As the Tabots (replicas of the Ark of the Covenant) are carried in vibrant processions and communities gather to witness the reenactment of Christ’s baptism, Timket becomes more than a celebration—it is a call to embrace purity of heart, community harmony, and the renewal of our collective spirit.

In Ethiopia, Timket transforms neighborhoods into colorful arenas of fellowship and joy, where people of all walks of life come together to honor tradition and celebrate their shared faith. Recruit Rotary Peace Fellow candidates!
Rotary and Rotaract clubs can work with their district Rotary Foundation chair or Rotary Peace Fellowship subcommittee chair to recruit and recommend candidates for Rotary Peace Fellowships. Each year, the Foundation awards up to 130 fellowships to experienced peacebuilders from around the world so they can study at one of our Rotary Peace Centers. The fellows can earn a master’s degree or an advanced professional development certificate in disciplines related to peace and development.

Applications will be accepted from 1 February through 15 May. Peace fellows will begin their studies in 2026 at partner universities in Australia, Japan, Sweden, Türkiye, Uganda, the United Kingdom, and the United States. Find out who is eligible and how they can apply. The Foundation pays for tuition and fees, room and board, round-trip transportation, and internship and field-study expenses. Clubs and districts do not need to provide funding in order to recommend fellowship candidates. Use this referral form to have information sent to potential candidates.

Since the Rotary Peace Centers program began in 2002, more than 1,800 fellows have graduated from our programs. They are working in peace and development in more than 140 countries.

In Australia (above), the West Bank, Italy, and Taiwan, Rotary members are fixing up old devices and giving them to people in need. That’s important because:

The tenure for these roles will be for 12 months, commencing on 1 July 2025. Before assuming office, we will have several leadership, planning, and bonding sessions.

Coming together to protect our local ecosystems 🤝 💚

🌿 When Vallisneria, an invasive aquatic plant, began threatening the natural habitat of Saga City’s river in Japan, the Rotary Club of Saga South partnered with their community to help.

🐟 With support from local nonprofits, junior high students, city officials, media, and community members, they organized a hands-on service day to remove the invasive plant and restore the river’s ecosystem.

📚 Before the cleanup, the club led an educational session at a local school, teaching students about environmental preservation.

🌎 Thanks to their efforts, dragonflies, freshwater fish, and aquatic plants are thriving again, protecting endangered species and preserving the river’s biodiversity.

Selamawi, Afri, and Tigray Youth Association Join Forces for Peace in Ethiopia

We are proud to announce the launch of a significant collaboration between the Selamawi Rotary Ethiopia Peace Program, the Afri Program, and the Tigray Youth Association, supported by the Federal Republic of Germany. This partnership is a milestone in advancing grassroots peacebuilding initiatives across Ethiopia, with a focus on scaling up efforts in Mekelle, Bahirdar, and beyond.

The Selamawi Rotary Ethiopia Peace Program unites all levels of Rotary—Rotary, Rotaract, Interact, Clubs and Rotary Community Corps—working in alignment with Rotary International’s global peace vision. Similarly, the Afri Program, spearheaded by Timret Lehiwot Ethiopia, has been a driving force in engaging youth through peace, art, and leadership initiatives. The collaboration with the Tigray Youth Association, a well-structured grassroots organization, further amplifies the reach and impact of this initiative.

We also recognize the invaluable contributions of Rtn Hanna Abebe, whose leadership played a pivotal role in the formation of the Rotary Club of Mekelle, which now actively leads these efforts on the ground.

Meet Rtr Aschalew Melese, an ABET-accredited mechanical engineering graduate from Bahir Dar University. With experience in maintenance, diagnostics, and design at Daylight Applied Technologies PLC, Aschalew transitioned into project management and community service, honing leadership skills as President of the True Culture University (TCU) Bahir Dar Chapter.

A graduate of Dereja's DAAP program, he enhanced his project management expertise and now serves as Club Champion Director at Rotaract Abugida and professional development assistant lead at Rotaract@Work. He actively contributes to fundraising, community service, and club activities. Aschalew aspires to innovate industrial solutions as a senior mechanical engineer.

Selamawit Tezera has over 7 years of experience in youth inclusion, gender, and digital rights. She has worked with African Feminism, FRIDA, and other organizations, and supported regional feminist groups as a global advisor for FRIDA.

As a Safe Sisters fellow, she trains over 100 women in digital security. She recently founded sheEsecures, advocating for women's digital rights and internet freedom. Selamawit is also a Mandela Washington Fellow.

Jack Sim, affectionately known as “Mr. Toilet,” is a Singaporean entrepreneur and philanthropist who has dedicated his life to improving global sanitation. In 2001, he founded the World Toilet Organization (WTO) to address the sanitation crisis affecting billions worldwide. His advocacy led to the United Nations’ recognition of World Toilet Day on November 19, bringing international attention to the importance of proper sanitation. Rotary's very first service project was introducing a public toilet in Chicago in 1907, proving we've been flushing away barriers to public health for over a century.

🎀 October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month! 🎀

What is Breast Cancer?

🔍 Breast cancer occurs when cells in the breast begin to grow uncontrollably, forming a tumor that can be felt as a lump or seen on an X-ray. It can affect both women and men, though it is far more common in women.

Current Epidemiology :

➡️ Approximately 1 in 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime.
➡️ In 2023, an estimated 290,000 new cases of invasive breast cancer are expected to be diagnosed in the U.S. alone.
➡️ Early detection through regular screenings can significantly improve outcomes.

October, recognized as Economic and Community Development Month in Rotary, offers us a unique opportunity to focus on eradicating poverty and promoting sustainable change.

Ending social injustice begins by addressing the root causes of poverty, inequality, and exclusion. As Rotarians, we believe that peace is possible when communities thrive, and communities thrive when individuals are empowered with the tools to lift themselves from poverty. Through our service, we are not just providing short-term relief; we are building a foundation for long-term prosperity, ensuring that every person has access to opportunities and a life of dignity.

Michael jumped into the entrepreneurial world right after his graduation; not as a business founder, but in an entrepreneurial capacity building project. Since then he has been enthusiastic about business strategy. And he was able to work his strategy skills through his engagement at Efuye Gela Solution Providers.

He is currently the Chair for Green Rotaract Concept Ethiopia where’s he is expected to show what he has got as a leader during changing times.
