College of Mechanical, Chemical, and Materials Engineering Signed Key Performance Indicators

The College of Mechanical, Chemical, and Materials Engineering (CoMCME) took a significant step by signing Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) among its departments on February 04, 2025 at the Colleges’ meeting hall. The event was led by Dr. Shimelis Lemma, the Dean of the College of Mechanical, Chemical and Materials Engineering, who emphasized the importance of each department's role in achieving the outlined goals.

Dr. Shimelis Lemma, has signed among the department heads: Dr. Derese Firew from Mechanical Engineering, Mr. Hunegnaw Bile from Chemical Engineering, and Dr. Fikadu Guchile from Material Science and Engineering with the presence of Dr. Feleke Yehuwalashet, Assistance to the Academic Vice President and Dr. Getinet Asrat, Asscociate Dean for CoMCME. Dr. Shimelis highlighted the necessity for all departments to contribute decisively to the activities associated with the KPIs and to ensure timely and high-quality reporting.

Dr. Feleke Yehuwalashet, Assistant to the Academic Vice President, also spoke at the event. He stressed the importance of KPIs in guiding the college's efforts and assured that the Vice President for Academic Affairs would provide support to both individuals and teams to ensure the success of these initiatives.

የአዳማ ሳይንስና ቴክኖሎጂ ዩኒቨርሲቲ የተማሪዎች አገልግሎት ዲን እና የዩንቨርሲቲው የብቃትና የሰው ሀብት አስተዳደር ስራ አስፈፃሚ ለቢሮአቸው የቅርብ ተጠሪ ከሆኑት አመራሮች ጋር የቁልፍ ስራዎች ኮንትራት ተፈራርመዋል፡፡

በዚሁ መሰረት የዩንቨርስቲው የተማሪዎች አገልግሎት ዲን የሆኑት ዶ/ር ጅማ አሰፋ ከሁለት ተባባሪ ዲኖች ማለትም ከተማሪዎች አገልግሎት ተባባሪ ዲን አቶ ኩባ ደፋሩ እና ከተማሪዎች ስብእና ግንባታ ተባባሪ ዲን ከሆኑት ከአቶ ጌታቸው ዘውዴ ጋር ተፈራርመዋል፡፡

በተመሳሳይ ሁኔታ የዩኒቨርሲቲው የብቃትና የሰው ሀብት አስተዳደር ስራ አስፈፃሚ የሆኑት አቶ ታደሰ ጡሪ ከሰው ሐብት አስተዳደር ቡድን መሪ ከሆኑት ከአቶ አማረ ደርቤ ጋር የቁልፍ ሥራዎች ኮንትራት ስምምነቱን ተፈራርመዋል፡፡

በፊርማው ስነ-ስርዓት ላይ በመገኘት ንግግር ያደረጉት የዩኒቨርሲቲው የአስተዳደርና ልማት ምክትል ፕሬዝዳንት የሆኑት ዶ/ር ሰለሞን ጥሩነህ ሲሆኑ ባስተላለፉትም መልእክት ስምምነቱን የተፈራረሙት ወገኖች ለተፈፃሚነቱ ተግተው እንዲሰሩ ያሳሰቡ ሲሆን ተመሳሳይ የኮንትራት ስምምነቶች እስከ ቡድን መሪዎችና ሰራተኞች ድረስ መውረድ እንዳለበት አሳስበዋል፡፡

Vice president for Academic Affairs signed key Performance Contract

Dr. Teshome Abdo, Vice President for Academic Affairs (VPAA) of Adama Science and Technology University (ASTU) officially signed key performance contract (KPC) with the key members of his team on January, 20, 2025 at Borati Hall.
The vice president signed the contract with college deans, directors and coordinators under the academic affairs wing. Dr. Teshome Abdo signed contract with various offices under the academic wing including College of Applied Natural Science, College of Civil Engineering and Architecture College of Electrical Engineering and computing, College of Humanities and Social Science, College of Mechanical, Chemical and Materials Engineering College of Academic Program Director, Registrar ,School of Graduate Studies, Institute of Continuing Education, Education Quality and Enhancement Directorate, E-Learning Administration Directorate, Library Service Directorate, College Managing Directorate, Student Skill Development Coordinator and Freshman Division Program Coordinator.

The event was attended by Dr. Lami Guta, President of ASTU, Dr. Solomon Tiruneh, VPAD and Professor Yadessa Melaku, CEO of President Office; among others. Dr. Lami Guta noted that there is a need to share responsibilities among the deans, directors, coordinators and other workers to ensure the effective implementation of the KPIs.
Finally, Dr. Lami Guta underscored that every member the university must carry out tasks efficiently and report their progress as outlined in their contract. This approach aims to bring up both individual growth and institutional development, ensuring that ASTU continues to thrive in its mission.

Book launching ceremony
ASTU Community Engagement Office and Culture and Tourism Office of East Shoa Zone organized an ethnographic book launching ceremony at Dalol Hotel in Adama city. The book was launched in a grand ceremony attended by representatives of Adama Science and Technology University, delegates of East Shawa administration and members of Karayu community as well as other invited guests.
The book is titled The Karayu Oromo Gadaa system .The authors are Mr. Ginbar Negera (PhD candidate) and Dr. Amenu Oljra, from the College of Humanities and Social Sciences. The book presents the lifestyle, culture and tradition of the Karayu Oromo. It also subsumes socio-economic and political values of the Karayu. The book explores the history of the Oromo, the form and organization of the Gada system, as well as historical places and culture of the Karayu.
The book was officially opened for reading by Dr. Dereje Regasa, Dean of Community Engagement Directorate of ASTU, Mr. Guta Gada, Deputy Administrator of East Shewa Zone Administration, and Mrs. Sumaya, Usman Head of Culture and Tourism Office of East Shewa Zone.
Mr. Guta Gada, the Deputy Administrator of East Shewa Zone Administration, noted that the Karayu have played a great role in preserving the Gada System and the culture of the Oromo people. Mr. Guta added that the launching of the book that explores the Karayu Oromo Gada system and lifestyle will help to preserve and transmit the history of the Karayu community to the next generation, and will allow the community to play a positive role in the process of nation building. Mr. Guta also expressed his appreciation to ASTU for sponsoring the book.

Adama Science and Technology University Hosts Major Programming Contest
Adama Science and Technology University (ASTU) held the Ethiopian Collegiate Programming Contest (ECPC) in partnership with the African Collegiate Programming Contest (ACPC) and the International Collegiate Programming Contest (ICPC). This event was meant to bring together university students and enhance their programming skills, algorithmic thinking, and teamwork.
Participants were selected from various Technology and Engineering programs, representing universities such as ASTU, Addis Ababa Science and Technology University (AASTU), Addis Ababa University (AAU), Arsi University (AU), Wollo University (WU), and HiLCoE, a private college specializing in computer Science and Technology. Out of 71 teams competing, ASTU fielded 30 teams, nearly half of the total participants.
Mr. Desta Zerihun, chief coordinator of the program representing ASTUCollegiate Programming Contest, noted that the contest not only fosters programming talent but also plays a significant role in Ethiopia's digital transformation. The top teams will advance to the ACPC and ICPC finals, showcasing their skills on a larger stage. The competition lasted five intense hours, testing the participants' problem-solving abilities under pressure.
This event marks a significant step in promoting programming education and collaboration among students in Ethiopia.

ASTU Cities Alliance Project Office organizes dialogue on, “Investment & Decent Work in Secondary Cities: Adama & Secondary Cities in focus”
The participants of the dialogue are drawn from Oromia investment, bureau, Cities’ Forum, Industry parks, municipalities, zonal and cities investment offices, entrepreneurship development centsers, women, youth & children affairs offices. On the occasion Dr. Lema Beressa, Vice president for Research & Technology Transfer made the opening speech by welcoming the participants. Dr. Lema highlighted the numerous successful consultancy services provided by ASTU thus far. He noted that Cities Alliances project is one of the successful undertakings of ASTU.
Four presenters made lively presentations on issues pertaining to decent work, the challenges and opportunities pertaining to creating conducive working environment and the status of job creation. The presenters raised a number of thought provoking questions. The dialogue session was very lively in which the status of work and workers' rights and responsibilities were discussed in detail as input for industries and workers’ associations.

የኤ.ፌ.ድ.ሪ የገንዘብ ሚኒስቴር በአዳማ ሳይንስና ቴክኖሎጂ ዩኒቨርሲቲ ውስጥ ለሚገኙ ጉዳዩ ለሚመለከታቸው ስራ አስፈጻሚዎች፣ዳይሬክተሮች፣ ቡድን መሪዎችና ከፍተኛ ባለሙያዎች የተቀናጀ የመንግስት ፋይናንስ አስተዳደር መረጃ ስርዓት (IFMIS, Integrated Financial Management Information System) በሚል የሶፍትዌር የአጠቃቀም ዙሪያ የግንዛቤ ማስጨበጫ ስልጠና ሰጠ፡፡

በስልጠናው የመክፈቻ መርሃ-ግብር ላይ የተገኙት የፕሬዝደንት ጽ/ቤት ዋና ስራ አስፈጻሚ ፕሮፌሰር ያደሳ መላኩ እንደተናገሩት የስልጠናው አላማ የመንግስት ፋይናንስ አስተዳደርን፣የመረጃ አያያዝ ስርዓትንና ሪፖርትን ጉዳዩ ለሚመለከተው አካል በጥራት፣ በጊዜውና ወጥነት ባለው መልኩ ለመላክና አስፈላጊውን የስራ ክትትልና ድጋፍ ለማግኘት እንደሚጠቅም አስረድተዋል፡፡

ፕሮፌሰር ያደሳ ከዚህ ጋር በማያያዝ የአዳማ ሳይንስና ቴክኖሎጂ ዩኒቨርሲቲ አስፈላጊውን የኢንፎርሜሽን ኮሚዩኒኬሽን መሰረተ ልማቶችን በተገቢው መንገድ በማዘጋጀት የIFMIS ተግባራዊነትን ለመፈፀም ዝግጁ መሆኑን አረጋግጠዋል፡፡
ከኤ.ፌ.ድ.ሪ የገንዘብ ሚኒስቴር የመጡባ ለሞያዎች አቶ ኤልያስ ቀኖ፣አቶ ወርቁ ገረመውና አቶ አስራት ግዛቸው ለሰልጣኞች አስፈላጊውን የግንዛቤ ማስጨበጫ ስልጠና በመስጠት መንግስት ከጥቅምት 2017 ዓ.ም ጀምሮ ወደ ትግበራ እንደሚገባ አስረድተዋል፡፡

የአዳማ ሳይንስና ቴክኖሎጂ ዩኒቨርሲቲ የፋይናንስ ስራ አስፈጻሚ የሆኑት ወ/ሮ ፋንቱ ጅብሪል እንደተናገሩት ስልጠናው የመንግስት ስራን ከማቀላጠፉና ከማዘመኑ በተጨማሪ የወረቀት ላይ ስራን በመቀነስ ዘርፈ ብዙ ጥቅሞች እንዳለውና መረጃን ከአንድ ቋት በቀላሉ ለማግነጽ እንደሚረዳ ተናግረዋል፡፡
