Demand-pull inflation is like a game of musical chairs where there are too many players and not enough chairs. Imagine everyone wants the same chair, but there aren't enough to go around.

In economics, demand-pull inflation happens when there's too much money chasing too few goods. This means people have more money to spend, but there aren't enough products or services available. As a result, businesses can raise their prices because they know people are willing to pay more.

Think of it like this:

* Too much money: People have more money to spend, maybe because they got a raise or the government gave them a stimulus check.

* Not enough stuff: There aren't enough products or services to meet the increased demand. This could be because factories can't produce things fast enough or there's a shortage of raw materials.

* Prices go up: Businesses see that people are eager to buy, so they raise their prices. This makes things more expensive for everyone.
So, demand-pull inflation is basically when everyone wants to buy something, but there's not enough to go around, so prices go up.

UPSC preparation with Kunal

17 Jan, 17:51

Cost push inflation

Cost-push inflation is like a domino effect where rising production costs force businesses to increase their prices.

Here's the simple breakdown:

* Imagine a bakery:
* The cost of flour, eggs, and butter suddenly goes up.

* To make a profit, the bakery has to raise the price of its bread.

* Now imagine this happening across many industries:

* If wages for workers rise, companies have to pay more, leading to higher prices for their products.

* If the cost of raw materials like oil or metals increases, manufacturers have to charge more for their goods.

This chain reaction of rising costs pushes prices up for consumers.

Key takeaway: Cost-push inflation happens when the increased cost of making things forces businesses to pass those higher costs on to you in the form of higher prices.

Different Drainage patterns of River

Imagine a map of a river and its smaller streams. The way these rivers and streams are arranged on the map is called a drainage pattern. It's like the unique fingerprint of a region, influenced by the landscape and how the land was formed.
Here are a few common types:

Dendritic Pattern: This is the most common type, looking like the branches of a tree. The main river is like the trunk, and smaller streams branch off like twigs. This happens in areas with gently sloping land.

Trellis Pattern: Imagine a vineyard with rows of vines. This pattern resembles that, with parallel streams joined by short, straight tributaries. It's often found in areas with folded mountains.

Rectangular Pattern: This pattern looks like a grid, with rivers and streams meeting at right angles. It's common in areas with lots of faults and fractures in the rocks.

Radial Pattern: Picture a volcano. Rivers flow outwards from the central peak like spokes on a wheel. This happens in areas with a central high point.

Let's understand what Docking is.

Docking in Space: A Simple Explanation
Imagine two spaceships floating in space, each like a tiny island in a vast ocean.  Docking is like them carefully maneuvering and joining together, creating a bridge or connection between them.

Why is docking important?
* Sharing Supplies: It allows astronauts to transfer supplies like food, water, and fuel between spacecraft.

* Crew Exchange: It enables astronauts to move between different spacecraft, like changing from one ship to another.

* Building Space Stations: Docking is crucial for assembling large space stations, where many modules are connected together.

* Space Exploration: It's essential for future missions to the Moon, Mars, and beyond, where spacecraft may need to dock with landers or other vehicles.

How does it work?
* Precise Maneuvering: Both spacecraft use thrusters to carefully adjust their positions and speeds to get very close to each other.

* Docking Mechanism: Special mechanisms, like hooks or clamps, are used to physically connect the two spacecraft.

* Safety Systems: Many safety systems are in place to ensure a safe and controlled docking process.

Outcomes of COP29.

COP29, held in Azerbaijan, saw several key outcomes:

New Global Climate Finance Goal: A landmark agreement was reached to triple climate finance for developing countries, setting a new target of $300 billion annually by 2035. This significantly increases the previous goal of $100 billion.

Loss and Damage Fund Operationalized: The long-awaited Loss and Damage Fund was fully operationalized, providing a crucial mechanism for assisting developing countries in addressing the irreversible impacts of climate change.

Article 6 of the Paris Agreement Finalized: After years of negotiations, the rules governing international carbon markets under Article 6 of the Paris Agreement were finalized. This paves the way for countries to trade carbon credits and collaborate on emissions reductions more effectively.

Focus on Just Transition: COP29 emphasized the importance of a just transition, ensuring that the shift to a low-carbon economy benefits all, particularly workers and communities impacted by the transition away from fossil fuels.

These outcomes represent significant progress in the global fight against climate change, but further action is urgently needed to meet the goals of the Paris Agreement.

27 from reasoning
27 from english comprehension

or

solve all pyqs 2013 to 2023. it will help you a lot.

if you able to prepare atleast 2 areas thoroughly then you can attempt min 53 Qs

once you prepare for 53 Qs then try to solve min 10 qs (which is doable ) from 3rd area.

Extract of todays article on "What are the stress factors for Indian Railways?"

Accidents: Recent derailments (Agartala-Lokmanya Tilak Express) and a rear-end collision near Chennai, both with no casualties.
Balasore Accident: On June 2, 2023, more than 275 casualties, highlighting safety pressures against operational strains.

Frequency of Accidents
Trend: Railway accidents decreased from 1,390/year in the 1960s to 80/year recently.

Consequential Accidents:
34 in 2021-2022
48 in 2022-2023
40 in 2023-2024

Causes:
55.8% due to railway staff failure
28.4% due to non-staff failures
6.2% due to equipment failure

Signaling Issues: Blamed for recent accidents.

โ€˜Kavach
โ€™ System
Purpose: Automatic train protection system to prevent collisions.
Current Status: Installed on 1,465 route km (2% of total).

Cost: โ‚น50 lakh/km; overall cost less than 2% of Railwaysโ€™ annual capex.
Implementation Pressure: Accelerated post-Balasore accident.

Limitations: Might not have prevented some accidents; operational thresholds may exceed Kavachโ€™s effectiveness.

Financial Aspects
Operating Ratio (OR): Estimated at โ‚น98.2 for 2024-2025 (improvement from โ‚น98.7 in 2023-2024 but decline from โ‚น97.8 in 2016).

Budget Dependence: High OR limits capital expenditure and increases reliance on budgetary support and Extra-Budgetary Resources (EBRs).

Revenue Growth: EBRs have risen to 17% of revenue receipts (from 10% in 2015-2016).

Freight Services

Revenue Contribution: Freight accounts for 65% of internal revenue; rates have increased faster than passenger rates (2009-2019).

Network Utilization: Nearly 30% of the network is over 100% capacity, leading to slow freight movement.

Dedicated Freight Corridors (DFCs): Only one fully operational; others in planning phases.

Reliance on Coal: Coal represents half of freight revenue, amid shifts towards renewable energy.

Passenger Services Revenue

Losses: Significant losses from passenger services (e.g., โ‚น68,269 crore in 2021-2022).
Projected Revenue: Estimated at โ‚น80,000 crore for 2024-2025.

Traffic Growth: Anticipated increase due to new trains; shift towards more expensive AC coaches.

Safety Challenges

Competing Goals: Balancing affordable travel with profitability.
Cost Pressures: Increasing wage, pension, and fuel costs.
Work Conditions: Stressful 12-hour shifts for locomotive pilots; operational challenges in congested networks.

Alert System Failures: Ineffectiveness of homegrown alert systems for trackside workers.

Conclusion

Indian Railways faces ongoing pressures to improve safety and capacity while managing financial constraints, operational inefficiencies, and growing demand for services.
