Around 12 people were injured, one critically, after an ICE train collided with an articulated lorry near a level crossing in Hamburg on Tuesday. The train, traveling from Hamburg to Munich with 279 passengers, hit the lorry at high speed. Despite the driver’s attempt to brake, the collision was unavoidable. Emergency services, including 80 firefighters and a rescue helicopter, rushed to the scene to assist the injured.
The crash forced the closure of the Hamburg-Harburg to Buchholz rail line, with trains being diverted and delays of around 15 minutes expected. Deutsche Bahn assured that the impact on long-distance travel would be minimal. The lorry, reportedly owned by a rail manufacturer, was likely on the tracks at the time of the accident, though investigations are ongoing.
