Happy & Blessed Monday Friends!

On this day in 2017, we adopted our sweet Sammy! 🐾💙

Time goes so fast. Where have the eight years gone?! Just the other day he had his brown markings around his eyes and now, the colors turning white.

Thankfully, he's full of spunk, energy, vigor and healthy. He's so excited for life, especially his walks.

We are beyond grateful for Sammy coming into our lives, for the amazing adventures he gets to join us in, for snuggles, for fun, for everything!

Life is better with a dog!

Happy Forever Home Day to our precious Sammy! 🥳

We took a little pause due to Ray catching a bug. He's recovered now and hopefully we'll be back out on more adventures, working the homestead and more.

This pause set us back from prepping for our maple season. We've discussed skipping this year in hopes of focusing on building our sugar shack now for next year. I can say I'm a little bummed but we're still tapping a tree to drink up the delicious and nourishing sap water that flows. If we decide differently, which is always possible, I'll then share our maple activities.

Some of the pictures I've posted are from our last nature walk before nestling in to heal. Ray, Sammy and myself are looking forward to getting out again, exploring, taking in the beauty and enjoying quality time with each other.

I pray you all are doing well, enjoying your winter activities and living an abundant life!

Chicken Update🐔

As the days become longer, the girls are awakening from a winter slow down. Three are laying more, all are more active (captured in the video) and an increased appetite. Happy hens! 🤍

It's a winter wonderland on The VanDeWater Homestead at Liberty Hill Farm! ❄️💙

We awoke this morning to nine inches of fluffy snow. We have not had this much snowfall in one storm in years. Sammy was a bit shocked and unsure. The snow swallowed him up. 😄

In the past few years, I've never had to clean up the snow around the chicken coop, so much that I had to shovel a path up from the house for easier travel. Thankfully, light and fluffy!

After cleanup, I hiked through the snow up the hill to check out the winter scenes. There's a stillness, peacefulness, quiet that arrives after snowfall. I'm definitely a summer gal but grateful for the experience of winter, it sure is beautiful! ☃️

Happy & Blessed Wednesday Friends!

Before the cold temperatures arrived, we headed out for a walk along the Battenkill River in Vermont.

As we walked through the field, I spotted an eagle up in a tree. Then, noticed another one flying over the river and fields. Such grandeur and splendor.

Here's the uniqueness of this moment. Just recently on a hike at the park across from our home, we encountered two eagles. They were sitting in a tree and we watched them take off, flying over the lake. Then, we had this encounter with two eagles again.

Eagles are known in our area, sightings are common but two eagles on two occasions, very neat!

Eagles represent strength, liberty, truth, honor, rebirth...so spectacular to have these encounters. As if God was sending us a private personal message! 🦅

"But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint"

When ice fishing the other day, I walked Sammy to the shoreline to do his business and discovered this waterfall. I love the sound of moving waters. So soothing and therapeutic. I stood there, as long as Sammy would allow 😁, closed my eyes and focused on the sound. Then, I headed back to get my phone so you all could enjoy too. 😃💙

With bait left over from our last fishless ice fishing expedition, we decided to try again. For us, any time together out in creation is a bonus!

We had success and caught smelt, trout and perch before noon. The fish were too small for dinner but we still had a blast. Lots more flags throughout the day but no fish, just teasers!

With the cold temperatures coming this week, we're excited to head out and try again.

Some ice fisherman were setting up for an overnight as we were leaving, looked adventurous, we may have to try sometime!

Making memories, laughing, enjoying life is truly living. My prayer for you, my friends, whatever you are facing that there be moments of fun and joy.
