Yesterday, at Dvin Music Hall, Newmag and the Tovmasyan Foundation announced Winter Fest 2025 with a powerful celebration of literature, poetry, and art.

As part of the festival, two books by authors from Artsakh were presented: Hermine Avagyan’s Farewell Eyes and Tsovinar Barkhudaryan’s The Last Red Lipstick. These works share moving, painful, yet inspiring stories of Artsakh women and the hardships they have endured.

Tsovinar’s book recounts her own experiences along with those of 12 other Artsakh women—real-life stories filled with sorrow and loss, yet marked by an unbreakable will to live. Hermine Avagyan’s book, which won last year’s literary competition organized by Newmag and the Tovmasyan Foundation, explores themes of war, displacement, and the painful silence left in the wake of losing one’s home and loved ones.

Winter Fest 2025 became an emotional and inspiring evening, where books, poetry, and music came together to tell stories of pain, resilience, and triumph.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio visited the Church of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem, one of Christianity’s most sacred sites. He was welcomed by clergy, including representatives of the Armenian Apostolic Patriarchate of Jerusalem, Chancellor Rev. Fr. Aghan Gogchyan, and former Superior of the Church, Rev. Fr. Samuel Aghoyan.

The Armenian presence in Jerusalem dates back over 1,500 years, making it one of the oldest Christian communities in the Holy Land. The Armenian Apostolic Church plays a vital role in the stewardship of the Holy Sepulchre alongside the Greek Orthodox and Roman Catholic churches. The Armenian Quarter in the Old City stands as a testament to this enduring legacy.

The Church of the Holy Sepulchre, Christianity’s holiest site, marks the location of Christ’s Crucifixion, Burial, and Resurrection.

The second President of Armenia, Robert Kocharyan, addressed the process of handing over Artsakh during a press conference, dividing it into two phases. He stated that the first phase took place between 2018 and 2020, while the second lasted from 2020 until September 2023.

Kocharyan criticized Pashinyan's rejection of the acceptable proposal in 2019 and the deadlock in the negotiation process. He also stated that the phrase “Artsakh is Armenia, and that’s it” was a call for war.

He emphasized that the first mistake was arrogance, the lack of proper calculations, and adventurism, while the second was Armenia’s recognition of Artsakh as part of Azerbaijan in Prague.

Today, the Armenian Apostolic Church celebrates the feast of Saint Sargis, the beloved holiday of youth and lovers.

Saint Sargis is considered the patron and intercessor of young couples and lovers.
In Armenia, Saint Sargis day is celebrated with church rites and prayers and folk traditions. On the night before the feast of Saint Sargis, those who are single eat a salty biscuit before sleeping. In their dreams the person who brings them a cup of water will be their future spouse.

According to tradition was Sargis was a Greek commander known for his military skills and piety. When Julian the Apostate begins persecuting Christians, Christ appears to Sargis, advising him to leave Greece and go to Armenia. There, he is warmly received by King Tiran, who advises him to go to Persia to escape Julian's persecution.

In Persia, Sargis becomes a commander in the Persian-Roman borders, defeating Julian's troops and converting many soldiers to Christianity. However, he faces challenges when idolaters accuse him of rebelling against the gods. Sargis rejects idol worship and is imprisoned. Despite this, he remains steadfast in his faith, receiving comfort from Christ and the angels. He is eventually beheaded with 14 Christian soldiers.

Sargis's body is later taken to Armenia with the help of Mesrop Mashtots and preserved in the town of Karb in the Van province.

Armenian architects played a central role in shaping the skyline of the Ottoman Empire, blending Eastern and Western influences to create some of its most iconic landmarks. The Balian family, among the most prominent, served as Chief State Architects, designing palaces, mosques, and public buildings that defined 18th and 19th-century Constantinople.

Beyond the Balians, Armenian Amiras—wealthy aristocrats—were deeply involved in the empire’s economy, administration, and cultural life, leaving a lasting architectural and artistic legacy. This video explores the contributions of Armenian architects who helped build the Ottoman capital.

The Catholicosate of the Great House of Cilicia in Antelias celebrated the Feast of Trndez on February 13, 2025, under the presidency of His Holiness Aram I. The ceremony took place at St. Gregory the Illuminator Cathedral, where His Holiness delivered a message highlighting the significance of Christ’s presentation at the temple and the deep connection between faith and tradition in Armenian life. He emphasized the essential role of the Armenian family—especially mothers—the Church, and Armenian schools in preserving Christian and national values for future generations.

Following the service, the traditional Trndez bonfire was lit in the courtyard with a candle brought from the Holy Altar, symbolizing the light of Christ. The faithful, including clergy and seminarians, gathered around the fire, singing spiritual and national hymns in a celebration of faith and heritage.

Former Artsakh Security Council Secretary and Artskah Hero, Arshavir Gharamyan, responded to National Assembly Speaker Alen Simonyan’s recent remarks, in which Simonyan suggested that Artsakh residents should have stayed and fought instead of leaving. Gharamyan addressed the statement by posting a photo on his Facebook page, along with a pointed message.

“In the second half of September 2022, a group of ‘non-fighting’ Artsakh Armenians in a well-known resort town…”

It is worth recalling that in September 2022, following Azerbaijan’s aggression against Armenia, the enemy occupied significant portions of Armenia’s sovereign territory, including areas near Jermuk.

The Artsakh Defense Army stood alongside the Armenian Armed Forces and volunteers, ensuring they were not left to fight alone and preventing the enemy from fully capturing Jermuk.

A few days ago, during a session in the National Assembly, Alen Simonyan addressed an Artsakh journalist, stating:

“Safety will come when we sign a peace treaty. You left because it wasn’t safe, even though you could have stayed and fought to the end with the weapons left by Armenia. You should have fought—Armenia fought. You brought in a favorable government, which, days later, signed the document on the state’s dissolution.”

On February 13, Armenians around the world marked Tyarnndarach, also known as Trndez, with traditional fire-jumping ceremonies.

Observed 40 days after the birth of Jesus, the feast symbolizes purification and renewal in both the Armenian Apostolic and Armenian Catholic Churches. The name Tyarnndarach translates to “coming to meet the Lord” and refers to an episode from the Gospel of Luke.

The celebration of Trndez continues to be observed much as it was in the past, with one of its most significant traditions being the lighting of a festive bonfire in church courtyards. On the evening of February 13, following the church service, priests bring out candles lit from the altar and, with the help of newlyweds, ignite the bonfire.

These images were taken at Saint Gregory the Illuminator Cathedral in Yerevan, where the tradition was observed with great reverence and enthusiasm.

President of Artsakh, Samvel Shahramanyan, has signed a decree extending the powers of the Artsakh National Assembly, citing a constitutional provision that prohibits elections during a state of emergency. The parliamentary elections, initially scheduled for May 2025, have been indefinitely canceled by the same decree.

Without this extension, new elections would have had to be held, or the National Assembly dissolved—a move that aligns with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev’s demands.

Acting Speaker of the Artsakh Parliament, Gagik Baghunts, confirmed the cancellation and noted that changes to party lists remain possible. He also emphasized plans to increase parliamentary activity, highlighting the importance of civil society initiatives in the ongoing political process.

The Birth of the Artsakh Movement

February 13 marks the 37th anniversary of the Artsakh Movement.

By 1987, nearly all structures of the Nagorno-Karabakh Autonomous Oblast (NKAO) had recognized the need for reunification with Armenia, initiating a signature collection campaign.

On February 11, 1988, during a regional committee bureau meeting in Stepanakert, a decision was made to convene gatherings on February 12 to condemn the petitioning efforts.

That same day, a rally took place in Askeran, where demonstrators marched through the streets holding posters and chanting “Miatsum” (Unification).

On February 13, hundreds of Askeran residents marched to Stepanakert, where a mass rally was held, demanding reunification with Armenia.

This first large-scale demonstration in Stepanakert marked the beginning of the Artsakh Movement.

Tulsi Gabbard has been confirmed as the U.S. Director of National Intelligence following a final Senate vote on Wednesday. Her confirmation came after a concerted push by Trump allies, including Elon Musk, which ultimately secured Republican support. The Senate voted 52-48, mostly along party lines, to confirm her to the position.

Beyond domestic politics, Gabbard has been a steadfast advocate for Armenian issues. As a U.S. Representative, she co-sponsored the Armenian Genocide Resolution and traveled to Artsakh in 2017, where she witnessed firsthand the resilience of its people in the face of Azerbaijani aggression. In 2020, she condemned Turkey’s role in the war against Artsakh, stating that “Turkey [was] sending Al-Qaeda-associated proxies to wipe out Nagorno-Karabakh’s Armenian population.”

Following her confirmation, the Armenian National Committee of America (ANCA) congratulated Gabbard and urged her to launch a comprehensive investigation into U.S. intelligence, policy, and foreign aid failures that contributed to Azerbaijan’s ethnic cleansing of Artsakh’s indigenous Armenian population. ANCA Executive Director Aram Hamparian called on Gabbard to ensure the U.S. fully reckons with its role—whether through acts of omission or commission—in aiding, abetting, and emboldening Azerbaijan’s genocidal campaign. In a letter to Gabbard, ANCA also emphasized the need for an intelligence review into how U.S. military assistance to Azerbaijan facilitated war crimes.

The Coordination Council of Armenian Organizations of France (CCAF) has formally referred Azerbaijan’s actions in Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) to the International Criminal Court (ICC). The complaint, submitted by attorney Sévag Torossian, urges the ICC Prosecutor to investigate Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and other officials for alleged genocide, war crimes, and crimes against humanity committed between 2020 and 2023.

The CCAF highlights the forced displacement of 120,000 Armenians and the destruction of their cultural heritage as a result of Azerbaijan’s military aggression. Citing previous statements from NGOs and former ICC Prosecutor Luis Moreno Ocampo, the organization argues that legal action is necessary to hold Azerbaijan accountable.

CCAF Co-Presidents Ara Toranian and Mourad Papazian have also called on the French government to push for an official ICC investigation. The complaint requests that the ICC Prosecutor:
• Open an investigation into crimes committed against Artsakh Armenians.
•Determine the ICC’s jurisdiction over Nagorno-Karabakh.
• Issue an international arrest warrant for President Aliyev and others responsible for the alleged crimes.

The CCAF warns that failure to act would mark a second denial of justice for Armenians since 1915 and stresses the ICC’s role in preventing impunity for crimes of this scale.

It is regrettable to hear such irresponsible statements about Artsakh and the people of Artsakh from an official holding the highly responsible position of the Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia. Such short-sighted and ambitious remarks not only fail to contribute to solving the existing issues in national life and ensuring the national unity that we so desperately need, but, on the contrary, they further deepen the artificially implanted lines of division within our people. This was stated in a declaration by the Artsakh Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Church.

“Moreover, for people with spiritual vision and understanding, the true reasons behind such behavior are clearly visible. The greatest sin of the first humans in Paradise was not the eating of the forbidden fruit, but shifting the blame onto others and refusing to repent when questioned by God. This phenomenon has been present throughout human history, and overcoming it is only possible through the path of Christianity, which teaches us first and foremost to see our own sins and take responsibility for our actions.

After the 44-day Artsakh War, the 9-month blockade of Artsakh, and the forced displacement in 2023, a destructive tendency to shift blame and responsibility away from oneself has unfortunately taken root among a significant part of our people. This has been fueled by numerous short-sighted and divisive statements made at the highest levels, and the latest statement by the Speaker of the National Assembly is merely a continuation of this approach.

We do not find it necessary to once again elaborate on the heroic resistance shown by our people, who endured the hardships of the 9-month blockade on September 19, 2023, because, according to the Holy Scriptures: ‘Whoever has eyes to see will see,’ and those who refuse to see reality will never see it. But the greatest pain is that those who know the truth best, who officially refused to help Artsakh in 2023, do not hesitate to distort reality once again, continuously pouring salt on the unhealed wounds of Artsakh Armenians who have lost their homeland, while also disregarding the sacrifice of the hundreds of our fallen sons in 2023.

We pray that God grants wisdom to our people so that nothing and no one becomes a cause of artificial tension and intolerance towards one another. The stronger love, forgiveness, and unity grow in our homeland, the sooner all our cherished hopes and dreams will come true—something we are certain is the desire of every Armenian,” the statement concludes.

The National Assembly passed the draft law on Armenia’s accession to the EU.

With 63 votes in favor, 7 against, and 0 abstentions, the National Assembly (NA) passed the draft law on Armenia’s accession to the European Union (EU). The Civil Contract faction voted in favor of the bill.

It should be noted that discussions on adopting the bill to initiate the EU accession process began in the NA yesterday.

As a reminder, on January 9, the Armenian government approved this draft law.

The adoption of the bill does not mean immediate EU membership, as this issue would require a referendum. Following its approval, discussions with the European Union will be needed to develop a roadmap for the accession process.

Meanwhile, Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan clarified that the draft law itself is a public initiative that has gathered the necessary number of signatures.

Azatutyun, also known as Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty (RFE/RL) in Armenia, is one of the most popular news channels in the country, particularly on YouTube. Fully funded by the U.S. Congress, it dominates the media landscape with vast resources, shaping public discourse in Armenia. While its coverage is extensive, its bias is evident—especially in its support for Nikol Pashinyan’s government.

Azatutyun played a crucial role in the 2018 protests that led to Pashinyan’s rise, providing round-the-clock coverage that far exceeded that of local outlets. This selective reporting aligned with foreign interests, particularly those of the U.S., which has historically influenced political outcomes in Armenia.

Beyond its political stance, Azatutyun has been criticized for undermining Armenia’s national identity. It has referred to Armenians in Artsakh as "occupiers" and has placed "Armenian Genocide" in quotes, casting doubt on established historical truths. These editorial choices contribute to a broader effort to reshape Armenian narratives in ways that serve external agendas.

As Armenia faces existential threats after the loss of Artsakh, Azatutyun’s reporting continues to spark concerns. Instead of addressing the country’s immediate challenges, it often revisits past negotiations, diverting attention from pressing issues. This pattern raises questions about its role in shaping Armenia’s future at a time when national unity is critical.

Azatutyun is more than just a media outlet—it is a key player in Armenia’s information war. With its selective coverage and foreign backing, it influences political outcomes and public perception in ways that do not always align with Armenia’s sovereignty and interests.

New photos circulating online reveal that the Azerbaijani side has damaged the altar of Tsitsernavank, a historic Armenian church.

According to monumentwatch.org, images show that the holy table and cross pedestal inside the altar have been broken. This follows a previous act of desecration in 2023, when the church’s excavation site was also damaged.

Since December 2020, when the Kashatagh region of Artsakh surrendered to Azerbaijani control, Tsitsernavank has become a target of Azerbaijani propaganda, particularly by the so-called Aghvan-Udi community. Despite this, reports indicate that the church continues to suffer repeated acts of vandalism and destruction.

The damage threatens the integrity of the historic structure. The UNESCO 36th expert meeting emphasized that heritage integrity is defined by its ability to preserve its historical and cultural significance over time. According to international preservation guidelines, any changes that alter a heritage site’s defining characteristics pose a serious threat to its authenticity and preservation.

This latest act of destruction raises further concerns about cultural heritage protection in regions under Azerbaijani occupation.

In his letter, dated February 6, 2025, Aram I congratulated Trump on his inauguration and acknowledged his commitment to global peace. He referenced Trump’s previous statements condemning Azerbaijan’s ethnic cleansing of Artsakh’s Armenian population and his support for the return of indigenous Armenians to their homeland.

The Catholicos specifically called for Trump’s intervention in securing the immediate and unconditional release of Armenian prisoners, including former leaders of Artsakh, who have been subjected to closed-door trials in Baku without due process or international oversight. He emphasized that such a move would contribute to regional stability, foster goodwill, and align with Trump’s stated peace-making mission.

Aram I concluded by expressing hope for continued dialogue on these urgent humanitarian issues.

Former Commander of the Artsakh Defense Army, Jalal Harutyunyan, Sentenced to 5.5 Years

On January 15, the Syunik Regional Court found Jalal Harutyunyan guilty of military negligence and, today, sentenced him to 5.5 years of imprisonment. The charges stem from the losses sustained during the enemy attack on the D-20 division of the "Tsor" military unit on October 12, 2020, in Artsakh.

Harutyunyan was convicted under the charge of "military official negligence committed during war or combat situations, which, through carelessness, resulted in the death of a person."

It has been revealed that the translator in Ruben Vardanyan’s trial has been incorrectly translating hundreds of case files. As a result, an objection was raised by Ruben's team.

On Thursday, the Baku Military Court of Azerbaijan continued the trial against Ruben Vardanyan and other former Artsakh officials. His case is being handled separately and will continue on February 10, while the hearings for other Artsakh officials resume today. According to Azerbaijani media, excerpts from the indictments were presented, and former Artsakh President Arayik Harutyunyan and Foreign Minister David Babayan were allowed to speak.

In an interview with NEWS.am, lawyer Siranush Sahakyan, who represents Armenian prisoners of war at the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR), shared details about Ruben Vardanyan’s trial. The information came from his local lawyer, Avraam Berman, who passed it on to Vardanyan’s family.

"We have received some details about Ruben Vardanyan’s trial through his lawyer Avraam Berman. During the hearing, the defense attorney raised two objections, one of them about the translator. It turned out that the case file consists of 422 case files in Azerbaijani, and the translator failed to provide even a proper oral translation. Since written translations and even notes are not allowed, the oral translation was critical—but the translator made serious mistakes. In some sections, the case even referenced Belarusian law instead of Azerbaijani law," Sahakyan explained.

She added that the court ordered Ruben Vardanyan and his lawyer to arrange for a proper translation themselves—a demand made only during the third hearing, when the trial was already well underway.

Additionally, all requests from the defense to obtain copies of the case files and review video evidence were denied. "Naturally, Azerbaijani media have not reported on these violations," Sahakyan noted.

As for the statements made by Arayik Harutyunyan and David Babayan, Sahakyan emphasized that they were clearly made under pressure. "These testimonies do not sound credible for any international specialist," she said.

From the excerpts of the indictment that have been made public, it is clear that the real goal of this trial is to deny Artsakh’s right to self-determination and erase any legal basis for it. "They [Azerbaijan] are trying to present all of this as a ‘criminal operation to seize territories,’" Sahakyan added.

Iran is the only country in the region supporting Armenia’s opposition to the so-called ‘Zangezur Corridor’, Iranian Ambassador to Armenia Mehdi Sobhani stated during a press conference.

“Among the countries in the region, only Iran stands by Armenia on this issue,” Sobhani emphasized, reaffirming Iran’s stance against any corridor-based transit arrangement.

In addition, the ambassador revealed that Iran has proposed an alternative route for Azerbaijan’s cargo transportation to Nakhijevan, which is 50 kilometers shorter. This statement was in response to Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan’s claim that Armenia is offering Azerbaijan the same conditions Iran had previously proposed for a route to Nakhijevan.

“The route passing through Iran’s territory is under Iran’s sovereignty, and customs regulations are enforced according to Iranian law,” Sobhani stated.

Regarding regional transport unblocking efforts, the ambassador clarified that Iran supports such initiatives as long as they respect national sovereignty and territorial integrity. However, he firmly rejected any proposal involving a corridor, stating, “We are against any route that includes a corridor.”

Nikol Pashinyan stated on Tuesday that he is open to withdrawing Armenia’s international legal complaints against Azerbaijan as part of ongoing peace talks. Speaking at the Atlantic Council during his trip to Washington, he confirmed that he and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev have agreed on 15 of 17 articles in a potential peace agreement, with the remaining disputes involving Armenia’s legal claims and the European monitoring mission in the region.

Pashinyan’s willingness to abandon legal cases contradicts previous commitments to holding Azerbaijan accountable for war crimes, particularly those committed during and after the 2020 war. Armenia’s cases at the International Court of Justice and the European Court of Human Rights address key issues, including the unlawful detention and abuse of Armenian prisoners of war and civilian hostages, the destruction of Armenian cultural heritage, and Azerbaijan’s ethnic cleansing of Artsakh’s Armenian population.

Far from fostering peace, withdrawing these cases would embolden Azerbaijan by granting it impunity and erasing hard-won legal victories. Azerbaijan’s actions have only escalated in the absence of accountability.

A peace agreement should uphold, not dismiss, Armenia’s international legal cases by ensuring their outcomes are enforced. Efforts to impose sanctions, restrict military aid, and secure the release of Armenian hostages rely on acknowledging Azerbaijan’s crimes, not disregarding them in negotiations.

Azerbaijan’s ongoing threats against Armenia, occupation of sovereign Armenian territory, hostage diplomacy, and demands for territorial concessions and constitutional changes undermine efforts to achieve a just and durable peace. By signaling a willingness to abandon international legal and political mechanisms for accountability, Pashinyan risks jeopardizing crucial efforts to secure the release of Armenian hostages, protect Artsakh’s at-risk Armenian heritage, and uphold the fundamental right of return for Artsakh’s displaced Armenians.

Nikol Pashinyan, speaking at an invite-only meeting with a select group of Armenian community representatives and organizational leaders at the Armenian Embassy in Washington, D.C., stated that ideological changes are taking place in Armenia as a result of the defeat in the Second Artsakh War. According to him, this defeat “gave Armenia the opportunity to have an independent, sovereign state.”

Pashinyan emphasized that a significant negative perception of Armenia has developed in the region, which he believes must be “managed.” He also stressed that Armenia should rely on its own strengths rather than depend on external support.

He admitted that he arrived at this conclusion not through academic studies but through the experience gained during his tenure.

It is also worth noting that part of the Armenian community refused to meet with Pashinyan, citing his policies of disregarding Artsakh and questioning the reality of the Armenian Genocide. Additionally, members of the community gathered outside the embassy in protest.

Eighteen years have passed since the 2007 assassination of Hrant Dink, a prominent Turkish-Armenian journalist who was shot twice in the head outside his office in central Istanbul.

Dink’s murder sent shockwaves through Turkey’s Armenian community, sparking widespread grief and a protracted trial that lasted over a decade. The investigation implicated senior security officials accused of knowing about the murder plot but failing to act.

In 2021, Turkish courts sentenced two former police chiefs and two high-ranking security officials to life imprisonment for their roles in the killing.

As a newspaper editor, Dink was widely respected for his writings on the Armenian Genocide, his advocacy for human and minority rights in Turkey, and his efforts to promote reconciliation between Turks and Armenians. At the time of his assassination, he was facing charges under Article 301 of the Turkish Penal Code for allegedly “denigrating Turkishness.” His death triggered mass protests across Turkey and drew strong condemnation from the international community.

Despite his enduring legacy, Turkey’s repressive policies toward minorities, including Armenians, have remained largely unchanged since his death.

This year marks the 33rd anniversary of the liberation of the Krkzan district of Stepanakert.

On the evening of January 19 and into the early hours of January 20, 1992, Artsakh defense units conducted an operation to destroy a military stronghold and forced Azerbaijan out of their positions.

Since 1990, Krkzan, which comprises a quarter of Stepanakert, had served as a defensive site for the Azerbaijanis. From there, they continually bombarded Stepanakert.

In November 1991, the police and army units of the USSR were withdrawn from Artsakh. As a result, the Azerbaijanis began organizing the delivery of armaments to the areas under their control. Having occupied the Krkzan-Stepanakert road, they continued to shell the capital.

From December 26 to December 27, Armenian units attacked Azerbaijani positions outside of Krkzan. After losing four soldiers, the Armenian forces retreated. However, by early January, after continuing their offensive and taking control of regions surrounding Krkzan, Armenian forces launched their final assault on January 19-20.

Forty men, led by Dushman Vardan (Vardan Stepanyan), managed to infiltrate enemy lines and launch a surprise attack from the rear, throwing the enemy’s defense into complete disarray and leading to its collapse.

Armenian Midfielder Vahan Bichakhchyan Set to Join Legia Warsaw

Armenian national team midfielder Vahan Bichakhchyan is reportedly close to signing with Polish club Legia Warsaw, according to Goal.pl.

The 15-time Polish champions are looking to capitalize on the fact that the 25-year-old’s current contract with Pogoń Szczecin expires on June 30, 2025. Additionally, financial difficulties at Pogoń could further facilitate the transfer.

Legia is currently in negotiations with Bichakhchyan, and if talks progress successfully, an official announcement about the transfer is expected within the next few hours. Sources indicate that the Warsaw-based club is prepared to pay €200,000–300,000 for the midfielder.

Earlier reports suggested that Israeli club Maccabi Tel Aviv, a 25-time domestic champion, had also shown interest in Bichakhchyan. However, Legia seems to be leading the race for his signature.

Bichakhchyan joined Pogoń Szczecin in January 2022, scoring 18 goals and providing 12 assists in 112 appearances for the Polish side. Pogoń has already confirmed his departure.

Legia Warsaw, coached by 34-year-old Portuguese manager Gonçalo Feio, is currently 4th in the Polish Ekstraklasa standings with 32 points, six points behind league leaders Lech Poznań.

The potential signing of Bichakhchyan could be a significant boost for Legia as they aim to strengthen their squad for the remainder of the season.

BREAKING: KJT Law Group, alongside former Los Angeles District Attorney Steve Cooley and Parris Law Firm, has filed a mass tort lawsuit against Southern California Edison (SCE) over the Eaton Fire, which began on January 7, 2025. According to a press release published by the firm, the fire has claimed 16 lives, destroyed over 7,000 structures, burned more than 14,000 acres, and displaced thousands in Altadena and Pasadena. The lawsuit alleges that SCE failed to take preventative measures despite warnings of strong Santa Ana winds, which eyewitnesses claim ignited the fire at a power structure in Altadena.

Caspar Jivalagian, co-founder of KJT Law Group and a Pasadena native, emphasized the importance of holding SCE accountable. “This is about accountability. We will not sit by without demanding answers on how this happened and why it wasn’t prevented,” he stated. An Altadena resident described the fire’s rapid spread: “The fire started towards the top of the mountain and rushed down so fast we didn’t have any time to think or pack anything.”

The Eaton Fire is one of four major fires currently affecting the Greater Los Angeles area, exacerbated by strong winds and a worsening insurance crisis. Many fire insurance policies expired on December 31, 2024, leaving homeowners vulnerable.

Jivalagian reaffirmed the firm’s commitment to supporting the impacted communities, regardless of their insurance status. “This is personal for us. We are going to do everything in our power to help those impacted – irrespective of their homeowner’s insurance. This is not about profit – it’s about people.”

Today marks the commemoration of Hayk Asatryan (February 5, 1900 – January 13, 1956), a distinguished Armenian philosopher, political theorist, and co-founder of the ideologies of Tseghakronism and Taronism.

Early Life and Education:

Born in Alashkert, Asatryan was actively involved in the Armenian Revolutionary Federation during his youth. He participated in the 1921 February Uprising before relocating to Bulgaria and Romania. Pursuing higher education, he earned a Doctor of Philosophy degree from the University of Prague in 1930.

Collaboration with Garegin Nzhdeh:

Asatryan was a close associate of Garegin Nzhdeh, with whom he co-founded the ideologies of Tseghakronism and Taronism. Together, they edited periodicals such as the semi-weekly newspaper Razmik (1937–1944) and published the magazine Race and Homeland.

Advocacy and Publications:

In 1942, Asatryan published Armenia: Aryan Outpost in Western Asia in both Armenian and German. This work aimed to counteract fascist propaganda that falsely labeled Armenians as of Semitic origin, a narrative that posed a genocidal threat similar to that faced by Jews during that era.

Later Life and Imprisonment:

In 1944, Asatryan was arrested by Soviet counter-intelligence in Bulgaria and sentenced to ten years in Soviet prisons, enduring incarceration until 1955. He passed away on January 13, 1956, in Sofia, Bulgaria.

Asatryan’s contributions to Armenian political thought and his steadfast advocacy for the recognition of Armenian heritage continue to be remembered and honored.

Fires across the Los Angeles area have caused widespread devastation, claiming at least 24 lives, leaving 16 people missing, and destroying over 12,000 structures. More than 60 square miles have been scorched, displacing tens of thousands of residents and forcing over 150,000 to evacuate. Currently, more than 700 people are seeking refuge in nine emergency shelters, with curfews in effect in the Palisades and Eaton fire zones from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m.

Amid the tragedy, Ani Badalyan, spokesperson for the Armenian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, confirmed that no Armenian citizens are among the victims. She noted that the Armenian Consulate General in Glendale is closely coordinating with local authorities, including the municipalities of Los Angeles and Glendale, as well as community organizations, to monitor the situation and provide assistance if needed.

In response to the crisis, the ARF Western U.S.A. convened a meeting in Glendale, bringing together Armenian organizations from across the region to form a unified task force. The group pledged to coordinate resources, unite manpower, and address both the immediate and long-term needs of those affected by the wildfires. Their efforts aim to streamline relief initiatives and provide critical support to impacted communities.

Firefighting efforts involve more than 14,000 personnel from California, eight other U.S. states, Canada, and Mexico. Over 1,300 fire engines and 84 aircraft are being deployed in the massive response. While progress has been made in containing the deadly Palisades and Eaton fires, officials warn that strong Santa Ana winds—expected to reach up to 60 mph—could worsen conditions through midweek. The National Weather Service has issued a “particularly dangerous situation” red flag warning, highlighting the urgent need to contain the fires before they escalate further.

EU Considers Extending Armenia Mission Amid Regional Tensions and Azerbaijani Criticism

Kaja Kallas, the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, has proposed extending the EU civilian mission in Armenia for an additional two years. Member states have welcomed the proposal and are currently discussing the necessary legal acts with the relevant bodies of the Council of the European Union. A decision on the extension is expected in the coming days.

For months, Baku has accused the mission of espionage and undermining regional stability. Azerbaijani officials have expressed concerns over the mission’s presence, alleging that it contributes to regional tensions rather than peace.

In a recent interview, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan mentioned that he proposed to Azerbaijan the removal of observers from sections of the border where demarcation and delimitation have been completed. This suggestion aims to address some of the concerns raised by Azerbaijan regarding the mission’s activities.

The EU civilian mission in Armenia, established to monitor the security situation along the Armenia-Azerbaijan border, has been a point of contention in the region. While Armenia views the mission as a stabilizing factor, Azerbaijan and Russia have criticized it, alleging espionage activities.

The Council of the European Union is expected to make a decision on the mission’s extension soon, taking into account the differing perspectives of the involved parties.

I wanted a vehicle comfortable enough to live in long-term, so I can truly explore. My first journey will be to St. Khach Church in the Geghama mountain range. After that, I plan to travel across Armenia. We’re a country at war, fighting for our land. But how can we protect something we don’t fully know or appreciate? So many people never truly discover Armenia.”

Sargis’ story is a powerful reminder: life is too short to let dreams remain dreams. With determination and love for his homeland, he’s paving the way for a deeper connection to Armenia, one kilometer at a time.

Armenia has agreed to dissolve the OSCE Minsk Group as part of Azerbaijan’s proposals for establishing stability and peace in the region. Nikol Pashinyan shared this decision on his Facebook page, adding that a joint expert committee could be formed to address refugee issues from both countries once peace is established.

This move once again highlights the Armenian authorities’ compliance with Aliyev’s demands, even in the face of his provocative statements about the physical destruction of Armenia.

At this point, Pashinyan’s administration seems to have only two major steps remaining: amending the Armenian Constitution and reducing the size of the army.

The fires, fueled by winds gusting between 80 and 100 miles per hour, began Tuesday morning in the Pacific Palisades area and have burned nearly 16,000 acres. A second fire, the Eaton Fire, ignited Tuesday evening in Altadena and quickly spread, consuming over 10,600 acres and threatening nearby communities, including Pasadena and La Cañada. A third fire, the Hurst Fire, erupted later Tuesday night near Sylmar and has burned approximately 500 acres.

Mandatory evacuations have displaced thousands of residents, including hundreds of Armenian community members in Altadena, Pasadena, La Cañada, Crescenta Valley, and northern Glendale, who have been forced to abandon their homes and seek refuge elsewhere.

In a lengthy interview today, Azerbaijan’s dictator Ilham Aliyev issued new threats against Armenia, accusing it of being a fascist state and warning of further escalation if demands are not met.

“Arming Armenia will only bring new tensions. We don’t want this,” Aliyev said, adding that “a fascist state has been formed in Armenia. That fascism will either be destroyed by Armenia’s leadership or by us. There is no other option.”

Aliyev emphasized his vision for peace and cooperation in the South Caucasus, but with conditions that undermine Armenia’s sovereignty. “Armenia should not stand in our way. They should not act as a geographic barrier between Turkey and Azerbaijan. Armenia is effectively a source of threat to the region,” he stated.

Aliyev also dismissed the necessity of a peace treaty with Armenia: “If Yerevan doesn’t need a peace treaty, then Baku doesn’t need it either. We can live without a peace treaty.”

Aliyev revealed that Azerbaijan has proposed holding the next meeting of border delimitation commissions in January. He reiterated Azerbaijan’s insistence on the opening of the so-called “Zangezur Corridor,” which would connect Azerbaijan to Turkey via Armenia.

“The ‘Zangezur Corridor’ must be opened and will be opened. The sooner they understand this, the better,” Aliyev declared.

These remarks highlight Azerbaijan’s escalating rhetoric and potential plans for further military aggression against Armenia.

The hostages were released on the morning of October 28, after the terrorists, having received security assurances, surrendered and were taken to the National Security Prison.

Gyumri’s Political Landscape Shaken: Opposition Balasanyan Family Detained, Possible Elections Ahead

Located in the northern part of Armenia’s Lori Province, on the road from Stepanavan to Privolnoye village, stands the little-known but remarkable Dorbandavank Monastery. About 3 km northeast of Sverdlov village, this historic site is easily accessible due to recent renovations of the Stepanavan-Privolnoye road, which is now in excellent condition and offers travelers breathtaking scenery across the plains.

The Dorbandavank Surb Astvatsatsin (Holy Mother of God) Church is a significant monument of the Gugark region’s cultural heritage, exemplifying early medieval Armenian architecture. Built in the first half of the 6th century, it showcases the classic ornamental decorations of the period, including horseshoe arches, cornices, and double-row dentils framing the windows. This domed, three-nave, cross-layout church is especially notable for its unique design and architectural features, placing it among the distinguished three-pitched structures of early medieval Armenia. It underwent renovation in the 1980s to preserve its structure and historical significance.

Gagik Harutyunyan of the Identity Foundation emphasizes the importance of safeguarding cultural heritage sites like Dorbandavank, especially in light of recent cultural losses in Artsakh and the growing disconnect with these heritage sites today.

The France-Armenia Friendship Group is urging the international community to take decisive action ahead of COP29 in Baku.

On behalf of the France-Armenia Inter-Parliamentary Friendship Group of the Senate, Chairman Gilbert-Luc Devinaz is calling on the international community to act decisively, as Azerbaijan, which is preparing to host COP29 on November 11, continues to carry out its criminal plan of ethnic cleansing in Artskh with impunity.

For ten months, Azerbaijan starved the population of Artsakh by blocking the Lachin ( Berdzor) corridor, eventually forcing them into exile. Azerbaijan also continues to detain several political figures of the Republic of Artsakh, who were arbitrarily arrested, and is destroying Armenian cultural heritage in Artsakh.

Ahead of COP29, and to avoid endorsing these crimes, which amount to crimes against humanity, the Friendship Group urges the international community to set conditions for Azerbaijan, demanding:

•the unconditional and immediate release of political prisoners;
•the immediate dispatch of a UNESCO mission to Artsakh to protect Armenian and religious heritage;
•and a commitment to provide a safe return for refugees from Artsakh in accordance with the ruling of the International Court of Justice.

In early October, the Azerbaijani administration allegedly demolished much of the historical center of the former capital, Stepanakert, as confirmed by video and photographs.

“These actions, aimed at erasing centuries of history, are comparable to the crimes committed by ISIS in Iraq, Syria, and Libya, which UNESCO has called ‘cultural genocide,’ or the destruction of the giant Buddha statues in Bamiyan by the Taliban in Afghanistan,” said Gilbert-Luc Devinaz, Chairman of the Friendship Group. “By destroying the land that has served as home to Armenians and their ancestors for centuries, the Aliyev regime confirms its intentions not to allow refugees from Nagorno-Karabakh to return home,” Devinaz expressed his concern.

The European Parliament adopted a resolution condemning Azerbaijan’s human rights violations and breaches of international law, with a strong majority of 453 votes in favor. The resolution criticizes Azerbaijan's repression of opposition leaders, journalists, and civil society, particularly ahead of the COP 29 summit. It calls for the immediate release of political prisoners and urges EU leaders to use COP 29 to hold Azerbaijan accountable for its human rights obligations.

The resolution stresses that Azerbaijan's human rights record makes it unfit to host the COP 29 summit and calls for the EU to end its dependency on Azerbaijani gas. It urges the suspension of the 2022 energy memorandum unless human rights improvements and the release of political prisoners are ensured. Additionally, the EU should consider sanctions against those threatening Armenia’s sovereignty.

The resolution demands Azerbaijan respect Armenia's territorial integrity and withdraw its forces. It also calls for the release of Armenian prisoners of war and compliance with international rulings regarding the Armenians of Artsakh. Protection of cultural heritage in Artsakh is highlighted, with a call for UNESCO access to the region.

MEPs also emphasize the importance of the EU’s civilian mission in Armenia and call for an extension of its mandate. They urge the freezing of military exports to Azerbaijan and insist on diplomatic repercussions for Azerbaijani officials who insult or threaten EU representatives.

Nikol Pashinyan and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev held a meeting in Kazan, Russia, during the BRICS+ Summit, as reported by the Armenian government. According to the statement published by the Armenian government, the parties engaged in discussions regarding the advancement of the bilateral peace agenda, which includes the peace agreement, delimitation and demarcation of borders, and other mutual concerns.

Earlier, the two leaders briefly exchanged words during the summit, where they were seated next to each other during the general discussion. According to TASS, the two "exchanged a couple of phrases" while sitting side-by-side at a round table during the plenary session. Other notable participants included Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko, seated between the heads of delegations from Bolivia and Bangladesh, and Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, alongside representatives from Serbia and Nicaragua.

The BRICS Summit, which began on October 22 and concludes on October 24, is expected to produce a final declaration from its member nations. Since the start of 2024, Russia has chaired BRICS under the theme "Strengthening Multilateralism for Equitable Global Development and Security." Originally formed in 2006 by Brazil, Russia, India, and China, BRICS expanded with South Africa in 2011. On January 1, 2024, Egypt, Iran, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, and Ethiopia joined as full members, marking their first summit as part of the group.

Despite the meeting between Pashinyan and Aliyev, no detailed outcomes have been reported yet. Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov confirmed that their conversation, captured on live broadcast, did not interfere with the summit proceedings. The National Library of Armenia has recently acquired two rare publications. One of them is Ephrem the Syrian’s Book of Prayers. St. Ephrem the Syrian, who lived in the 4th century in Syria, is recognized as one of the twelve ecumenical holy teachers from before the 5th century. Born in the city of Nisibis in 306 AD to Christian parents, a significant portion of his works has been preserved in Armenian translations. The Book of Prayers was published in Constantinople at the Martiros Sargsyan printing house in 1734 and features 95 decorated pages. In the colophon, the publisher asks readers to remember his parents and brothers, and at the very end, he humbly requests remembrance for himself as well: “…the humble scribe Martiros, the insignificant servant.”

The National Library’s copy is missing the title page and the second page. Previously, the library only had a digital version of this book, available in the “Armenian Book” repository and digitized from the Matenadaran’s copy.

The second acquisition is a Turkish Bible printed in Armenian letters, published in 1888 at the A. Y. Boyajian printing house in Constantinople.

Azerbaijan rejected an Armenian proposal for an initial peace deal, insisting that Armenia’s constitution must change to remove territorial claims.

Nikol Pashinyan had proposed intensive talks between the two countries’ foreign ministers to resolve remaining issues before the COP29 summit in Baku, but Azerbaijan has not responded.

Meanwhile Turkey continues to tie the reopening of the border and diplomatic relations with Armenia to a resolution of the Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict. Turkish President Erdogan also insists that any peace deal must include a land corridor through Armenia to Azerbaijan’s Nakhichevan exclave.
