How to create good habits using the 4 Laws of Behavior change

Caduceusly yours

19 Dec, 13:43

Some key takeaways i have learnt while reading "Atomic Habits":

* Tiny Changes, Remarkable Results: Small, consistent improvements compound over time, leading to significant changes.
* The 4 Laws of Behavior Change:
* Make it Obvious: Design your environment to make good habits easy and bad habits hard.
* Make it Attractive: Make good habits desirable and appealing.
* Make it Easy: Reduce friction and make it easy to start good habits.
* Make it Satisfying: Reward yourself for good habits to reinforce them.
* Identity-Based Habits: Focus on changing your identity, not just your habits. When you believe you are a certain type of person, your actions will naturally align with that identity.
* The Plateau of Latent Potential: Don't get discouraged by periods of little visible progress. Keep working on your habits, and eventually, you'll break through plateaus.
* Habit Stacking: Tie a new habit to an existing one to make it easier to implement.
* The Two-Minute Rule: Start new habits by making them as easy as possible, ideally taking only two minutes to complete.
* The Importance of Environment: Your environment plays a crucial role in shaping your habits. Design your environment to support your goals.
* The Power of Delayed Gratification: Prioritize long-term rewards over short-term pleasures.

Small efforts that we do every day add up to break the threshold of visible results. Keep showing up!❀️

We often expect progress to be linear, At the very
least, we hope it will come quickly. In reality, the results of our
efforts are often delayed. It is not until months or years later
that we realize the true value of the previous work we have
done, This can result in a "valley of disappointment" where people feel discouraged after putting in weeks or months of hard
work without experiencing any results. However, this work was
not wasted. It was simply being stored. It is not until much later
that the full value of previous efforts is revealed

Regarding the review of grand tests:

It would be beneficial to administer grand tests bi-weekly. A weekly schedule might be impractical, except perhaps for subject-specific assessments.

It is suggested that grand tests be administered on weekends, with review ideally completed the same day, following a short break. Incorporate any unstudied material into the review process, and analyze both strengths and weaknesses in different subjects.

Should some subjects require additional review time before a grand test, prioritize those areas before the next test. This approach should reveal a gradual improvement in scores.

Finally, review the grand test questions within the following week.

How to concise notes?

The plan here is simple. You have to prepare shortened notes for every subject that you have studied till now. For that, your primary read and notes should be rock solid and topped with PYQ and Q bank points. Once you feel confident that you have successfully compiled the main resource for a subject, on your second read find points which you find harder to remember. Skip the concepts that you have a flair over and concentrate on stuff that you easily forget.

This has to be personalised according to you. No one can prepare this except for you.

For every subject, you can try this exercise and before every GT, atleast revise these shortened versions of your notes.

In my case, i went for a different approach. As I was fairly well versed with the notes i had made and after highlighting the important points and PYT, i was able to revise the main notes in a shorter way. This approach is only valid if you have made these notes through out your MBBS and find them easy to go through.

Instead, i made pdfs of PYTs of every subject as I wanted a space only for those.
