In Bangladesh, Hindu student Arnab Kumar Sarkar was brutally hacked and shot dead in public. Another Hindu, Animesh Sarkar, was killed and left hanging. Vandalism of temples has become a daily occurrence. Can we still pretend that Hindus in Bangladesh are safe? The world’s silence is deafening.

Despite the often misunderstood portrayal of Yakshas, they hold a revered place in Hindu belief as guardian deities. Among the traditions honoring them is the ancient ritual of Khyachi Mavas, also called Khichdi Amavasya or Yaksha Amavasya, celebrated by Kashmiri Pandits. Though the Kashmiri Pandits faced displacement during the 1990 exodus, their timeless traditions persist. Observed on the last day of the dark fortnight in Paush, this ritual pays homage to the Yakshas, believed to descend from the hills of Kashmir to its valleys. To honor their arrival, offerings of Moong-dal khichdi served with fish or lamb are prepared, and a plate of food is placed at the highest point in the house as a gesture of welcome to these divine guardians.

Through centuries of relentless violence, the destruction of sacred spaces, and the systematic silencing of ancient wisdom, Pagan Europe was dismantled. From the ashes of its vibrant cultural and spiritual heritage, Christian Europe arose, built upon foundations soaked in blood and intolerance. This transformation, spanning over three brutal centuries, eradicated traditions that had thrived for millennia.

Just as the vigraha or yantra serves as a sacred link to the eternal presence of a deity, so too is the human guru a living embodiment of the Guru Tattva—the transcendent principle of wholeness woven through all creation. A true guru, who radiates the unmistakable signs (lakshanas) of a genuine teacher as prescribed by the shāstras, descends from an unbroken lineage of masters. With the wisdom of a paramguru, paraparamguru, and parameshthi guru behind them, such a guru stands as one with the mantra and the deity, completing a divine triad.

Yet, in this era, where traditional bonds weaken and genuine gurus are as rare as sincere disciples, the essence of the Guru-Shishya Parampara shines ever more precious—awaiting those who seek it with an open and reverent heart.

*Failed logic behind Delhi firecracker ban*

Three toddlers approached the Supreme Court of India seeking a ban on firecrackers in Delhi back in 2015, citing their fundamental right to be brought up in a pollution-free environment. They won the case. Nine years down the line, as a blanket ban prevails, Delhi's air quality continues to be hazardous, compelling us to take a look back at the whole logic behind the case against firecrackers.
