A distressing gang-rape incident in Visakhapatnam has come to light, where a 20-year-old law student was sexually assaulted by her boyfriend and his friends.. The sequence of events reportedly began in August 2024 when the victim was coerced into physical relations by her boyfriend, Vamsi. Subsequently, she was taken to a friend's residence, where Vamsi's friends recorded explicit videos without her consent. Using these videos, they blackmailed her and subjected her to repeated assaults.

The victim, unable to bear the continued harassment, attempted suicide but was rescued by her family. Upon learning the details, her family approached the police. A case has been registered under Visakhapatnam's Two Town Police, and all four accused-three law students and one private employee-are now in custody.

Official Response:

Andhra Pradesh Home Minister Anita has condemned the incident, emphasizing that the government stands by the victim's family. She assured that the perpetrators would face severe punishment and steps would be taken to prevent similar incidents in the future.

This tragic incident has sparked outrage and calls for stringent action against the accused. Police investigations are ongoing.

#CJI DY Chandrachud Recommends Justice Sanjiv Khanna As Next Chief Justice Of India.

As per convention, the Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud, who is on the verge of retirement, has recommended the name of the second senior judge of the Supreme Court, Justice Sanjiv Khanna, as the next Chief Justice of India.

CJI has written to the Union Government proposing Justice Khanna's name.

CJI Chandracuhd is demitting office on November 10, 2024. If the Union Government accepts CJI Chandrachud's recommendation, Justice Khanna will be the 51st Chief Justice of India. As CJI, Justice Khanna will have a term of nearly seven months till May 13, 2025.

Supreme Court To Decide Whether Gram Nyayalayas Under 1998 Act Are Optional Or Mandatory
Justice Gavai said that the solution may be need-based and state-specific and the question on whether to constitute Gram Nyayalayas would have to be answered through consultations between the state government and respective High Courts. “The Chief Justice and Chief Minister will have to take a call,” he said.

The Bench ordered the state governments and the High Courts to file a fresh affidavit stating their position on the constitution of #Gram Nyayalayas within six weeks. The Union Government was directed to file an affidavit detailing the state-wise disbursal of funds for implementing the Act.
