Another data point only ….. my water/sewer/garbage bill now has a “remit to” location in Dallas, Tex. It used to be a PO Box in Baton Rouge. This change happened on my last bill. Last months bill still showed the “remit to” address in Baton Rouge 🤔

Forbidding French to be spoken and creating a stigmatism of “poor Louisiana people” - creating the “Louisiana people are uneducated, backwoods folk”because we were made to be ashamed of our heritage, hence the French language to diminished. Our parents and grandparents hid in barns to speak their native language and did not pass along our heritage to us to protect us. During the “we have only one language in this country” era, if you were caught speaking French, you were severely punished.

Some, including myself, see this as a type of discrimination and civil rights violation.

It breaks my heart that my parents and their parents were forced to learn English and to be ashamed of who we are and who we descend from.

In my mind, it’s a type of genocide.

For those who know and for those who are not familiar with our heritage, this is an excellent read.

Prior to the Jim Crow era, a mixing of cultures was not uncommon in Louisiana. After and during Jim Crow, those who could pass for white did so for a better life. Those who could not pass for white moved out of Louisiana for a better life or they created a community for themselves but then came the scam of the civil rights movement. The elite white man wanted to dominate our society. And just to clarify, the country was being taken over by the bad Jews.
