The share of global innovator subsector exports increased from 12% of services exports in 2005 to 32% in 2017.

This increase was largely driven
by growth in finance and insurance exports, which accounted for 18% of Kenya’s services exports, and was only surpassed by transportation and storage exports (38%).

In comparison to its peers, only Ghana outperformed Kenya in share of services exports from global innovator subsectors in 2019 (Nayyar, Hallward-Driemeier, and Davies 2021).
