Watching flames is relaxing and puts people into a sort of hypnotic trance.

Staring at fires lowers blood pressure, promoting relaxation.

The warmth and the sound are soothing and calming, but according to science, the effect goes well beyond physical sensations.

When we’re sitting fireside, all of our senses become absorbed in the experience. Having a calming focus of attention could help to reduce anxiety

A study of the effects of fire sounds on people found that the crackling noises reduce blood pressure.
In other words, it really does induce relaxation. 😌

Early civilisations would hold social gatherings around the fire after dark. Many thousands of years later, the sounds of a crackling fire seem to somehow spark an almost primitive response.

Every night is a perfect night
when you are hanging out
with a beautiful, warm fire. 🔥

There's a race of men that don't fit in,
A race that can't stay still;
So they break the hearts of kith and kin,
And they roam the world at will.
They range the field and they rove the flood,
And they climb the mountain's crest;
Theirs is the curse of the gypsy blood,
And they don't know how to rest.

If they just went straight they might go far;
They are strong and brave and true;
But they're always tired of the things that are,
And they want the strange and new.
They say: "Could I find my proper groove,
What a deep mark I would make!"
So they chop and change, and each fresh move
Is only a fresh mistake.

And each forgets, as he strips and runs
With a brilliant, fitful pace,
It's the steady, quiet, plodding ones
Who win in the lifelong race.
And each forgets that his youth has fled,
Forgets that his prime is past,
Till he stands one day, with a hope that's dead,
In the glare of the truth at last.

He has failed, he has failed; he has missed his chance;
He has just done things by half.
Life's been a jolly good joke on him,
And now is the time to laugh.
Ha, ha! He is one of the Legion Lost;
He was never meant to win;
He's a rolling stone, and it's bred in the bone;
He's a man who won't fit in.

There is a pleasure
in the pathless woods,

There is a rapture
on the lonely shore,

There is society,
where none intrudes,

By the deep sea,
and music in its roar:

I love not man the less,
but Nature more.

No shelter. No food. No fire.

Except in the most extreme cases, these won’t kill you … at least, not quickly.

But none of these compares to the lack of water, which carries a whole different level of significance.

You can live for more than three weeks without food, but you likely won’t make it much past three days without water.

Granted, some people have survived as long as 10 days without water, but after the third day, the ability to function is radically reduced. 🫡

Our bodies need two to three liters of water each day. Throw in heat, cold, stress, exertion or diarrhea, and you need much more.

You need to know how to find water and prevent your body from losing water.

Drink, Drink, Drink 💦🚰
