I’ll be featured as a guest to share and speculate about the following:

— Какого это, когда мысли в голове звучат на трех и более языках?
— Как язык формирует мышление? Как растут трилингвы или билингвы?
— Как готовиться к международным экзаменам?
— Как облегчить свою языковую адаптацию в новой стране?

Buzzingggg!… But nervous too. Their podcast episodes are predominantly in Russian — hope to feel comfortable with my multilingual speech ❤️‍🩹🥹

I decided to join Threads
and here's one of my first posts вот ссылка:

Анализирую перевод книги и не понимаю why they had to either occasionally exaggerate or understate certain descriptions:

“I hate the way he talks to me” — «Мне противна его манера разговаривать со мной»

“…with back turned to the shrill intrusive light” — «…

Я не специалист в переводе — тем более, литературном, — but why do we overlook все эти неточности и своеобразную вольность переводчиков в художественной литературе? 💔

Feeling in English ❤️‍🩹

Frankly, I could speculate and talk about this divide until the end of time. It’s all science, really. Code-switching while expressing different emotions is essentially a way of holding onto your identities — I believe so. Can’t agree that greater emotional arousal is only associated with one’s first language.

1) A small compliment will always lift my mood (=make me feel better).
2) She tends to be in the low spirits when it’s raining (so me!).
3) I sank into despair after they rejected my visa application. (=get hopeless)
4) I was journaling while sick to keep the spirits up. (=remain cheerful)
5) I can tell that something’s weighing on him / his mind (=make worried).
6) Anything you want to get off your chest? I’m here to listen. (=share, reveal sth that’s been worrying you)

Hugs,
Annie

More tongue twisters? 🐑
spoiler: I struggled with the last one so much ahaha

1. The thirty-three thieves thought that they thrilled the throne throughout Thursday.

2. Lesser leather never weathered wetter weather better. (so hard with the American accent haha)

THIS is not to be missed!

What a brilliantly insightful, transparent and therapeutic fluid conversation. All of these ladies are so down to earth and authentic. Came for Angelina Jolie first, though, — her poised, magnetic and full-of-wisdom aura with graceful demeanor. Her observant character is so me! ❤️‍🩹

The majority speaks American English, and Tilda has a British accent.

Other than being so profound, this is a gem language-wise too!

On memories 📚

How can we learn not to overlook the brain's inexplicably immense power to protect our memories, both recent and remote? and then turn them into either long- or short-term memories?

If only there was a chance to take over! I've once read somewhere that the brain subconsciously blocks out things that it conceives to be harmful or unimportant for us to remember. How do you know, your majesty? I might be a peasant, but have I ever relinquished my right to choose what to protect as a core memory that is shaped from my personal life experience?

Nothing to worry about, but I'm afraid I've been experiencing epic memory lapses. According to scientific research, these usually stem from various reasons including stress or presciption medications. I'm particularly disoriented and alarmed by this. How?

I scroll through my camera roll and can't clearly identify or recall numerous events that just happened last year. My mind genuinely goes blank, and I'm left unanswered. What am I doing in SPb? Why was I crowdfunding? Who is this lady I'm dining with?... I can fully grasp that our early-years memories are inaccessible to those of adulthood, but... can I at least revisit those moments of contentment that happened to me a little while ago?

When I share this, I'm usually asked: "How do you not forget the languages you speak then?" 🥲 Languages are stored in a different part of our brain. And we can start forgetting them too, which eventually interferes with our abillity to articulate our thoughts, but that's a different story.

Language Use 💗

• the resemblance: to share pain = to unbandage a raw wound
• to have a lot on the plate / to complete errands
• to contemplate (about sth)
• miserable / pathetic
• immensely grateful
• to appear as
• extraordinarily timid (about doing sth)
• lingering / persistent
• pain tolerance
• to shove feelings away
• to keep the pain locked in

Take care and I hope you don’t stuff that pain down. Find any other therapeutic alternative if sharing with someone feels intimidating 🫂🫶🏼
