➡️ This is concerning as it could suppress private sector spending and weigh on economic growth.

➡️ The government expects to bring its total subsidy bill down by 14.4 per cent to 52.6 billion ringgit in 2025 in the first full year of revised electricity and diesel prices, after subsidies for the two items were slashed earlier this year.
➡️ Besides slashing subsidies, the government will look to grow its revenue through a review of the sales and services tax.

➡️ To combat the crisis, a recalibrated approach to the economics of water should be considered to repair the “misaligned policies” that currently exist.
➡️ These include exploring the merits of water trading further through regulated markets and valuing water more as natural capital, as well as addressing the underinvestment in water systems and redirection of harmful subsidies in the water sector that can lead to water overexploitation and wastage.

➡️ As a heavily trade-reliant economy, Singapore uses a unique method of managing monetary policy, tweaking the exchange rate of its dollar against a basket of currencies instead of domestic interest rates like most other countries.
➡️ However, geopolitics and trade conflicts are concerns that the MAS has an opportunity to address by loosening its policy at the next review in January.
