🇮🇱🇵🇸🇶🇦🇺🇸 There have been talks about a ceasefire for months, so take that with a grain of salt, both sides could increase its demands tomorrow, especially since the Netanyahu government depends on the extremist vote.

But I am generally more optimistic this time, as Trump’s term approaches and his containment approach wont be any different than the current administration more willingness will be shown to implement a diplomatic solution.

🇮🇱🇵🇸🇶🇦🇺🇸 In the last hours, there are rumours of a hostage deal between Israel and Hamas, which could pave the way for a ceasefire.

The US is pressing for a deal before Donald Trump takes office on 20 January. Through Trump’s Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff, Netanyahu has been forced to accept compromises. While the Israeli PM had been pushing for a temporary ceasefire that only related to the first phase of the three-stage proposal Israel submitted last May, the final agreement is increasingly closer to the original offer, with clauses connecting the first phase with the two others. This will make it harder for Israel to resume fighting once the initial stage goes into place. It’s also rumoured that Israel will agree to withdraw from the Philadelphi Corridor during the first phase, even though most officials deny it up to date.

This evening Netanyahu is meeting with national security minister Itamar Ben Gvir, who is the most fierce opponent of a deal. Tomorrow is the next top level meeting in Doha.

In 1943, UPA carried out a series of massacres in the Volyn and Eastern Galicia regions, resulting in the deaths of an estimated 100,000 Polish civilians. The massacre has impacted relations between both countries, as Poland recognises it as a genocide and Ukraine as a conflict in which both sides were responsible, with Polish government and opposition officials stating that Kyiv won’t join any alliance until the issue is resolved. In an opinion poll carried out by the Mieroszewski Center, the percentage of Ukrainians having a good opinion of Poles has decreased from 67% to 44.5% in the past year.

A CIO official said that investigators got within 200 metres of the residence building but were deterred from getting any closer, as more than 10 vehicles and about 200 personnel were blocking it.

🇬🇷🇮🇱 Greece and Israel are nearing an agreement on purchasing 40 PULS multiple rocket launchers (MRLs) and rockets with a range of up to 300 kilometres, aiming to increase defence capacities in Evros and the islands.

The total cost will range from 500 to 700 million euros and will include the certification and support of the system for 10 years as well as the training of operators. The belligerents also examine how the local defence industry can assist in the agreement to reduce costs.

The PULS launcher has been used in the Gaza and Nagorno-Karabakh wars.

The attack happened at 3:15 a.m. in the bustling French Quarter, a major destination for New Year’s Eve parties and home to large crowds gathered for the Sugar Bowl college football game later that day. The suspect, who rammed into pedestrians at high speed, was killed in a firefight with police, officials told the Associated Press.

Authorities, speaking anonymously as they were not authorized to share details publicly, revealed that an improvised explosive device was also discovered at the scene. FBI Assistant Special Agent Alethea Duncan confirmed the investigation into the device.

At a news conference, New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell called the incident a “terrorist attack,” while the city’s police chief emphasized the deliberate nature of the act. An assistant FBI agent in charge declared that it was “not a terrorist event.” The news conference ended before authorities could reconcile the two characterizations.

The hackers compromised third-party cybersecurity service provider BeyondTrust and were able to access unclassified documents. According to a letter sent to lawmakers, hackers gained access to a key used by the vendor to secure a cloud-based service used to remotely provide technical support for Treasury Departmental Offices (DO) end users. With access to the stolen key, the threat actor was able to override the service’s security, remotely access certain Treasury DO user workstations, and access certain unclassified documents maintained by those users.

Only 8 IS-Somalia fighters participated in the attack, half of them wearing explosive belts which suggests they engaged knowing they won't return, casualties among Puntland forces are still unclear, but locals report more than 20 ambulances being sent to the area, the terrorist organization hasn't commented on the event yet, this is the biggest attack by IS in the area in years.

Local sources also report foreign fighters participated in the attack, as we have previously reported is a large portion of IS-Somalia's manpower.
