Those who are happy with Donald Trump's victory, please read this:
Donald Trump’s presidency had a mixed impact on India, with both positive and challenging aspects in areas like trade, defense, immigration, and foreign policy.
The first is about stronger defense and strategic relations. Trump's government focused on making the U.S.-India strategic partnership stronger, especially as a way to fight China. The US backed India's role in the Indo-Pacific region by giving it advanced military gear and making the QUAD alliance (the US, India, Japan, and Australia) stronger.
India's security and its interests in the region, especially in the Indian Ocean and along its border with China, were backed by better military cooperation.
Second, Trade Relations and Economic Policy: The Trump administration was protectionist and put taxes on Indian goods and took India out of the Generalized System of Preferences (GSP), which let some Indian goods come to the U.S. duty-free. This caused problems and hurt India's foreign economy. He did, however, try to lower the trade imbalance, which made India give in some things that might be good for trade in the long run. That being said, these trade fights stayed a problem.
Third is Immigration and Visa Policy: Trump's strict immigration policies, especially on H-1B visas, had an effect on Indian tech workers and professionals, which had an effect on India's IT industry and its U.S. workforce. India had a hard time with the green card and immigration restrictions because it has a lot of skilled workers living in the U.S.
This hurt not only Indians' chances of getting jobs in the U.S., but also the money they sent back to India, which helps many families and the Indian economy.
Next is the position on Pakistan and terrorism. Trump's government made a point of talking about Pakistan's role in hiding terrorists, which has been an issue for India for a long time. India was in favor of the U.S. putting pressure on Pakistan to stop terrorism, and Trump cut Pakistan's military help.
India liked this attitude because it was meant to cut down on cross-border terrorism and put pressure on Pakistan on issues that were important to India's security.
Last but not least, investments in the economy and energy security: Trump's focus on energy exports led to more oil and gas sales from the U.S. to India. This helped India get energy from more places besides the Middle East. Also, American businesses put more money into India, mainly in technology and military fields. India's goal to increase foreign direct investment (FDI) was helped by more investment possibilities.
