World Wetlands Day 2025: Protecting wetlands for our common future

Every year, on the 2nd of February, we celebrate World Wetlands Day (WWD) to raise global awareness about the high importance of wetlands for people and our planet. WWD is also an occasion to commemorate the signing of the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands in the Iranian city of Ramsar in 1971.

“Protecting wetlands for our common future“, the theme for WWD 2025, emphasizes the connection between wetland conservation and a sustainable future, highlighting the importance of these threatened ecosystems in maintaining ecological balance and supporting biodiversity.

International Mountain Day 2024

“Mountain solutions for a sustainable future – innovation, adaptation and youth” is the theme of this year's International Mountain Day on 11 December.

Over centuries, mountain communities have developed solutions to adapt to their harsh environments, deal with climate change, reduce poverty and protect or restore biodiversity and ecosystems in mountain regions. International Mountain Day 2024 aims to focus on innovative solutions, fostering adaptation strategies and empowering youth for a sustainable future.
Innovation is essential for addressing complex mountain-related issues. It encompasses technological advancements, such as digital solutions for monitoring and conservation, as well as creative problem-solving such as climate-smart agriculture and novel approaches to livelihoods, resource management and financing.

INTERNATIONAL CHEETAH DAY

Every year on December 4th, International Cheetah Day encourages people worldwide to help this animal win the race against extinction.
The cheetah is well-known as the fastest animal on earth. This amazing animal can reach a top speed of 70 mph in just three seconds! At top speed, their stride spans 21 feet. The cheetah is a big, slender cat with long legs. Its short fur is yellowish-tan and covered in thousands of black spots. Most cheetahs have between 2,000 and 3,000 spots, which helps to camouflage themselves. The animal's name comes from the Hindi word, “chita,” which means “spotted one.” These big cats weigh anywhere from 46 to 158 pounds.

World Children’s Day

World Children’s Day was first established in 1954 as Universal Children's Day and is celebrated on 20 November each year to promote international togetherness, awareness among children worldwide, and improving children's welfare.

International E-Waste Day

E-waste is made up of electronic products that are old, broken or have come to the end of their usefulness.
Televisions, computers, tape players, printers, VCRs, game consoles and so many other electronics items are often left sitting in someone’s basement or garage for years to come or, even worse, thrown into a landfill.
As the most rapidly growing problem of waste in the world, e-waste is responsible for approximately 50 million tons or more of waste each year. Sadly, less than 20% of this e-waste is documented, recycled and disposed of in an appropriate manner.
International E-Waste Day is here to get everyone on board with tackling this global problem through recycling along with appropriate disposal tactics.

World Teachers’ Day

Valuing teacher voices: towards a new social contract for education

Overworked, undervalued, and underpaid, more and more teachers are leaving the profession they love and that the world needs. At the same time, few young people aspire to become teachers. The result is a global shortage of over 44 million teachers, a crisis that puts the right to education at risk. This has prompted a global call to strengthen the profession.
This World Teachers’ Day highlights the need to establish a more robust social dialogue with teachers everywhere. World Animal Day
