πŸ”΄ A new study published in the UK’s Lancet medical journal estimates that #Gaza's death toll during the first nine months of the war was about 40% higher than figures reported by the Palestinian Health Ministry.

The researchers sought to assess the death toll from Israel’s air and ground campaign in Gaza between October 2023 and the end of June 2024, estimating 64,260 deaths due to traumatic injury during this period.

The majority of the 64,260 deaths (59%) were women, children and elderly people.

The peer-reviewed statistical analysis published in The Lancet journal on Thursday was conducted by academics at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, Yale University and other institutions.

On 7th January, criminals set fire to two popular Muslim-owned cafes, "Halol" and "Samarkand", in the Ramenskoye district of the Moscow region. The attackers recorded their actions on video and posted it on the Internet.

The attackers wore masks, broke the windows of the cafes, threw Molotov cocktails inside and started a fire. The criminals fled after the incident.

The cafes are located at the entrance to the village of Kuntsevo and were popular with visitors.

Former Australian hostage Timothy Weeks, who converted to #Islam, has passed away from cancer in Kabul on Wednesday.

Timothy Weeks, a 54-year-old English language teacher from Australia, spent three and a half years in Taliban captivity in #Afghanistan.

The Australian academic had been a lecturer at the American University in Kabul in 2016 when taken hostage by the Taliban. He was held hostage for three years before being released in a prisoner swap in 2019.

After his release, the Australian teacher converted to Islam, changed his name to Jibra’il Omar, and has previously praised the work of the Taliban.

In August 2022, he returned to Afghanistan to complete his journey:

β€œI first came to Afghanistan six years ago as you know, in 2016, and I came here with a dream to learn about Afghanistan. Now I'm coming again to complete my journey. I'm also coming to celebrate the one-year anniversary of the government of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan who I have stood behind.”

The mother of Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya, the well-known director of Kamal Adwan Hospital in northern #Gaza, who was forcibly detained by Israeli forces in December 2023, has died of a heart attack. Heartbroken by her son’s enforced disappearance by Israel.

Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya was abducted on December 27, 2024 when Israeli forces stormed the Kamal Adwan Hospital. All medical staff, patients and their relatives were taken out at gunpoint and transferred to an unknown location.

The last photo of Dr Hussam showed him walking alone towards a row of Israeli tanks that had amassed outside the hospital.

The Lebanese government has decided to extradite Egyptian poet and activist Abdul Rahman al-Qaradawi to the United Arab Emirates (UAE), despite warnings he would be at real risk of enforced disappearance, torture and other ill-treatment, and unfair trial leading to prolonged imprisonment.

Abdul Rahman, also a citizen of the Republic of Turkey, was detained on 28th December at the Lebanese border while returning from #Syria, where he had travelled to celebrate the downfall of the Assad regime.

Abdul Rahman filmed himself in Damascus criticising the authorities of the UAE, Egypt and Saudi Arabia.

Abdul Rahman is the son of the late Sheikh Yusuf Al-Qaradawi.

Sheikh Usamah al-Rifaβ€˜i stood by the revolution from the beginning. He played a prominent role in confronting the Assad regime and its militias and embracing the demonstrators in the Abdul Karim al-Rifai Mosque.

At dawn on August 27th, 2011, which coincided with the 27th night of Ramadan, many security personnel and the shabiha of the Assad regime attacked the Sheikh Abdul Karim al-Rifai mosque during the Tahajjud prayer and beat the worshippers.

Sheikh Usamah was severely beaten, after which he was hospitalised.

Today marks 30 years (31st December 1994) since the Russian Army's invasion and subsequent conquest of the Chechen capital, Grozny, during the early months of the First Chechen War.

Russian troops began bombing Grozny and sent four armoured columns toward the city's centre. The initial street battles ended with thousands of Russian and Chechen casualties, and the destruction of hundreds of Russian fighting vehicles. The Russians retreated, but then mounted a second assault on January 4.

The attack lasted from December 1994 to March 1995, which resulted in the military occupation of the city by the Russian Army.

The battle caused enormous destruction and casualties amongst the civilians and saw the heaviest bombing campaign in Europe since the end of World War II.

The Saudi authorities have released renowned scholar and Muhaddith, Sheikh Saleh al-Shami (89).

Sheikh Saleh al-Shami was detained in January 2023 without direct charge against him, except that his son received a financial remittance from his brother residing in Spain, which led to the subsequent arrest of Sheikh Saleh and his son Tahseen.

Sheikh Saleh is a well known Syrian scholar, hadith expert, preacher, and authored many books. From Douma town in Damascus, he’s been residing in Saudi Arabia for 43 years, during which he taught Shariah sciences in the Imam Muhammad bin Saud Islamic University.

Many of us wish to move on from Gaza, many of us already did. Many of us stopped talking about Gaza because its "too negative" or stopped sharing and following up on the situation because we're "fed up" and don't want to irritate others with more unpopular news. I wish I can move on and I have been very guilty for not doing much but how are you and I going to face Allah on the day of judgement? Honestly, think about it.

This is an obligation upon each one of us to help and therefore we are sinful if we are not. There is no excuse to blame others (including those who are in power) when we are not doing our part ourselves, neither is it justified to say what is my "small efforts" going to do anyways? The same effort you are putting in your business, work and livelihoods can be put for Palestine and I am sure the results will be greater.

The Prophet (pbuh) said do not belittle any good action, neither are we accountable for the results of our actions but rather we are for the action itself. There are those who are saying we can't speak out out of fear of losing our jobs, if the people of Palestine are sacrificing their lives to defend Masjid Al Aqsa on behalf of the ummah, surely we can sacrifice what is much more insignificant.

Let us keep remembering Gaza and Masjid Al Aqsa, let us keep praying and working until Palestine is free.
