Earlier this month, 30 students from the Department of Civil Engineering and Department of Quantity Surveying at Kolej Laila Taib, as well as three lecturers, went to the Sibu Water Board for an educational site visit . This site visit provided students with a valuable opportunity to learn first-hand about the water treatment station construction project. The event aims to bridge the gap between theoretical learning and practical application and reflects the college's commitment to producing employable graduates.

The main contractor for the project is Perbena Emas Sdn Bhd. The project aims to increase the treatment capacity of the Salim Water Treatment Station from 150 million liters per day (MLD) to 300 million liters per day (MLD) to meet the increasing water demand in the Sibu Water Boardโ€™s water supply area until 2036. This move will also increase the reserve water capacity of the water treatment station to 30% and contribute to the water supply planning of Central Sarawak.

In addition, the project will bring many benefits, notably the provision of clean water, thereby significantly improving public health, promoting environmental protection, and supporting regional economic growth. In addition, the project is expected to serve communities with a population of approximately 350,000, benefiting areas such as Sibu District, Kanowit, Selangau, Maradong and Rassau until 2036. This initiative highlights the critical role of sustainable water management in driving social and economic development.
