Today the World Hello Day is celebrated! 👋

When international students come to Russia, some feel confused choosing between ways to greet others. We decided to describe the difference between two most popular Russian hello-words, i.e. "Привет" and "Здравствуй".

And how do you usually greet others in your native language? Feel free to share in the comments ⤵️

New Chapter in Disease Diagnosis 🍾

NUST MISIS researchers have developed a nanobiosensor that can detect copper ion concentrations in living cells and organs in vivo. This innovation could transform how we diagnose and monitor conditions like cancer, Alzheimer’s, and other serious health issues.

The sensor works without damaging cells, providing faster and more accurate results than traditional methods. It can also help check the effectiveness of copper-based medications and tracking health dynamics.

November 19 is Higher Education Teacher’s Day in Russia! We’re celebrating it with our "Who is" series 💙

Today’s cards are about professors who taught at NUST MISIS over the years. They mentored scientists who now work all around the world and made significant contributions to science. We hold warm memories of each of them.

In Russia, people love responding with proverbs and sayings. To help you better understand the language, we want to explain the meanings of some of them 😉

🔹 «Утро вечера мудренее» ("Morning is wiser than evening") — people say this when they need to make an important decision. This means you need to think things over and not rush into quick actions.

🔹 «Глаза боятся, а руки делают» ("The eyes fear, but the hands get it done") — this is said about a task that only seems intimidating. But once you start, the worry fades.

🔹 «Друг познается в беде» ("A friend in need is a friend indeed") — this phrase is often used in stories about friendship. It means that true friendship is tested by difficult times.

🔹 «Хлеб — всему голова» ("Bread is the head of everything") — bread has special significance in Russia: it is used to greet guests, accompanies any dish, and is enjoyed both fresh and dried. No holiday table would be complete without it.

🔹 «Первый блин комом» ("The first pancake is a lump") — this saying means that things don’t usually work out perfectly on the first try. It’s also sometimes said during Maslenitsa, as the first pancakes aren’t always perfect.
