"Throughout my career, I have never talked about or really commented on the move rumours during the season. There have been many such years where it has been talked about. It doesn’t affect me."

"I think I am a completely different player now. I think his thinking was, with me being a midfielder back then, to know I was comfortable on the ball, knowing we would have a lot of possession."

"I am not sure if that means anything now, especially as I feel my game is completely different now to how it was back then."

"He was a good person to me, he gave me my debut and I think without that, it wouldn't have given me the confidence.

🗣️ “It was quite close, to be honest. I was desperate to go at the time and work with him especially. I felt like my style would suit his style of play, the way he was playing at Chelsea which was very exciting for me.

It didn’t end up happening. It was a big opportunity for me that didn’t end up happening and I’m looking forward to getting to work with him a couple of years later.”
