Scam Alert: Prop Funding Firms

I often get calls asking if certain companies are scams, and a persistent theme is around "Prop Funding Firms" that claim to fund trading accounts. These firms promise to fund your trading with a large sum, often $100k or more, for a fee. Their setup goes like this: you pay a fee to join (usually around $400+) and receive a demo trading account. The account comes with strict rules like limited drawdown and no overnight positions.

For many new traders, this seems like an attractive offer because the fee feels small in exchange for a $100k trading account. But here’s the catch—after navigating nearly impossible trading restrictions, if you succeed, you’re given a “real” account. The scam reveals itself when you make a profit; many traders report never receiving their payout.

On the surface, these sites appear legitimate, with glowing paid reviews and testimonials that make it seem like everyone’s profiting. But in reality, almost no one gets paid for profits. The whole model is built around making money from your fees—plain and simple. Think about it: why would anyone fund you to trade and make money without their own vested interest?

I’ve spent a long time educating traders to avoid these traps. Understand the business model here: their earnings are from your entry fees. One recent example is the5%ers, where a member recently fell into their trap and didn’t receive their payout.
