sukha-duḥkhe same kṛitvā lābhālābhau jayājayau
tato yuddhāya yujyasva naivaṁ pāpam avāpsyasi
सुखदु:खे समे कृत्वा लाभालाभौ जयाजयौ |
ततो युद्धाय युज्यस्व नैवं पापमवाप्स्यसि ||
tato yuddhāya yujyasva naivaṁ pāpam avāpsyasi
सुखदु:खे समे कृत्वा लाभालाभौ जयाजयौ |
ततो युद्धाय युज्यस्व नैवं पापमवाप्स्यसि ||
ते तं भुक्त्वा स्वर्गलोकं विशालं-
क्षीणे पुण्ये मत्र्यलोकं विशन्ति।
एवं त्रयीधर्ममनुप्रपन्ना-
गतागतं कामकामा लभन्ते॥ २१॥
वे उस विशाल स्वर्गलोकके (भोगोंको) भोगकर पुण्य क्षीण होनेपर मृत्युलोकमें आ जाते हैं। इस प्रकार तीनों वेदोंमें कहे हुए सकाम धर्मका आश्रय लिये हुए भोगोंकी कामना करनेवाले मनुष्य आवागमनको प्राप्त होते हैं।
Having enjoyed the extensive heaven -world, they return to this world of mortals on the stock of their merits being exhausted. Thus devoted to the ritual with interested motive, recommended by the three Vedas as the means of attaining heavenly bliss, and seeking worldly enjoyments, they repeatedly come and go (i.e., ascend to heaven by virtue of their merits and return to earth when their fruit has been enjoyed). (9:21)
क्षीणे पुण्ये मत्र्यलोकं विशन्ति।
एवं त्रयीधर्ममनुप्रपन्ना-
गतागतं कामकामा लभन्ते॥ २१॥
वे उस विशाल स्वर्गलोकके (भोगोंको) भोगकर पुण्य क्षीण होनेपर मृत्युलोकमें आ जाते हैं। इस प्रकार तीनों वेदोंमें कहे हुए सकाम धर्मका आश्रय लिये हुए भोगोंकी कामना करनेवाले मनुष्य आवागमनको प्राप्त होते हैं।

हे अर्जुन! (संसारके हितके लिये) मैं (ही) सूर्यरूपसे तपता हूँ, मैं (ही) जलको ग्रहण करता हूँ और (फिर उस जलको) (मैं ही) वर्षारूपसे बरसा देता हूँ। (और तो क्या कहूँ) अमृत और मृत्यु तथा सत् और असत् (भी) मैं ही हूँ।
I radiate heat as the sun, and hold back as well as send forth showers, Arjuna. I am immortality as well as death; even so, I am being and also non-being. (9:19)

त्रैविद्या मां सोमपा: पूतपापा-यज्ञैरिष्ट्वा स्वर्गतिं प्रार्थयन्ते।
ते पुण्यमासाद्य सुरेन्द्रलोक-मश्नन्ति दिव्यान्दिवि देवभोगान्॥ २०॥
तीनों वेदोंमें कहे हुए सकाम अनुष्ठान-को करनेवाले (और) सोमरसको पीनेवाले (जो)पापरहित मनुष्य यज्ञोंके द्वारा (इन्द्ररूपसे) मेरा पूजन करके स्वर्ग-प्राप्तिकी प्रार्थना करते हैं, वे (पुण्योंके फलस्वरूप) पवित्र इन्द्रलोकको प्राप्त करके (वहाँ) स्वर्गके दिव्यान्, देवताओंके दिव्य भोगोंको भोगते हैं।
Those who perform action with some interested motive as laid down in these three Vedas and drink the sap of the Soma plant, and have thus been purged of sin, worshipping Me through sacrifices, seek access to heaven; attaining Indra's paradise as the result of their virtuous deeds, they enjoy the celestial pleasures of gods in heaven. (9:20)
ते पुण्यमासाद्य सुरेन्द्रलोक-मश्नन्ति दिव्यान्दिवि देवभोगान्॥ २०॥
तीनों वेदोंमें कहे हुए सकाम अनुष्ठान-को करनेवाले (और) सोमरसको पीनेवाले (जो)पापरहित मनुष्य यज्ञोंके द्वारा (इन्द्ररूपसे) मेरा पूजन करके स्वर्ग-प्राप्तिकी प्रार्थना करते हैं, वे (पुण्योंके फलस्वरूप) पवित्र इन्द्रलोकको प्राप्त करके (वहाँ) स्वर्गके दिव्यान्, देवताओंके दिव्य भोगोंको भोगते हैं।

सततं कीर्तयन्तो मां यतन्तश्च दृढव्रता:।
नमस्यन्तश्च मां भक्त्या नित्ययुक्ता उपासते॥ १४॥
नित्य-निरन्तर (मुझमें) लगे हुए मनुष्य दृढव्रती होकर लगनपूर्वक साधनमें लगे हुए और प्रेमपूर्वक कीर्तन करते हुए तथा मुझे नमस्कार करते हुए निरन्तर मेरी उपासना करते हैं।
Constantly chanting My names and glories and striving for My realization, and bowing again and again to Me, those devotees of firm resolve, ever united with me through meditation, worship Me with single-minded devotion. (9:14)
नमस्यन्तश्च मां भक्त्या नित्ययुक्ता उपासते॥ १४॥
नित्य-निरन्तर (मुझमें) लगे हुए मनुष्य दृढव्रती होकर लगनपूर्वक साधनमें लगे हुए और प्रेमपूर्वक कीर्तन करते हुए तथा मुझे नमस्कार करते हुए निरन्तर मेरी उपासना करते हैं।
Constantly chanting My names and glories and striving for My realization, and bowing again and again to Me, those devotees of firm resolve, ever united with me through meditation, worship Me with single-minded devotion. (9:14)
महात्मानस्तु मां पार्थ दैवीं प्रकृतिमाश्रिता:।
भजन्त्यनन्यमनसो ज्ञात्वा भूतादिमव्ययम्॥ १३॥
परन्तु हे पृथानन्दन! दैवी प्रकृतिके आश्रित अनन्यमनवाले महात्मालोग मुझे सम्पूर्ण प्राणियोंका आदि (और) अविनाशी समझकर (मेरा) भजन करते हैं।
On the other hand, Arjuna, great souls who have adopted the divine nature, knowing Me as the prime source of all beings and the imperishable, eternal, worship Me constantly with one pointedness of mind. (9:13)
भजन्त्यनन्यमनसो ज्ञात्वा भूतादिमव्ययम्॥ १३॥
परन्तु हे पृथानन्दन! दैवी प्रकृतिके आश्रित अनन्यमनवाले महात्मालोग मुझे सम्पूर्ण प्राणियोंका आदि (और) अविनाशी समझकर (मेरा) भजन करते हैं।
On the other hand, Arjuna, great souls who have adopted the divine nature, knowing Me as the prime source of all beings and the imperishable, eternal, worship Me constantly with one pointedness of mind. (9:13)
Just as the boyhood, youth and old age come to the embodied Soul in this body, in the same manner, is the attaining of another body; the wise man is not deluded at that.
अवजानन्ति मां मूढा मानुषीं तनुमाश्रितम्।
परं भावमजानन्तो मम भूतमहेश्वरम्॥ ११॥
मूर्खलोग मेरे सम्पूर्ण प्राणियोंके महान् ईश्वररूप श्रेष्ठभावको न जानते हुए मुझे मानुषीम्, मनुष्यशरीरके आश्रित मानकर अर्थात् साधारण मनुष्य मानकर (मेरी) अवज्ञा करते हैं।
Not Knowing My supreme nature, fools deride Me, the Overlord of the entire creation, who have assumed the human form. That is to say, they take Me, who have appeared in human form through My Yogamaya for deliverance of the world, as an ordinary mortal. (9:11)
परं भावमजानन्तो मम भूतमहेश्वरम्॥ ११॥
मूर्खलोग मेरे सम्पूर्ण प्राणियोंके महान् ईश्वररूप श्रेष्ठभावको न जानते हुए मुझे मानुषीम्, मनुष्यशरीरके आश्रित मानकर अर्थात् साधारण मनुष्य मानकर (मेरी) अवज्ञा करते हैं।
Not Knowing My supreme nature, fools deride Me, the Overlord of the entire creation, who have assumed the human form. That is to say, they take Me, who have appeared in human form through My Yogamaya for deliverance of the world, as an ordinary mortal. (9:11)
मयाध्यक्षेण प्रकृति: सूयते सचराचरम्।
हेतुनानेन कौन्तेय जगद्विपरिवर्तते॥ १०॥
प्रकृति मेरी अध्यक्षतामें चराचरसहित सम्पूर्ण जगत्की रचना करती है। हे कुन्तीनन्दन! इसी हेतुसे जगत्का (विविध प्रकारसे) परिवर्तन होता है।
Arjuna, under My aegis, Nature brings forth the whole creation, consisting of both sentient and insentient beings; it is due to this cause that the wheel of Samsara is going round. (9:10)
हेतुनानेन कौन्तेय जगद्विपरिवर्तते॥ १०॥
प्रकृति मेरी अध्यक्षतामें चराचरसहित सम्पूर्ण जगत्की रचना करती है। हे कुन्तीनन्दन! इसी हेतुसे जगत्का (विविध प्रकारसे) परिवर्तन होता है।
