🎄Merry Christmas… or is it still coming?

😎If you're new to Russia, you might be wondering, why on earth are Russians saying "Merry Christmas" in January? ❄️ No, they didn’t invent their own version of the holiday.

👌Here’s the scoop: Russia celebrates Christmas on January 7th because the Russian Orthodox Church follows the Julian calendar, which is 13 days behind the more common Gregorian calendar. So, while many countries deck the halls in December, Russians are still preparing their holodets and olivier salad for New Year’s. 🍲

🇷🇺 For Russians, New Year’s Eve takes the spotlight with the big family gatherings and fireworks, but Christmas is more spiritual and traditional, focusing on church services, fasting, and spending time with loved ones. 🕯️🙏

🛷 So, if you missed Christmas in December, here’s your chance to celebrate all over again! Mark your calendars, and get ready to say С Рождеством Христовым! (S Rozhdyestvom Khristovym) 🎉.

🇷🇺 M.M. Bakhtin Days at Mordovia State University  🇷🇺

🗓 November 21 – St. Michael’s Day
🗓 November 21 – World Philosophy Day

🗣In celebration of these significant dates, the students of Group 103 from the Faculty of Philology (China)immersed themselves in M.M. Bakhtin's groundbreaking monograph Problems of Dostoevsky’s Poetics. They explored the text in both Russian and Chinese, embracing Bakhtin's profound ideas on dialogue and communication.

💬 "To be means to communicate dialogically. When dialogue ends, everything ends..."

🔣Who is M.M. Bakhtin?

Mikhail Mikhailovich Bakhtin (1895–1975) was a celebrated Russian philosopher, literary critic, and cultural theorist. Known as one of the most influential thinkers of the 20th century, Bakhtin introduced the concept of dialogism—the idea that meaning emerges through interaction and exchange. His studies on the polyphonic nature of Dostoevsky's novels and the carnival's subversive spirit reshaped how we understand literature, culture, and communication.

Bakhtin’s work transcends disciplines, influencing not only literary theory but also philosophy, linguistics, and cultural studies. His belief in the transformative power of dialogue reminds us of the importance of communication in fostering mutual understanding and

Let’s honor Bakhtin’s legacy and the power of dialogue in shaping our understanding of the world.

🍁 Set Your Week on Fire! 🌿

👋Hey everyone! Monday has arrived, bringing a fresh start and the chance to tackle our goals head-on! As the leaves change and fall, nature reminds us that every season brings renewal. Autumn teaches us to let go of what no longer serves us and focus on growing stronger—just like we can in our studies and personal goals.

👨‍🎓This week, let’s dive into our work with a new perspective. Here are three ways to set yourself up for success:

🗣Set Small Goals: Pick one thing you want to finish by Friday. Whether it’s completing a chapter, revising a paper, or organizing your notes, break it down into doable steps.

🗣Stay Positive: We all face challenges. Instead of letting them weigh you down, view them as steps in your growth. Every setback is a setup for a comeback!

🗣Take Time for You: Balance is key. With all the studying, remember to take breaks, enjoy the season, and recharge your mind.

⚡️Let’s make this week productive, fulfilling, and one step closer to our dreams! 💪

📚 A Yemeni Love for Russian Classics 🇾🇪🇷🇺

👋Meet Ayash Baker, a second-year foreign languages student from Yemen who joined us at Mordovia State University, inspired by friends who had studied here before. Back in Yemen, Ayash was already fascinated by Fyodor Dostoevsky’s work in Arabic and was excited to dive deeper into Russian culture.

🎤 Interview Highlights

🇾🇪 About Yemen

Ayash comes from a country rich in Islamic customs and vibrant traditions. Arabic is the official language, but Yemen also has diverse dialects, much like Russia. Traditional Yemeni cuisine includes flavorful dishes like *mandi* (stewed meat with rice) and *salta* (meat soup with barley). Music and dance play an essential role, featuring unique instruments like the *duff*, *kaman*, and *oud*.

❄️ First Impressions of Russia

Adjusting to the colder climate was challenging, but Ayash grew to love it here. One cultural difference he noticed? People are a bit more reserved than in Yemen. “You can’t just walk up and start chatting with a stranger!” .

📖 Passion for Russian Literature

A fan of Russian literature, Ayash has read *Crime and Punishment* in Arabic and even took part in the international Pushkin’s Poetry in World Languages festival, reciting Pushkin’s *The Prophet* in Arabic. The poem’s philosophical themes left a strong impact on him.

🎓 Advice to International Students

“A person who knows many languages becomes a different person. It opens new opportunities. Always learn the local language—it’s key to understanding culture. And don’t miss classes! Regular attendance is essential to becoming a true professional.”

🇷🇺🇪🇬My Journey to Studying Medicine in Saransk: A Dream Come True 🩺

👋My name is Rezqalla Baher, and I’m from Egypt. I’m currently a 4th-year student at the Medical Institute, studying General Medicine. My journey began in Egypt, where it has always been my dream since childhood to study medicine, pursue development, and continue growing in the field. After finishing high school, I sought advice from friends and was fortunate enough to discover Saransk, a city that has truly been a blessing.

🏢I consider myself incredibly lucky to have found Saransk—a quiet, beautiful, and safe city that has provided the perfect environment for my studies. I highly encourage everyone to share their experiences, as exchanging practical skills and knowledge is essential for growth in education.

🫰From the very first days of my arrival, I felt at home. The international office treated me with kindness and professionalism, and the teachers at the Russian language preparatory faculty offered great support before I started my actual medical studies. I often walked through Saransk’s parks and enjoyed the peacefulness and natural beauty of the city, which I continue to appreciate every day.

🔝One of the highlights of my academic experience has been the support from the doctors and professors. They provide us with an incredible wealth of knowledge, both practical and theoretical, which has truly enriched my learning experience. Their dedication and willingness to share their expertise have made studying here a pleasure, and I am so grateful for their guidance as I continue my studies.

😓 Of course, the journey hasn’t been without its challenges. Adapting to a new culture and adjusting to the rigors of medical school were initial hurdles, and learning the Russian language was particularly tough at first. But with time, I was met with kindness, respect, and help from everyone around me, which made the transition smoother. I gradually adapted to the culture, and over time, I grew to love the Russian language and, even more so, my medical studies.

👍Looking ahead, I am ready to face future goals and challenges with confidence. With the support of the medical team, along with hard work, determination, and the advanced education I’ve received at the Institute of Medicine , I truly believe that anything is possible.

✌️This is just the beginning of an exciting journey, and I’m eager for what the future holds.

🏢A delegation from the Medical Institute of MRSU, led by Director Pavel Skopin and Deputy Director for Digitalization Pavel Zamyshlyaev, took part in the III International Congress of Rosmedobr!

☄️The future is in the hands of our scientists!🏢🔥

🇷🇺A team of Russian biologists has created an innovative system to deliver drugs directly to the kidneys, reducing side effects and boosting treatment efficiency for chronic diseases. The drugs are encapsulated in oil-filled microbeads with a whey protein shell, which is safe for the body. 🩺

🧪The microgel rapidly accumulates in the kidneys after being introduced, as confirmed by successful animal tests. This breakthrough method, developed by scientists from the Skolkovo Institute, Saratov State University, and National Research Mordovia State University, was supported by the Russian Science Foundation (RSF). 🏢

🔬The research, published in *Optical Materials*, used fluorescent dyes to track the drug’s movement, ensuring precision delivery. Early lab results show the gel is non-toxic, even at high concentrations. Next stop? Further clinical studies on targeted treatments!

🏢 On October 16, as part of our "Cultural Exchange Evenings at MRSU," we hosted a mesmerizing tea ceremony that left a lasting impression on everyone who attended! ☕️

🇨🇳Our special guest and tea master, Jax Hong, a talented student from the Institute of Mechanics and Energy, shared his deep knowledge of tea traditions. Participants had the chance to witness the art of tea-making and enjoy the delicate flavors of this wonderful oriental beverage.

🏮The tea ceremony is not just about brewing tea—it's a true art filled with philosophy, mindfulness, and respect for every detail. We learned about different tea varieties, their unique aromas and tastes, and how to properly conduct a tea ceremony.

🫰Thanks to all who joined and made this evening unforgettable! We can't wait to see you at our next events! 😊
