Karnataka has made significant progress in reducing tuberculosis (TB) incidence, achieving a 40% reduction compared to the 2015 baseline. This progress aligns with India's ambitious goal of eliminating TB by 2025, five years ahead of the global Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) target.

Key Statistics:

- TB Incidence: Decreased from 176 cases per lakh in 2015 to 104 per lakh in 2024.
- TB Deaths: Reduced from 5,115 in 2023 to 3,711 in 2024.
- TB Notifications: 78,018 notifications recorded in 2024, including 28,280 from private practitioners.

Despite these achievements, challenges remain, including underreporting by private practitioners and stigma surrounding TB-HIV co-infection. To address these challenges, Karnataka launched a 100-day TB case detection campaign under the National TB Elimination Programme (NTEP) .

India has also made significant progress in reducing TB incidence, with a 17.7% decline from 2015 to 2023, according to the World Health Organization (WHO)

A sculpture of a Jain Tirthankara and a stone pillar were discovered near Basaveshwara Temple in Sulugodu village, Hassan district, during agricultural activities. The village, which has a history of Jain-related artefact discoveries, has seen similar finds, including sculptures, stone lamps, and a statue of Kalabhairava in recent years. Villagers have preserved some artefacts, such as a Mahavira-like statue placed near the temple. Residents, relocated to Sulugodu in 1963 after their villages submerged in the Hemavathi backwaters, lack historical knowledge of the area and have called for official excavations to uncover and protect the site's rich heritage.

A suspected case of Mpox, formerly known as monkeypox, was reported in Bengaluru, marking the likely first case in the state this year. A 40-year-old man with a travel history to Dubai has been admitted to Victoria Hospital for treatment, with investigations ongoing to confirm further details. Mpox, a viral zoonotic disease caused by the monkeypox virus of the Orthopoxvirus genus, is similar to smallpox but generally less severe. It spreads through close contact with infected individuals, contaminated objects, or animals and presents symptoms like fever, rash, swollen lymph nodes, and fatigue. The disease gained international attention last year after cases surged in Africa and spread to other countries, leading the WHO to declare it a 'Public Health Emergency of International Concern' in August 2024. India reported its first case in September 2024, with two recent cases recorded in Kerala last month.

The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) is set to establish small animal rescue centres in three city zones—Dasarahalli, East, and South—to rescue and treat stray and abandoned dogs and cats, marking a first for a civic body in Karnataka. These centres, integrated with existing Animal Birth Control (ABC) facilities, will include dedicated spaces to house at least 20 animals and deploy staff for treatment. BBMP, which currently relies on NGOs for such rescues, plans to independently manage the process, including coordinating with NGOs for pet adoption. The initiative, long overdue as per Section 59(11) of the Karnataka Municipal Corporation Act, 1976, is part of BBMP's broader animal welfare programme and aims to address a decades-old gap in urban animal care.

• A parliamentary Standing Committee on Agriculture, led by Congress leader Charanjit Singh Channi, has recommended a legally guaranteed Minimum Support Price (MSP) for crops, emphasizing its potential to address farmer suicides and improve rural livelihoods. The report, tabled in Parliament, called for doubling the PM-KISAN scheme's financial assistance to ₹12,000 annually and extending benefits to tenant farmers and laborers. The committee argued that a legal MSP would enhance rural economic growth, stimulate local businesses, and ensure national food security. Assured income through MSP could enable farmers to invest in sustainable practices, mitigate market risks, and alleviate debt burdens, significantly reducing distress. The panel urged the government to outline a roadmap for implementing MSP as a legal guarantee, predicting it as a transformative step for Indian agriculture.

The procedure for removing a High Court judge like Justice Shekhar Kumar Yadav involves several steps. First, a notice of motion for removal must be signed by at least 50 members of the Rajya Sabha or 100 members of the Lok Sabha.

The Chairman or Speaker will then decide whether to admit the motion. If admitted, a three-member committee consisting of Supreme Court/High Court judges and a distinguished jurist will be formed to investigate the allegations.

If the committee finds the judge guilty of misbehavior or incapacity, the report will be taken up in Parliament, which must then pass the motion with a special majority.

In this case, Justice Yadav is facing impeachment for making communally charged remarks at an event organized by the Vishwa Hindu Parishad. The Supreme Court has issued a notice seeking details of the speech, and Justice Yadav is likely to appear before the Supreme Court Collegium to explain his stand.

- Post-Pandemic Demand: The post-pandemic surge in pent-up demand has faded.
- Monetary Policy: Tight monetary policy and RBI's macroprudential crackdown on unsecured credit are reflected in the slowdown in personal loans and lending growth.

Additionally, the Reserve Bank of India's (RBI) growth estimates for India have been questioned by economists, with some considering them overly optimistic . The RBI maintains its prediction of 7.2% growth for the fiscal year ending in March 2025, despite signs of slowing economic activity.
