Phos-Chek: Pink Fire Retardant sprayed to put-out California Forest Fires

🧯Fire retardant is a mix of chemicals used to extinguish or slow down the spread of fires.

🧯Phos-Chek brand is mostly used and it contains an ammonium phosphate-based slurry ( salts like ammonium polyphosphate) which does not evaporate easily like water and stays for longer.

🧯 The retardant is sprayed ahead of the fire in a bid to coat vegetation and prevent oxygen from allowing it to burn.

🧯Colour is usually added to the fire retardant to ensure that firefighters can see it against the landscape.

🧯Environmental Concerns:
Spraying fire retardant using planes is ineffective, expensive and a growing source of pollution for rivers and streams and kill aquatic life

🧯 It is laden with toxic metals, which include chromium and cadmium which can cause cancer, and kidney and liver diseases in humans

🧯The effectiveness of Phos-Chek remains unclear & depends on the slope, fuel type, terrain and weather.

SpaDeX: Space Docking Experiment

🛰 SpaDeX Mission is a technology demonstrator mission for the in-space docking using two small spacecraft launched by PSLV.

🛰 This technology is essential for India’s space ambitions such as Indian on Moon, sample return from the Moon, the building and operation of Bharatiya Antariksh Station (BAS), etc.

🛰 Through this mission, India is marching towards becoming the fourth country in the world to have space docking technology.

Objectives:

🛰 To develop and demonstrate the technology needed for rendezvous, docking, and undocking of two small spacecraft (SDX01, which is the Chaser, and SDX02, the Target,) in a low-Earth circular orbit.

🛰 Demonstration of the transfer of electric power between the docked spacecraft,

🛰 Space docking is the intricate process of maneuvering two fast-moving spacecraft into the same orbit, bringing them closer, and joining them to form a single unit.

🛰 This capability is pivotal for assembling large structures or transferring equipment, crew, or supplies in space.

🛰 For instance, the International Space Station (ISS) was built using this technique, with various modules launched separately and docked in space.

56th Tiger Reserve - Guru Ghasidas (Chhattisgarh) of the country notified in Chhattisgarh

🔹The Government of Chhattisgarh, on advice of the National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA), notified the Guru Ghasidas - Tamor Pingla Tiger Reserve across Manendragarh-Chirmiri-Bharatpur, Korea, Surajpur and Balrampur districts of Chhattisgarh.

🔹The National Tiger Conservation Authority had accorded final approval for notifying the Guru Ghasidas- Tamor Pingla Tiger Reserve in October, 2021.

Geography:

🔹The tiger reserve, encompassing a total area of 2829.38 sq.kms, includes a core/critical tiger habitat of 2049.2 sq.kms, comprising the Guru Ghasidas National Park and Tamor Pingla Wildlife Sanctuary, and has a buffer of 780.15 sq.kms.

Ecology:

🔹Nestled in the Chota Nagpur plateau and partly in Baghelkhand plateau, the tiger reserve is blessed with varied terrains, dense forests, streams and rivers favourable for harbouring a rich faunal diversity and contains critical habitats for the tiger.

🔹A total of 753 species, including 365 invertebrates and 388 vertebrates, have been documented from Guru Ghasidas-Tamor Pingla Tiger Reserve by the Zoological Survey of India.

🔹The invertebrate fauna is represented mostly by the class insecta.

🔹The vertebrate fauna includes 230 species of birds and 55 species of mammals comprising several threatened species from both the groups.

Important Takeaways:

🔹It is the third largest tiger reserve in the country after Nagarjunasagar-Srisailam Tiger Reserve in Andhra Pradesh and Manas Tiger Reserve in Assam.

🔹The Guru Ghasidas-Tamor Pingla Tiger Reserve becomes the 56th Tiger Reserve to be notified in the country.

🔹With this notification, Chhattisgarh is now home to 4 Tiger Reserves, which is bound to strengthen conservation of the species with ongoing technical and financial assistance from the National Tiger Conservation Authority under Project Tiger.

Birsa Munda: The Architect of Tribal Resilience.

🏹 Birsa Munda was a prominent freedom fighter and a tribal leader who dedicated his life to fight for the rights of indigenous communities.

🏹 He was born in 1875 in Chotanagpur region and belonged to the Munda tribe.

🏹 He closely witnessed the exploitation of his people by the colonial agrarian policies such as Permanent settlement which replaced the traditional agrarian system of Mundas known as Khuntkatti agrarian system.

🏹 Forced labour in plantations and exploitation by money lenders (dikus) led to tribal movement

🏹The Munda rebellion (Ulgulan) led by Birsa Munda was started in the late 19th century.

🏹British by force suppressed the movement and captured Birsa Munda. He died in captivity in 1900 under mysterious circumstances.

🏹 His birthday is recognised as Tribal Pride Day (Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas)

🔆Black Hole

✅It is a region in space with such strong gravity that nothing, not even light, can escape from it. According to Einstein’s theory of general relativity, a black hole is created when a large mass becomes very compact, bending spacetime. The boundary of no return is called the event horizon.
✅Types: There are four main types of black holes:
🔸Stellar Black Holes: Formed by collapsing stars.
🔸Intermediate Black Holes: Larger than stellar but smaller than supermassive.
🔸Supermassive Black Holes (SMBH): The largest type, found at the centers of galaxies, like Sagittarius A* in our galaxy.
✅Micro Black Holes: Very small, hypothetical black holes, proposed by Stephen Hawking in 1971.
✅Black holes form when a massive star runs out of fuel. Stars shine because of nuclear fusion, which pushes outward against gravity. But when a star exhausts its fuel, this outward pressure stops, and gravity takes over, causing the star to collapse.
