If there is one thing I would love the UK public to be aware of it's how our laws are bought and paid for and made. I would dearly love everyone to start kicking up a stink about lobbying ALL THE TIME, and also refuse to go along with secondary legislation made by the executive

These things, along with jury trials, are what I spoke about at UK Column's Bristol event. It was a great day and I learned loads from all the other speakers

UK Column have now put all the speakers on their Twitter account, individually, and you can access each talk for free

Here's mine below. The other talks are also on the X feed of UK Column, which you can access from the below

With thanks to the UK Column team for putting these talks up. I think everyone will find all of them really informative

The Original Corporate Raiders

On this day 424 years ago , 31st of December 1600AD, Queen Elizabeth I granted the British East India Company a monopoly on all trade to the East Indies. This may come as a surprise to some.
The British East India Company is often erroneously viewed as a Victorian phenomenon. The reality is that its charter was granted by Queen Elizabeth I, centuries before Queen Victoria, as any mainstream historian will confirm.

This marks a turning point in history. After the Crusades, the Renaissance, and the decline of Venice, England would now start to overtake France and Spain to became the dominant power in Europe and eventually the world. The East India Company’s role in England’s rise cannot be understated. The modern era of history can be said to begin with the East India Company.

The following is a nice write up by William Dalrymple from 2015, apologies in advance for the Guardian link.

https://amp.theguardian.com/world/2015/mar/04/east-india-company-original-corporate-raiders

Dalrymple is a good historian and relatively fair minded in his analysis of colonialism. He has devoted his life for the past two decades to writing books on the East India Company and India in general. They are all recommended reading.

However as expected, he does not connect all the dots. Dalrymple in his Empire podcast does mention that the Venice Company (founded 1583) and Turkey Company merged to form the Levant Company. And he discusses the role of the opium.
But he does not mention the Venetian bankers involved in all these companies as well as the East India Companies (both British and Dutch). Nor does he go into the Jewish bankers involved.

[n.b. Whether one believes in the British/Anglo-American clique being the dominant force in geopolitics, or the Zionists/Talmudic Jews, or the Vatican/Jesuits, all of them intersect at the East India Company. It must be studied in depth. No understanding of modern politics, banking, the drug trade, Big Pharma, colonialism, or schooling, is complete without it. Many of our major banks, several major political families , and many famous highly regarded “intellectuals”, all made their starts selling opium for the EIC.]
