Aryabhatta:๐Ÿ‘†

โ–ช๏ธ Aryabhatta was a fifth century mathematician, astronomer, astrologer and physicist. He was a pioneer in the field of mathematics.

โ–ช๏ธ At the age of 23, he wrote Aryabhattiya, which is a summary of mathematics of his time. There are four sections in this scholarly work. In the first section he describes the method of denoting big decimal numbers by alphabets.

โ–ช๏ธ In the second section, we find dificult questions from topics of modern day Mathematics such as number theory, geometry, trigonometry and Beejganita (algebra).

โ–ช๏ธ The remaining two sections are on astronomy. Aryabhatta showed that zero was not a numeral only but also a symbol and a concept. Discovery of zero enabled Aryabhatta to find out the exact distance between the earth and the moon. The discovery of zero also opened up a new dimension of negative numerals.

YADADRI TECHNIQUE๐Ÿ‘†

โ–ช๏ธ Telangana State government would be focusing its efforts on improving green cover in the State through what is being termed the โ€—Yadadri Modelโ€˜.

โ–ช๏ธ The model utilises the Miyawaki method of greening an area but also involving some localised techniques like usage of cow dung and urine for improving the fertility of soil.

โ–ช๏ธ The basic principle behind the model is high-density plantation in small areas.

โ–ช๏ธ There is no defined spacing between the plants and required number of plants per hectare may go up to 10000.

โ–ช๏ธ Success of the model depends on various sequences of events, like site selection, site development, soil nutrient enrichment, species selection, pit dimension, planting pattern, usage of organic bio-fertilisers and post-planting management including irrigation schedule.

โ–ช๏ธ The Yadadri Model has proven successful in not just making an area green but also creating rich biodiversity in the place. It is also cost-effective.

๐ŸŽ™ Centre issues new guidelines to regulate misleading advertisements by coaching institutes

๐ŸŸข The Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) has issued guideline that all coaching institutes must disclose relevant information regarding their students and courses to prevent parents and candidates from being mislead.

๐ŸŸข Consumer Affairs Secretary Nidhi Khare issued a set of guidelines in New Delhi against the misleading advertisement used by various coaching institutes.

๐ŸŸข The guidelines require coaching institutes to prominently display any disclaimer and clarification regarding its functioning while consent is required for use of photograph and testimonial from minor candidates only after their selection.

๐ŸŸข As per the guidelines, the institutes must also accurately declare their services, facilities and infrastructure.

๐ŸŸข The guidelines have established clear definitions of Coaching, Coaching Center and Endorser.

๐ŸŸข The Secretary further warned against advertising false and unverified claims, guarantees and success rate.

๐ŸŸข She mentioned that nine UPSC coaching institutes had claimed cummulatively over 2 thousand 600 selections during civil services exam last year, however, only around 1 thousand candidates were selected in that year.

๐ŸŸข The CCPA has so far issued notice to 45 UPSC coaching institutes and claimed over 56 lakh rupees in penalties for misleading advertisements.

๐ŸŸข Repeated violations may lead to higher penalties and even suspension.

๐ŸŸข The coaching institutes must also have a pro-active consumer grievance redressal mechanism.

๐ŸŸข So far over one crore rupees have been refunded by the institutes after intervention from the National Consumer Helpline from September last year to August this year.

๐ŸŸข The Secretary highlighted that these guidelines will bring transparency and truthfulness to inform the consumer better.

๐Ÿ”น The annual U.N. Climate Change Conference (COP29) kicked off in Baku, Azerbaijan, today.

๐Ÿ”น Dubbed the โ€˜Finance COP,โ€™ the two-week-long event will focus heavily on securing a new climate finance target for countries most vulnerable to climate impacts.

๐Ÿ”น For India and the Global South, access to finance, technology, and energy resources remains critical to meeting climate targets and protecting communities on the frontlines of climate change.

๐Ÿ”น At Baku, India will seek a New Collective Quantified Goal (NCQG) for climate finance, which is far ahead of the outdated 100 billion dollar annual target set in 2009.

๐Ÿ”น Indiaโ€™s Economic Survey 2023-24 indicates that India will need approximately 2.5 trillion dollars by 2030 to fulfil its commitments under the Paris Agreement.

๐ŸŽ™ First human case of H5 bird flu confirmed in Canada

๐Ÿ”น In Canada, a teenager in British Columbia has tested positive for bird flu, marking the countryโ€™s first confirmed human case of the H5 strain.

๐Ÿ”น The provincial health department said, the individual is receiving treatment in a childrenโ€™s hospital for H5 avian flu, where specialists are closely monitoring their condition.

๐Ÿ”น It has launched an investigation to trace the infectionโ€™s source and identify any potential contacts.

๐Ÿ”น Health officials suspect the transmission likely originated from an animal.

๐Ÿ”น British Columbia Health officials said this is a rare event and they are conducting a thorough investigation to fully understand the source of exposure.

๐Ÿ”น Bird flu is most commonly found in wild birds and poultry, but has more recently been detected in mammals, with an outbreak in cattle seen across the United States this year.

๐Ÿ”น It can occasionally infect humans through close contact or contaminated environments.

๐Ÿ”น Scientists have voiced concern about the growing number of mammals becoming infected by bird flu, even if cases in humans remain rare.

๐Ÿ”น They fear a high rate of transmission could facilitate a mutation of the virus, which could enable it to be passed from one human to another.

๐ŸŽ™ ISRO Starts Indiaโ€™s First Analog Space Mission To Plan Lunar Mission Experiments

๐ŸŸข Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has started the countryโ€™s first analog space mission at Leh in Ladakh, where space agency will simulate life in an interplanetary habitat.

๐ŸŸข The move assumes significance as India is planning to send a human to the Moon in the near future.

๐ŸŸข Analog space missions are field tests in locations on Earth that have physical similarities to the extreme space environments and play a significant role in problem solving for spaceflight research.

๐ŸŸข Ladakh has been chosen for such a mission as the geographical features of the area โ€“ dry and cold climate, barren land, high-altitude terrain and extreme isolation โ€“ are considered to closely resemble Martian and lunar landscapes.

๐ŸŸข The month-long mission comes in the wake of Indiaโ€™s plans to set up lunar habitats, which could provide a base to launch interplanetary missions.

๐ŸŸข The mission includes a compact, inflatable habitat named Hab-1, which is equipped with essentials like a hydroponics farm, kitchen, and sanitation facilities.

๐ŸŸข It provides a self-sustaining environment, offering valuable data as India is planning long-duration space missions to the Moon, Mars, and beyond.

๐ŸŸข In a post on social media, ISRO said, analog space mission at Leh is a collaborative effort by Human Spaceflight Centre, ISRO, AAKA Space Studio, University of Ladakh, IIT Bombay, and supported by Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council.

๐ŸŸข Lying at an elevation over 3,000 metres above sea level, Ladakh has oxygen levels only 40 percent of those at sea level.

๐ŸŸข The low-pressure and low-oxygen setting allows researchers to evaluate life support systems under conditions similar to those on Mars.
