Faith is not built on circumstances but on God’s unchanging promises. When trials come, you can either focus on the hardship or trust in the certainty of God’s faithfulness. No suffering is wasted when your hope is in Him—every trial strengthens your faith and draws you deeper into His presence.

Consider how you are responding to difficulties in your life. Are you trusting in God’s promises, or are you letting circumstances dictate your faith? Choose to cling to His Word, and know that His plans for you are filled with hope and purpose.

"For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that is to be revealed to us."Romans 8:18

Blessed Lord's day!

Heidelberg Catechism Q 103: "What does God require in the fourth commandment?"

First, that the ministry of the gospel and the schools be maintained;[a] and that I, especially on the sabbath*, that is, on the day of rest, diligently frequent the church of God,[b] to hear his word,[c] to use the sacraments,[d] publicly to call upon the Lord,[e] and contribute to the relief of the poor.[f] Secondly, that all the days of my life I cease from my evil works, and yield myself to the Lord, to work by his Holy Spirit in me: and thus begin in this life the eternal sabbath.[g]

a: Titus 1:5, 2 Timothy 3:14, 2 Timothy 3:15, 1 Timothy 5:17, 1 Corinthians 9:11, 1 Corinthians 9:13, 1 Corinthians 9:14, 2 Timothy 2:2
b: Psalm 40:10, Psalm 40:11, Psalm 68:27, Acts 2:42, Acts 2:46
c: 1 Timothy 4:13, 1 Corinthians 14:19, 1 Corinthians 14:29, 1 Corinthians 14:31
d: 1 Corinthians 11:33
e: 1 Timothy 2:1, 1 Timothy 2:2, 1 Timothy 2:3, 1 Timothy 2:8, 1 Timothy 2:9, 1 Timothy 2:10, 1 Timothy 2:11, 1 Corinthians 14:16
f: 1 Corinthians 16:2
g: Isaiah 66:23

*This concerns an addition, which has been adopted from the translation by Peter Datheen. In the original text of the Catechism, only the 'day of rest' is mentioned.

Lord’s Day 9
26.Q. What do you believe when you say: “I believe in God the Father, almighty, maker of heaven and earth”?
A. That the eternal Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who out of nothing created heaven and earth and everything in them, who still upholds and rules them by His eternal counsel and providence, is my God and Father because of Christ His Son. I trust Him so much that I do not doubt He will provide whatever I need for body and soul, and He will turn to my good whatever adversity He sends me in this sad world. He is able to do this because He is almighty God; He desires to do this because He is a faithful Father.

God’s grace transforms lives. While none of us are perfect, His grace takes us from who we were and shapes us into who He calls us to be. Transformation isn’t instantaneous; it’s a journey of growth as you surrender to Him daily. Each step reveals His patience and love as He works in your life.

How has God’s grace changed you? Are you letting Him lead you into greater transformation, or are you holding on to old patterns? Trust His grace to continue the work He began, knowing that He is faithful to complete it.

"And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ." — Philippians 1:6

"Abraham himself before receiving circumcision had been declared righteous on the score of faith alone: before circumcision, the text says, 'Abraham believed God, and credit for it brought him to righteousness.' Why then, O Jew, do you place great store by circumcision? Learn that before it many people proved themselves good. Abel, for instance, made his offering from faith, as Paul also says: 'Through faith Abel made a greater offering to God than Cain'; Enoch was taken away, Noe escaped that dreadful flood on the score of great goodness, and Abraham before this was commended for his faith in God. Thus right from the very beginning the human race gained salvation on the. basis of faith. The reason, of course, that the loving Lord permitted sacrifices to be offered to him was that, when our nature was still in an imperfect condition, it might be able to express its gratitude and at the same time completely avoid the harmful practice of worshipping idols." - St. John Chrysostom (Hom. 27 on Genesis)

The modern church has watered down God's design for the family. We've abandoned clear Biblical principles for weak cultural compromises.

Key truths you need to understand:

• The Biblical family structure (represented by the umbrella) aligns perfectly with Scripture, regardless of its origins

• God's design for family hierarchy transcends human logic - just like many Biblical concepts

• Clear role definition between men and women isn't oppressive - it's essential for family flourishing

• Children are under Christ's authority and covenant, as demonstrated through baptism

• God created men to lead and women to help - this isn't cultural, it's Biblical

• Husbands are Christ-appointed protectors and providers for their families

Remember: Your family's strength depends on following God's design, not culture's lies.

Every Saturday part of a reformation confession or catechism is posted. This week we have Lord's day 5 from the Heidelberg catechism.

The Second Part : Of Man’s Deliverance
Lord’s Day 5
12.Q. According to God’s righteous judgment we deserve punishment both in this world and forever after: how then can we escape this punishment and return to God’s favour?
A. God requires that His justice be satisfied. Therefore the claims of His justice must be paid in full, either by ourselves, or by another.
Exodus 23:7; Isaiah 53:11; Romans 2:1-11; Romans 8:3,4.

13.Q. Can we pay this debt ourselves?
A. Certainly not. Actually, we increase our guilt every day.
Matthew 6:12; Romans 2:4,5.

14.Q. Can another creature - any at all - pay this debt for us?
A. No. To begin with, God will not punish another creature for man’s guilt. Besides, no mere creature can bear the weight of God’s eternal anger against sin and release others from it.
Psalm 49:7-9; Psalm 130:3; Ezekiel 18:4,20; Hebrews 2:14-18.

15.Q. What kind of mediator and deliverer should we look for then?
A. He must be truly human and truly righteous, yet more powerful than all creatures, that is, He must also be true God.
Isaiah 7:14; Isaiah 9:6; Isaiah 53:9; Jeremiah 23:6; John 1:1; Romans 1:3; 1 Corinthians 15:21; 2 Corinthians 5:21; Hebrews 2:17; Hebrews 7:26.

"Therefore, the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a Son, and shall call His name Immanuel." - Isaiah 7:14

This Christmas, let us celebrate the fulfillment of the ancient prophecy spoken through Isaiah, a promise that pointed unmistakably to the coming of Jesus Christ, the Savior of the world. The birth of Immanuel, "God with us," is not just a story but the cornerstone of our faith, affirming the reliability of God's Word and His divine plan for humanity.

As foretold in Isaiah 9:6, Jesus is the Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, and Prince of Peace. His arrival is a reminder that God keeps His promises, offering salvation and reconciliation to all who believe.

May this season be an opportunity to reflect on the profound truth of the Gospel that God, in His love, stepped into history to redeem us. Let the light of Christ shine brightly in your heart and give you confidence in the hope we proclaim.

Wishing you all a blessed Christmas filled with the joy of His presence and the peace that only He can give.

that he who rules the stars should suck the breast;

that a virgin should conceive;

that Christ should be made of a woman, and of that woman which himself made,

As we celebrate this special day, I would like to remind everyone that Christmas is not a pagan holiday.

Another thing, is that it is okay to celebrate, but to always direct the focus on holy things such as the Nativity. Presents, trees, and stockings look fun, however we must remember, as Christians, to always never lose focus on what Christmas truly means, as the secular modern world has now.

While it is not commanded in scriptures to celebrate it, if one celebrates it the right way, what negative effects are there to be had?

Martin Luther, the grand Reformer, is credited in putting lights on Christmas trees, because he saw the beauty of God's creation shine through a fir tree. It was his favorite holiday because he saw so many elements of the gospel shine through, and reminded him of the purity of Christ's humble birth.

Let us pray for our enemies and friends, share the news, for our savior was born!

Merry Christmas.

“one can find in the early and medieval church many accounts of justification that speak of justification as a process and particularly emphasize the role of works in the process. The pre-Reformation church did not speak with one voice about justification. Thus, both Roman Catholic and Protestant positions can find precedent in the pre-Reformation church. Here is how the eminent church historian Jaroslav Pelikan summarized it: Every major tenet of the Reformation had considerable support in the catholic tradition. That was eminently true of the central Reformation teaching of justification by faith alone. . . . The Council of Trent selected and elevated to official status the notion of justification by faith plus works, which was only one of the doctrines of justification in the medieval theologians and ancient fathers. When the reformers attacked this notion in the name of the doctrine of justification by faith alone—a doctrine also attested to by some medieval theologians and ancient fathers—Rome reacted by canonizing one trend in preference to all the others. What had previously been permitted also (justification by faith alone), now became forbidden. In condemning the Protestant Reformation, the Council of Trent condemned part of its own catholic tradition. 23”

3.Q. How do you come to know your misery?
A. The law of God tells me.
Romans 3:20; Romans 7:7-25.

4.Q. What does God’s law require of us?
A. Christ teaches us this in summary in Matthew 22:37-40 - “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind, and with all your strength. This is the great and first commandment. And a second is like it, you shall love your neighbour as yourself. On these two commandments depend all the law and the prophets.”
Leviticus 19:18; Deuteronomy 6:5.

5.Q. Can you live up to all this perfectly?
A. No. I have a natural tendency to hate God and my neighbour.
Genesis 6:5; Jeremiah 17:9; Romans 3:9-20,23; Romans 7:23,24; Romans 8:7; Ephesians 2:1-3; Titus 3:3; 1 John 1:8,10.

Think about how public announcement worked back before mass media. When a king made an edict, he would send out a herald to publicly announce the new law or decree. The herald would literally shout out the new edict in the street to inform the public. The herald didn’t have to be persuasive or winsome or good-looking or a charismatic leader; he just had to be loud and clear. The announcement was binding, not because of the herald’s personal qualities, but because it came from the king.

Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.

Job 19:25-27

For I know that my Redeemer lives, and at the last he will stand upon the earth. And after my skin has been thus destroyed, yet in my flesh I shall see God, whom I shall see for myself, and my eyes shall behold, and not another. My heart faints within me!

“[B]y transgressing [the Father’s] commandment we became His enemies. And therefore in the last times the Lord has restored us into friendship through His incarnation, having become ‘the Mediator between God and men;’ propitiating indeed for us the Father against whom we had sinned, and cancelling our disobedience by His own obedience;” - St. Irenaeus, Against Heresies (5.17.1)

Christians need to realise how bad the current situation is. A Republican candidate has won the Presidency after:
a) calling heartbeat ban's "terrible"
b) promising to veto a federal ban
c) supporting the abortion pill and IVF
d) his wife coming out (unopposed) a month before election day supporting abortion with "no compromise"

We can be glad Harris lost while still realizing the lost ground.

When life’s trials press in, it’s easy to wonder, “Why is this happening to me?” But God uses your trials to shape you and bring you closer to Him. Without these trials, you wouldn’t fully grasp the depth of God’s Word. It’s through struggle that you come to know the strength and comfort of His promises.

Remember, real gold fears no fire. Whether you are facing sleepless nights, bitter inlaws, woke bosses or a financial strain, remember that God is leading you more into the likeness of His son. Don’t try and escape it, rather walk with God through it.

"Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness." — James 1:2-3

While we're going to be talking about some seriously silly nonsense coming out of Protestant circles, do not be mistaken. Nothing I'm going to point out takes away the fact that you should be Protestant. In fact, it reinforces it.

The Ausburg Confession, Article IV (Of Justification):

Also they teach that men cannot be justified before God by their own strength, merits, or works, but are freely justified for Christ’s sake, through faith, when they believe that they are received into favor, and that their sins are forgiven for Christ’s sake, who, by His death, has made satisfaction for our sins. This faith God imputes for righteousness in His sight. Rom. 3 and 4.

A blessed Reformation Sunday, a good day to meditate on the words of Romans 3. You are justified apart from works in Christ alone.

Despite possessing all power, wealth, and lies, God defeated the papacy’s lies that man is justified by deeds of the law, all by His Word.

Psalm 95:1-11

O come, let us sing unto the LORD: Let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation. Let us come before his presence with thanksgiving, And make a joyful noise unto him with psalms.

For the LORD is a great God, And a great King above all gods. In his hand are the deep places of the earth: The strength of the hills is his also. The sea is his, and he made it: And his hands formed the dry land.

O come, let us worship and bow down: Let us kneel before the LORD our maker. For he is our God; And we are the people of his pasture, and the sheep of his hand.

To day if ye will hear his voice, Harden not your heart, As in the provocation, and as in the day of temptation in the wilderness: When your fathers tempted me, Proved me, and saw my work. Forty years long was I grieved with this generation, And said, It is a people that do err in their heart, and they have not known my ways: Unto whom I sware in my wrath That they should not enter into my rest.”

Lift up the boy, and hold him fast with your hand, for I will make him into a great nation.” Then God opened her eyes, and she saw a well of water. And she went and filled the skin with water and gave the boy a drink. And God was with the boy, and he grew up. He lived in the wilderness and became an expert with the bow.
