In this review of Professor Sreeram Chaulia’s new book ‘Friends’ for Hindustan Times, Ambassador Lakshmi Puri goes deep into bilateralism, multilateralism and the very essence of interests and values that determine friendships in #ForeignPolicy. She also warns of the “inbuilt risks of some of these partnerships”, and makes a strong case for #India to build “safeguards against slide-backs” through diversification of strategic partnerships. This is an ideationally enriching essay by one of the legends of India’s #diplomacy. Do read it in full and share your views!

Here is a thought-provoking review essay by Suhasini Haidar in The Hindu about three books authored by Sreeram Chaulia, T.V. Paul and Dhruva Jaishankar, with grand strategy in #ForeignPolicy as the binding theme.

Suhasini’s view that Sreeram Chaulia’s ‘Friends’ brings “clarity of thought” to the subject is accurate. Her point about ‘Friends’ not including any neighbouring country of #India is worth reflecting on because the Indian Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has not signed formal strategic partnerships with countries next door in #SouthAsia. Also, Chaulia’s definition of a consequential strategic partner is a country that helps stretch India’s #geopolitical ambit into distant parts of the world. Please read on and join the debate!

What are the political and legal factors which enabled anti-India Khalistan terrorists, extremists and criminals elements to make Canada their main international base?

How did the Khalistanis, a small minority within the Sikh minority community in Canada, exploit multiculturalism, racism and free speech to become influential and operationally strong there?

For answers, watch Episode 105 of Professor Sreeram Chaulia’s Indian Diplomacy TV show on Doordarshan, featuring analysis by the senior Canadian journalist and author Terry Milewski.
