lots of talk on timeline lately about profit taking/losing unrealised pnl and each with their own take on it

my take on this is simple, after a few years of trading, volatile pnl swings, journaling everything, and looking back i now know that for me, unless i am able to mentally write off a bag and totally disconnect from its value (for long term bags/ideas), i have two ways i look at profit taking;
1) you either take profits incrementally over time as your bags go higher, increasing selling as it gets more and more ridiculous
2) you wait for the market structure to totally flip on higher timeframes where you clearly see a trend shift and sell there, which means, in most cases, a decent haircut to peak pnl

i feel like 1 works very well on shitcoins and/or leveraged positions, while 2 is good for core holdings of majors and longer-term bags

ofc, the thing with taking profit is that in this space, which is so overleveraged at all times, with massive returns without any leverage even, its easy to open twitter and feel you are underexposed no matter what, and that taking any profit whatsoever is a mistake
in a perfect world, you want to buy a bottom and sell a top, but almost nobody will ride a full-swing move with 100% size from pico bottom to pico top, basically, it is so impossibly rare that it just pretty much doesnt exist for all practical purposes

remember that unrealised profit is not profit until you realise it and cash it out, its just not real and not yours

i think everyone who never has, should try cashing some profits out, directly to your bank, even if its just to deposit it all back to an exchange later, just to see how it feels, i assure you, if youve never done this, itll feel amazing, its the only way to make this fugazi thing we call a job feel like a real income source
it might even change your perspective and pov on trading and profits as a whole, i know it has for me

"one of the most helpful things that anybody can learn is to give up trying to catch the last eighth or the first. these two are the most expensive eighths in the world. they have cost stock traders, in the aggregate, enough millions of dollars to build a concrete highway across the continent."
