Up to 235 million Americans were affected by the storm, which the U.S. National Weather Service (NWS) described as "a generational winter storm event." Schools, government offices, as well as many shops and restaurants were closed across the region on Tuesday. Numerous roads were covered with snow and some with ice mix. The governors of Gulf Coast states have issued a state of emergency.

Flash floods and landslides in Central Java, Indonesia, left at least 20 people dead and 8 missing after torrential rain caused rivers to overflow, sending a surge of water, mud, and debris through 9 villages in Pekalongan Regency. Kasimpar village was the worst affected, where landslides and flash floods claimed several lives.
