Quick update: please use @scload_bot instead since I lost access to the old one

Hello.

There seems to be some issue with YouTube, causing them to block all requests from the bot. I'll try to investigate it further, but for now YouTube loader will be disabled for undefined time. 👋

By the way, several people asked how they could help financially, so I started a BuyMeACoffee [1] page.

This way, when I face some problems with bot next time - I'll be having some funds ready to solve it.

Hello everyone, another update from me.

First of all, thanks to all who contacted me sharing suggestions on how to fix a problem. Some even offered to host the bot on their own servers, which I really appreciate, but decided to keep as a last resort solution if I won't find anything else.

Few last days I've been testing a new server and so far seems like everything's going alright. So I hope to use it as a permanent solution from now on. Will see would there be any issues.

Also some of you could've notice new kind of error which goes like: "downloading queue is full, try again later". Again, because of testing new server's capabilities I had to limit amount of concurrent downloads to optimize load. Bot's downloading speed is quite fast, so usually waiting for a just few seconds should be enough before sending your request again and it'll be processed.

Basically, this ^.
Heroku is killing their free plan, and so bot will die as well. I couldn't find any alternative to fit requirements so at November 28, 2022 it'll just stop working.

It all started at a cold January evening in 2020 as a small hobby project to learn new technology. But in the end, turned out as a quite big app (in my view), processing around 700-800k messages from more than 20,000 users every month, and lasted for almost 3 years.

Overall, it was a great experience. I learnt a lot, met some interesting people and fixed various "fun" bugs.

I'm grateful to everyone who used bot all this time, shared feedback, pinged me when something went wrong, and those who supported me. Thank you ❤️

Hello everyone, I'm back with another update 👋

A lot of changes under hood, but most users will notice only 2 things:
1) now same bot can work with SoundCloud and YouTube links as well
2) no more file size limit. Yes, now you can download podcasts and etc directly in telegram.

There's no limits currently, but please don't abuse new feature.
If you need to download several hour+ files - consider using specialized websites for that.

If I'll notice other people can't use bot normally because some person is downloading hours of music - I'll have to implement some kind of rate limiting. Remember this project is purely enthusiastic so I can't afford using very powerful servers, but I'd like to provide same experience for everyone.

My apologies, both bots will be dead until 1st August. For brief explanation, keep reading.

Apparently, adding second bot increased load on server more than i expected. And, in result, i ran out of my monthly limit.

Moreover, currently I'm not at home and won't have access to PC for a week more. Because of that I can't make any temporary "fix" to solve this problem.

Anyways, starting from August 1st, limit should reset and bots should be back alive. After that I'll try to find some other solution so this won't happen in future.

Quick update about @yt_loader_bot

Turned out, youtube changed how their api work, which led to weird bot's behaviour. I tried to make fixes for all changes as soon as possible, but they were quite unstable.
But, today i finally found (i hope) stable solution. Bot should work properly now, and if it doesn't - please send me problematic video url so i can investigate it.

Hi everyone!

This time i've come with new bot. People asked me about it for long time, and finally i've found enough time to make it.

So, let me introduce brand new @yt_loader_bot!

It works similar way as my soundcloud bot - send link to song video, and bot will reply with audio file. Thought, this time process also involves transforming video into audio, so it may take more time compared to @sc_download_bot.

Also some change regarding groups. Now (while using bot in group) you need to use /get command each time before sending link. This way bot will stop listening and processing all irrelevant messages. Private messages and channels works as they were before.

Soon after that i will update @sc_download_bot same way. This will help me to save some resources and reduce load.

It's been a while since I last wrote here.

I'm glad to announce that i made some significant changes few days ago, so bot should work more stable now.

Also today i added some workaround for large files (not exactly how i would like, but at least it's working)

So now you can download long songs / podcasts via bot as well 🎉.

Important sidenote: I'm not sure yet, but maybe I'll need to add some limits in future, so keep in touch

Alright, so, it's time to get little nostalgic.

It's been almost a year since i made this bot and it gave me mixed feelings. Waking up to messages like "hey, bot doesn't work" (or seeing them right before i sleep) and then spending few hours trying to understand what's wrong and fixing it sometimes was fun, sometimes - not much. But I'm still glad I did it.

At first I was doing this bot for me and friends, so I could wait with fixing even weeks. Now, there is a certain audience to which I feel responsible, so I try to restore the bot to work as soon as it breaks.

However, only enthusiasm alone is not always enough. So I tried to find additional way to motivate myself and created Patreon page. I'm sure - watching how my work brings me extra coffee or allows me to rent a better, faster server, will help with motivation to continue maintaining and improving bot. I already plan to make some "premium"-like features for supporters and even thought about implementing playlist loading, but unsure yet is it needed.

To those, who don't know whats Patreon - basically, its a service, which allows people to support creators of various content with donations (once or monthly), so they can focus on creating their product without using ads or similar things.

Today @sc_download_bot got a big update.

Main points:
- now bot process messages simultaneously, means there will be no more delay if someone already using bot;

- no more youtube. Yes, now SoundCloud Downloader bot work only with soundcloud.com. There was a lot of reasons and i planned to do with long time ago. But still, I don't exclude possibility creating youtube bot in future;

- better localisation (translation) code. Means adding new translations to app will be much easier. With that said, if any of you want to help with translating bot to your native language (or with correcting current ones) please contact me (@Camelva);

- a lot of boring changes "under hood"

Made some changes to bot behaviour, but deployed as another bot so it won't break stability. This new bot has no song duration limits but Telegram's file size limit still here (50mb is maximum for bots). Also it should be much more responsive.

Later i will update original bot to this version, but need some testing before.
Also i removed YouTube module, so now it support only SoundCloud
