He was serving 35 life sentences for murdering 35 civilians and injuring 215 others in three suicide bombings.

These terrorist attacks included the Moment Cafe in Jerusalem, a nightclub in Rishon Letzion, and the Hebrew University in Jerusalem.

Today, he was released as a part of the hostage deal.

It has been cleared for publication that in a covert, special operation conducted by IDF and ISA special forces in the Gaza Strip, the IDF recovered the body of fallen IDF soldier Staff Sergeant Oron Shaul, who fell in combat in Shejaiya on July 20, 2014, during Operation Protective Edge, and his body was abducted by the Hamas terrorist organization.

The efforts to return him, including the gathering of intelligence by the Hostages and Missing Persons Unit and the Special Operations Unit in the Intelligence Directorate, continued for over a decade and during this war.

Following an identification procedure carried out by the National Institute of Forensic Medicine and the Military Rabbinate, IDF and ISA representatives updated the family this morning (Sunday).

The IDF and ISA are continuing to operate in order to bring home all the hostages as soon as possible.

IDF: The IDF is preparing to implement the agreement for the return of the hostages that was approved by the political echelon overnight (Saturday).

The agreement will take effect on Sunday, January 19th, at 08:30, and as part of it, IDF troops will implement the operational procedures in the field in accordance with the set agreements.

The IDF has been preparing to receive the hostages after their release from Hamas captivity and is operating to provide suitable physical and psychological support, with careful attention to every detail.

Alongside the agreement and our commitment to bringing home all the hostages, the IDF will continue to operate in order to ensure the security of all Israeli citizens, particularly those in communities near the Gaza Strip.

📈 Latest Update: Israel At War

Overnight, the IAF conducted intelligence-based strikes on Hezbollah terror targets in the Dahieh area, a key Hezbollah terrorist stronghold in Beirut. Among the targets struck were command centers and additional Hezbollah terrorist infrastructure sites.

Hezbollah systematically embedded its terrorist infrastructure amidst the Lebanese civilian population, cynically exploiting them as human shields.

Prior to the strikes, numerous steps were taken to mitigate the risk to civilians, including the gathering of prior intelligence, using aerial surveillance, and issuing advance warnings to the population in the area.

These strikes are a part of the IDF's ongoing efforts to dismantle and degrade Hezbollah's military capabilities in the Dahieh area.

This evening I sent a letter to the President of the UN Security Council in which I called for immediate action regarding the activity of the pro-Iranian militias in Iraq, whose territory is being used to attack Israel.

I emphasized that the Iraqi government is responsible for everything that happens on its territory and that Israel has the right to self-defense, as enshrined in the UN Charter, to protect itself and its citizens.

I called on the Security Council to act urgently to make sure that the Iraqi government meets its obligations under international law and to make these attacks on Israel stop.

Humanitarian aid from the UAE, is entering Gaza through the Erez West Crossing. 15 trucks loaded with goods from the UAE's "MIRA" vessel—delivered to Ashdod Port—entered northern Gaza today.

The shipment included 2,261 pallets of water, medical equipment, shelter supplies, and hygiene products. Over 300 trucks have begun moving the aid through Erez and Kerem Shalom Crossings.

In a joint operation with the @UAEmediaoffice, @EUCouncil and @WHO, @cogatonline facilitated the safe passage of 231 patients and caregivers from Gaza via the Kerem Shalom Crossing and the Ramon Airport to receive medical treatment abroad.

A total of 800 patients and caregivers in 15 groups crossing out of Gaza for medical treatment in Jordan, Romania, the UAE and the United States. This is the largest number of patients and caregivers who have left through the Kerem Shalom crossing in the recent months.

These humanitarian initiatives for Gazan civilians, were conducted by Israel in collaboration with international partners and aid organizations.

IRANIAN TERROR NETWORK OPERATIVE DETAINED: During an intelligence-based, special IDF operation, IDF soldiers detained an Iranian terror network operative in Syria named Ali Soleiman al-Assi.

Al-Assi, a Syrian citizen who lives in the area of Saida in southern Syria, was under IDF surveillance and was found to be a terrorist operative. His activity included gathering intelligence on IDF troops in the border area for future terror activity of the network.

The operation prevented a future attack and led to the exposure of the operational methods of Iranian terror networks located near the Golan Heights. Al-Assi was transferred for further investigation.

The IDF will not allow Iranian proxies in southern Syria to operate and threaten Israeli civilians.
