% of shares in NSE-listed companies, the lowest in 12 years. In October, FIIs' total equity assets dropped to Rs 71.08 lakh crore, a decrease of 8.8% from Rs 77.96 lakh crore in September. This is the biggest fall since March 2020.

2) DII Market Share Hits a New High
As of September, Domestic Institutional Investors (DIIs) raised their share in NSE-listed companies to 16.46%, closing the gap with FIIs, who hold 17.55%.

3) October Flow of Funds
In October, DIIs saw a big inflow of Rs 1,07,255 crore, while FIIs had an outflow of Rs 94,017 crore.

4) November Flow of Funds
FIIs sold another Rs 15,000 crore worth of shares in November, making DIIs’ position even stronger in the market.

5) Combined DII + Retail Share
The combined share of DIIs, retail investors, and High worth individuals (HNIs) reached 26.04% in Q2.

Currently FIIs hold 15.98% of Indian shares, while DIIs and Indian retail investors together hold 26.04%. The rest of the shares are with promoters.

6) Global FPI Trends

- General Outflows: 8 out of 11 global markets saw net FPI outflows, highlighting a risk-off sentiment globally.
- China saw FPI inflows more than double that of India in September, adding to the shift in investment preferences. In Asia, after China - Taiwan, Philippines, and Japan saw net inflows.
- Markets like the Philippines, Malaysia, and Vietnam also saw declines, but India’s drop was the steepest.

This may be the Reasons for Indian stock market going down :

1. 70% of smallcaps and Midcaps are still expensive

2. Reliance is down roughly 20% after muted numbers & overall Q-2 earnings are weaker than expected.

3. Auto companies are guiding for weaker demands in future.

4. IPO market ( Hyundai + Waree + Swiggy + FPOs ) took away approx Rs. 45000 crores .

5. FIIs selling big time > 1 Lacs cr in last 41 days

6. ASM/ GSM Nonsense by regulator all the time, value of collateral is going down.

7. Post tax return from Indian market is going down due to higher STT and taxation ( Latest budget )

8. Spike in Dollar index & US bond yields.

9. RBI is extremely slow & looks like they are sleeping .

10. Local investors are also going slow, after recent losses.

11. China is cheap & Hence some FIIs are allocating fresh money to China more Vs India.

12. INR at all time low and Economy is clearly slowing down.

13. Many short term guys are selling deliveries also , bcoz they have better options in other markets, with lower taxation.
