The Worship of Money Takes You to Strange Places

I see a lot of marketing out there.

If the past generations were afraid for selling their Dīn for money, I see the current one having not only embraced it, but brought it to a science.

This includes some who are bona fide scholars & Shaykhs of Ṭāriqah who have something substantial they are now trying to sell.

They are like an atol surrounded by a gang of fakers selling "courses, coaching, masterclasses & ijāzas."

The fatal flaw in the reasoning of the public is that somehow if you pay money, you get something of a better quality.

The greatest gifts that we were all given by the Lord were all free.

It is true, that you get out of things what you put into them, however not everything is a consumer good.

We received the Qur'ān for free.

Do you think you're going to receive its gifts more by exerting yourself harder and memorizing, reading, understanding, and acting on it?

Or by buying a more expensive course, Muṣḥaf with different colors, some kind of a pen, a premium app and lessons with the swankiest and most charismatic teachers?

We start the reading and explanation of the classic work al-Murshid al-Muʿīn of Shaykh ʿabd al-Wāḥid bin ʿĀshir, a nearly ubiquitously present and taught text amongst the countries of the world in which the Mālikī school is ascendant.

We speak a little bit about the benefit and utility of memorization, it's relation to text that are versified, and what the point of learning the sciences of Islam is in the first place.

Thereafter we have a discussion regarding the importance and authority of Mālik amongst the scholars of the early generations, as well as mentioning Abū al-Ḥasan al-'Ashʿarī and Junayd al-Baghdādī.

Iraq and Afghanistan veteran and anti-war activist Matt Hoh describes his disgust at seeing Israeli children being bussed over to a vista point to see the destruction of Ghazzah live, pumping their fists and enjoying the genocide.

The ranking status of ʿUmar in this Ummah is very celebrated, but not very understood.

Most people like him because of his bold and forthright style, and because in him unites strength and goodness and a time when they seem to have separated.

However, very few people have pondered deeply over the nature of his intelligence and spiritual insight.

We go through an in-depth discussion on this topic using the case study of the Sunnah of when plagues strike a land.

Thereafter we have a thoroughly engaging discussion about the nature of sorcery and its harms.

After an extremely short honeymoon, the exuberance of punishing the democrats for genocide is rapidly coming to a close. The new president elect has chosen a colorful band of characters to form his cabinet, to put it mildly.

Join us for a discussion about the highlights of the proposed cabinet picks, as well as what that might mean for us as Americans, Muslims, and stakeholders in this turbulent world.

If you found this content useful please support our work at ribat.org/donate where we disseminate prophetically mandated knowledge at no cost to the public, as well as help spiritually responsible people make sense and find their way in this life, by contextualizing traditional knowledge in a confusing world.

For those wondering why yesterday's Mālikī Fiqh live stream wasn't posted, I had a very long day and the lesson had many points that were a little complicated.

I wasn't satisfied with how clearly they were expounded upon, so I decided not to post the lesson, and come back later and re-record them.

Here it is, broken into two parts for those who wish to review them.

Two burials today at the graveyard.

The one on the right was a great scholar who lived a life of service, and his adult sons and son-in-law went into the grave and straightened him facing the Qiblah, while the students of knowledge and the righteous prayed for his forgiveness and elevation and rank.

The one on the left was a small baby. The only one mourner was who I assume was the father, crying with bloodshot eyes praying by the grave side. I walked over and was the second with him, embracing him for a moment.

Two different ends, both of which we pray are good.

As for myself, I have nothing to look forward to or hope for other than Allāh Ta'ālā being Who He is.

The Most Merciful of the Merciful, may He have mercy on us all.

This Veteran's Day holiday warranted the sharing of a particularly interesting, frightening, but ultimately inspiring story along with our normal lesson.

Prophetic guidance about

-weapon safety

-the detestability of leaving the Masjid after the Adhān is called

-the detestability of turning down perfume

-the detestability of excessive praise to someone in their face, and when it's appropriate and not appropriate to praise a person

-Veteran's Day: Ribāṭ salutes a real American hero

For most of my life the idea of buying an expensive piece of luggage seemed dumb to me.

Why should I pay more money to transport my things than the things themselves are worth?

The first time I recall actually spending a substantial amount of money on a piece of luggage was in 2016, where I spent a little less than $100 at Costco (which is still relatively modest compared to how much hand carries sell for, for battle hardened road warriors).

It seemed very nice and functional, and carried a lifetime warranty. I asked the Costco people what the lifetime warranty meant and they said the warranty was for a reasonable amount of time, like 7 or 10 years, so I thought I travel a lot, why not?

It's been a much better back than the weird pieces I've lugged around over the years.

The first trip I took it on was to travel to Hong Kong to teach the Ṭaḥawiyyah.

Now as I'm boarding my flight home from North Carolina teaching Remedial Taṣawwuf, after taking scratches, slashes, broken zippers and other minor damage, the handle finally broke.

I ask Allāh Ta'ālā to make my life in this world mirror that of my bag from His Faḍl by His grace.

There's background with this organization more than what's written on the billboard, which can be charitably interpreted, when context is not there. But if you go to their website or listen to any of their material they pump out, or have experience with their speakers coming to Islamic schools, or other institutions, you will see that what they mean by their messaging is not something acceptable.

HEART, a local Chicago organization that infringes on Muslim cultural identity in a way that is completely devoid & uncommitted to any sort of observation of the sacred law or creed of Islām put up this monstrosity on a billboard.

The message is tantamount to disbelief.

The slave doesn't forge his or her own life journey, including "reproductive decisions," but hears & obeys.

Using the Divine name in order to ape postmodern liberal talking points is the epitome of cringe, & should be a source of annoyance for all believers.

Yet these people doing the devil's work, are afforded legitimacy & platform in a number of local & national Muslim organizations.

This type of propaganda is also a type of sexual abuse that should be denounced just like that of other abusers who have breached trust with the community in the past.

We take our institutional degree courses, and corporate jobs so seriously and give them so much priority despite the fact that we know if we were ever in a situation where we didn't earn substantially more money for our masters than what they pay us, they would ditch us like a bad habit.

So why is it that those who we care for the most and those who care for us the most, we treat them as a second priority or as an at will or even retail level of relationship?

If you want others to be there for you, you should also be there for them.

Thoma will be there for you even after the sun, moon and stars are snuffed out. If one of us makes it then the one who makes it takes their brother by the hand and we all make it.

My Statement About Most Statements About Horrific Abuse in the Name of Teaching Islam

There was apparently a man who once found an injured squirrel and nursed it back to health.

He then made a viral post about it on social media. The squirrel was the picture of lovability.

That post caught the attention of the authorities, who then proceeded to SWAT team his house, abduct the squirrel and kill it.

Somehow a political candidate manage to express sympathy for the squirrel and its master, it's such a way to conflate himself with that squirrel, and his rival candidate with those who killed it.

He proceeded to win the election.

I'm against killing the squirrel.

I marvel at how the candidate managed to somehow make it about them and their own agenda.

May all abuse victims receive justice, may all accused receive due process, may all guilty parties be punished and may all candidates try not to make everything about their own little politics, and if they can't, may the public not be so quick to drink Kool-Aide.

*Political candidates come in the form of scholars, mental health providers, "community leaders," activists & other people with other issues

**There were a few posts that were dead on the money like Joe Bradford .

For the rest of you, don't be upset at me for saying what I said. Rather, like the Russian fairy tale Cinderella, if the shoe fits, wear it...
