Journalists from the Romanian media “BucPress” reported about the blatant searches of the dean of the Storozhynetskyi district of the Chernivtsi-Bukovyna diocese of the UOC, Father Vasyl Kovalchuk.

The article says that the SBU organized these searches literally a few hours before the visit of Cyprian Olinichi from the State Secretariat for Religious Affairs, together with the Romanian Ambassador to Kyiv, Victor Micula, and the Consul General of Romania in Chernivtsi, Irina-Loredana Stenculescu.

“Georgi Kovalchuk, the priest’s son, told AGERPRES: “There were searches in my father’s house. They asked why my brother was in Russia. My brother left home in 2007. He studied there and stayed. He was a priest in Moscow region for a long time, did not return home, because at that time he did not have documents. The invasion of 2022 began and he was not able to return home. “These are normal family relations, but no one discusses politics.”

The journalists added that after the searches, Fr. Vasily was hospitalized in the intensive care unit.
The actions of the security forces took place in the context of the confrontation between the UOC and OCU activists.

“A close friend of Father Kovalchuk told BucPress that the Ukrainian authorities “did everything to avoid a meeting with the Secretary for Religious Affairs of Romania.” “The Father is currently in the hospital with a heart condition.” At the same time, the “Pershy Kozakskyi” media, close to the UOC, accused the authorities of “pressure and intimidation of Ukrainian Christians.”

The Romanian media recalled that on February 9, representatives of the OCU tried to seize 2 churches in Storozhyntsi.

Believers are defending their shrine from OCU raiders through continuous prayer.
A round-the-clock prayer vigil has been ongoing for more than two weeks in the Holy Spirit Cathedral of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (UOC) in Chernivtsi, according to the Orthobuk Telegram channel. Before the beginning of Great Lent, the clergy served two Liturgies daily – one in the morning and one at night. At all other times, the Unceasing Psalter is read.
On the fifteenth day of the prayer vigil, believers held a procession around the cathedral.

It should be recalled that on February 16, 2025, a gathering of unknown individuals with flags took place outside the fence of the Holy Spirit Cathedral of the UOC. Amid chants of "Death to the enemies!" and without any legal grounds, they voted for the transfer of the city’s three main churches to the Orthodox Church of Ukraine (OCU). Some cathedral parishioners recognized some of them as members of the UGCC and OCU communities.
At the same time, inside the cathedral, several thousand parishioners of the UOC religious community voted to remain faithful to their Church. Similar votes were later held in other UOC churches in Chernivtsi.
Nevertheless, on February 26, 2025, unknown individuals re-registered the three main UOC churches in Chernivtsi – the Holy Spirit Cathedral, St. Nicholas Cathedral, and the Church of Saints Peter and Paul – under the name of the OCU "bishop" Theognost (Yaroslav) Bodoriak.

Later, it was revealed that the illegal re-registration of the Holy Spirit Cathedral, St. Nicholas Cathedral, and the Church of Saints Peter and Paul was carried out by Solomiya Hryniv, an official of the Lviv Regional State Administration and an active supporter of the OCU. In 2024, Serhiy Dumenko awarded her a certificate of appreciation "For services to the OCU".

The wave of raider seizures of UOC temples by activists and Epiphany clergy forced believers to seek protection from the US authorities.

This courageous and important step has attracted a lot of world attention to the terror and persecution that is being carried out against the UOC.

And now the security apparatus is pressing and intimidating Ukrainian Christians.

Soviet specialist and, at the same time, the head of the DESS Yelensky met in Chernivtsi with the State Secretary for Religious Affairs of Romania, Ciprian Olinichi.

Obviously, Mr. Olinichi's visit to Bukovyna is not a coincidence. The wave of raider seizures of temples by OCU activists is growing, and the "flying squad" of serial raider Hryshchuk is working non-stop.
Every week, the Epiphany's thieves falsify documents for UOC temples.
Even the Holy Spirit Cathedral of the UOC is a victim of raiders.

There is no doubt that Romania knows about this. And Yelensky rushed to Bukovina to wash militants and raiders.

The DESS reported that the topic of discussion was the law banning the UOC.
Yelensky assured that the law banning the Church “in no way restricts and will not restrict religious freedom in Ukraine.”

DESS officials added that Yelensky and the Secretary of State emphasized the need for dialogue between the Romanian Orthodox Church and the OCU. It is interesting what everyone meant while having this “dialogue.”

“The issue of religious relics that are of particular importance for the culture and historical memory of Romania and are located on the territory of Ukraine, as well as historical monuments associated with persons who played an important role in the history of Ukraine and are located on the territory of Romania, was also discussed.”

The best illustration of these “issues” is the UOC Church of the Three Saints in Chernivtsi, where Romanian bishops are buried.
The local authorities and the OCU took the shrine from the Romanian-speaking parish of the UOC.
The OCU raiders exploited the
captured temple literally 2 weeks after the alienation. According to our information, having learned that they would have to maintain the temple, the Epiphany thieves simply put a lock on it.
Since the spring of last year, the taken shrine has been empty and closed.
By the way, Romanian Christians also know about this.

The Ministry of Defense is demanding through the court to cancel the ownership of the UOC St. Ilya Muromets Religious Community to the church building.

Several years ago, the hospital management restricted the religious community's access to the church. Now their plans are to take the church away permanently and re-equip it for their own needs.

It is noteworthy that in 2007, the Ministry of Defense transferred the buildings of the military hospital to private companies and the hospital buildings were divided among 3 enterprises. During the 2015 court proceedings on the return of the buildings, the temple was allocated to a separate register and at that time the state did not make any claims against the religious community.

But now the abbot has been banned from accessing the temple.

"This temple is open. Only those who have access to the territory have access to it - that is, patients, staff can go there," says Serhiy Bachynsky, deputy commander for psychological support of personnel.

The abbot, as a civilian, does not have access to the premises, supposedly due to martial law.

Religious rites for the wounded are performed by the military chaplain of the OCU, Dmitry Povorotny. He convinces that the temple "formally belongs to the UOC- Ukrainian Orthodox Church, but in fact remains part of the Russian Orthodox Church." However, Mr. Dmitry has been making up stories about "MPs" who "refuse to bury soldiers" and "pro-Russian" - for a long time and systematically, in many anti-church media publications.
