A brief intro to the book:

❝When trials get tough, people fall into depression, anxiety, and other mental illnesses. Depression, anxiety, worry, grief, etc. all have a tremendous impact on a person’s life, social behavior, performance, quality of life, health, etc. In other religions, they have no remedy to cope with the situation in the face of difficulties. Other religions simply do not offer any solution. So, when people feel empty and directionless, some opt for consuming alcohol or other intoxicants to cope with this, some live a life of drugs and illegal sex to look for a way out, and some just end up committing suicide when they feel the pain and suffering are unbearable. All these do nothing except harms a person in this world and the Hereafter. Depression, anxiety, and other mental illnesses are some of the tools of Shaitaan.

Since Shaitaan is our enemy, so the cure has to be Divine. In Islaam, when faced with difficulties, we are taught to seek Allaah’s help through patience and prayers. Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught many Divine supplications to cope with the situation when affairs get difficult. He ﷺ was given the gift of Jawaami al-Kalim (expressing much in a few words), as the Prophet ﷺ said: ❝I have been given Jawaami al-Kalim❞ (i.e., words which are concise but comprehensive in meaning). The book deals with explaining some of these supplications to help one understand their meaning and what they imply, which, by Allaah’s permission, will give them strength in the face of difficulties.❞

We are pleased to announce that Masjid an-Nawawi has officially changed its name to Masjid Daar al-Hadeeth as part of our ongoing development and vision for the masjid.

🔍 Clarifications Regarding the Name Change
1. Honoring Imam an-Nawawi رحمه الله
This change is not due to the unfounded claim that Imam an-Nawawi was a deviant.

2. Inclusivity and Avoiding Misconceptions
The new name reflects a vision of inclusivity for all Muslims, free from assumptions or sectarianism. Naming the masjid after an individual, no matter how esteemed, may unintentionally lead to fanatical attachments or perceived exclusivity. Daar al-Hadeeth emphasises our commitment to the teachings of the Qur’an and Sunnah, making the masjid a welcoming space for all.

3. Following the Prophetic Example
Changing a good name to something even better is in line with the Sunnah of the Prophet ﷺ, who made similar adjustments for the greater benefit. While Masjid an-Nawawi has served us well for over three years, we believe this transition aligns with our mission.

The scholars, the heirs of the Prophets, have warned and cautioned against seeking knowledge and benefiting from unqualified sources, particularly those who rose to fame solely through social media, without any genuine connection to authentic scholarly traditions.

Many people in the 2010s dismissed these warnings and labeled those who spoke out as "extremists" and "too harsh".

Now these same people are witnessing the consequences of their negligence, and it's only the tip of the iceberg.

❌ Warning Against Celebrating Halloween ❌

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

To proceed:

1️⃣ Halloween has pagan origins that date back to the ‘Samhain’ festival, celebrated on October 31 each year in Celtic culture. Over time, these pagan traditions blended with Christian practices, forming what we now know as All Hallows’ Eve (Halloween).

2️⃣ It is believed that on Halloween, evil spirits and ghosts roam the earth as the barrier between the human and spirit worlds becomes thin. To protect themselves from these spirits, people engage in various rituals:

Costume Wearing: People wear frightening costumes to disguise themselves, supposedly making the spirits think they are one of them, thus avoiding harm.

Pumpkin Carving: Pumpkins are hollowed out, carved with scary faces, and a candle is placed inside. This tradition is believed to ward off evil spirits.

Trick-or-Treating: Children dress up and go door-to-door collecting candy. This activity is rooted in the idea of offering food to appease or satisfy the spirits.

3️⃣ Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah mentioned in his book “Iqtida’ al-Sirat al-Mustaqim” that there is a consensus among scholars that attending the holidays of non-Muslims is forbidden.

4️⃣ Additionally, giving a gift on this day is seen as cooperating with them in sin and transgression, thus acknowledging this un-Islamic celebration, which is forbidden. Congratulating them on such occasions is unanimously considered impermissible, so gifting is even more objectionable.

5️⃣ Selling items that help non-Muslims celebrate their holidays is prohibited for Muslims, as it falls under cooperation in sin and transgression. Allah Almighty says, “And cooperate in righteousness and piety, but do not cooperate in sin and aggression.” [Al-Ma’idah: 2]. Such occasions are prohibited due to the serious issue that they relate to matters of disbelief.

From the Qualities of the Slaves of Ar-Rahman - Shaykh Abdur-Razzaaq al-Badr حفظه الله

الصفة الثالثة : خوفهم وإشفاقهم من عذاب النَّار

The Third Quality: Their Great Fear of the Punishment of the Hellfire

قال عز وجل : [وَالَّذِينَ يَقُولُونَ رَبَّنَا اصْرِفْ عَنَّا عَذَابَ جَهَنَّمَ ۖ إِنَّ عَذَابَهَا كَانَ غَرَامًا * إِنَّهَا سَاءَتْ مُسْتَقَرًّا وَمُقَامًا ] ـ

Allah said:

وَالَّذِينَ يَقُولُونَ رَبَّنَا اصْرِفْ عَنَّا عَذَابَ جَهَنَّمَ ۖ إِنَّ عَذَابَهَا كَانَ غَرَامًا * إِنَّهَا سَاءَتْ مُسْتَقَرًّا وَمُقَامًا

And those who say, “Our Lord, avert the punishment of Hell away from us. Indeed, Its torment is an inseparable, permanent punishment. * How evil it is as an abode and as a place to dwell. [25:65-66]

فعباد الرحمن مع إحسانهم بالعمل والتعبد لله ، قد خافوا ووجلوا من عذاب الله وسخطه وهذه حال المؤمنين الكمل؛ كما قال الله : [ وَالَّذِينَ يُؤْتُونَ مَا آتَوا وَّقُلُوبُهُمْ وَجِلَةٌ أَنَّهُمْ إِلَىٰ رَبِّهِمْ رَاجِعُونَ ] أي: يقدِّمون ما يقدِّمونه من عباداتٍ وطاعاتٍ وقلوبهم خائفةٌ أن ترد عليهم أعمالهم، فيصيبهم بعد ذلك عذابٌ من الله . ـ

Despite the goodness that they have in their actions and seeking to draw closer to Allah, the ‘ibad al-Rahman – the slave of the Most Merciful – feel great fear and apprehension about Allah’s punishment and displeasure. This is the way of the complete believer. It is just as Allah has said:

وَالَّذِينَ يُؤْتُونَ مَا آتَوا وَّقُلُوبُهُمْ وَجِلَةٌ أَنَّهُمْ إِلَىٰ رَبِّهِمْ رَاجِعُونَ

And they who give what they give while their hearts are fearful because they will be returning to their Lord [23:60]

Meaning: they send forth whatever acts of worship and obedience they send forth while their hearts are fearful that their deeds will be rejected and as a result they will end up being afflicted by punishment from Allah.

فهذا صفة عظيمة من صفات عباد الرحمن ؛ أنهم يحسنون في أعمالهم ، وفي الوقت نفسه يشفقون أن لا تقبل منهم . ـ

This is one of the amazing qualities of the ‘Ibad al-Rahman – that make excellent work with their deeds while at the same time they fear that these deeds will not be accepted from them.

From the Qualities of the Slaves of Ar-Rahman - Shaykh Abdur-Razzaaq al-Badr حفظه الله

ومن صفات عباد الرحمن الظاهرة محافظتهم على أداء الصلاة التي هي أعظم الأعمال البدنية، فرضًا و نفلًا، لاسيما صلاة الليل، فإنها سنةٌ مؤكدة عن رسول الله وجاء في فضْل المحافظة عليها أحاديث عديدة، ولهذا جاء التنصيص عليها في الآية السابقة أنها منْ صفات عباد الرحمن. ـ

One of the visible characteristics of the ‘ibad al-Rahman – the slaves of the Most Merciful – is their steadfast observance of the prayers, which are the greatest form of bodily worship. They faithfully perform both the obligatory and optional prayers, especially the night prayers which are an especially emphasized sunnah of Allah’s Messenger. There are many hadith narrations regarding the virtue of faithfully observing the night prayers, and in this ayah there is an explicit mention that this is one of the characteristics of the ‘ibad al-Rahman.

ومما ورد في فضْل قيام الليل قوله : أفضل الصلاة بعد الفريضة : صلاة الليل . ـ

Among those texts regarding the virtue of the night prayers is the Prophet’s statement, “After the obligatory prayers, the best prayer is the night prayer.”

وقال : عليكم بقيام الليل ؛ فإنه دأب الصالحين قبلكم ، وهو قربة إلى ربكم ومكفرة للسيئات ومنها للإثم . ـ

He also said, “Hold fast to the night prayers, for it was the practice of the righteous people before you and it is a form of drawing close to your Lord, an expiation of bad deeds, and a prevention against sins.”

من صفات عباد الرحمن وجميل نعوتهم : تواضعهم لله ولعباده، فيمشون بسكينةٍ وطمأنينة ووقار، وهذا التواضع الذي ظهر على مشيهم وهيئتهم إنما هو ثمرةٌ من ثمار الإيمان، وأثرٌ من آثاره. ـ

One of the characteristics and beautiful traits of the ‘Ibad al-Rahman – servants of the Most Merciful – is their humility towards Allah and His slaves, such that they go about with composure, calmness and dignity. But this the humility which is plain to see from the way they walk and outwardly appear is actually one of the fruits and effects of eemaan.

📕 Occupying Oneself with Activity or Useful Knowledge

Among the means to ward off anxieties and the preoccupation of the heart with sorrow is to occupy oneself with one activity or another, or with some useful knowledge ('ilm). This is because doing that will distract the heart away from being immersed in its anxieties. It may even help him forget the things that caused him grief and worry, and he may even experience some happiness and become cheerful.

This is also something that is common between both the believer and the non-believer. But the believer is different; because when he occupies himself with the knowledge that he is seeking or giving, or with the good action he is doing - whether it be an act of worship or a worldly act where his intention is to seek strength in worshipping Allah - when he does that, he does it out of his belief in Allah, sincerity and seeking the pleasure of Allah. This in itself has the additional effect of warding off grief, worries and anxieties [by a Divine intervention].
