Somebody asked how one should self assess if one is the right person to prepare for civil service...very interesting question....


So i posed the question to my batchmates, and this is what one of my friends said :





Self-doubt and anxiety is a confirmation that one is no longer living an aimless life.

I. Regarding Self-assessment: -

The first step towards achieving greatness is questioning yourself through self assessment by any which way such as analysing your past actions where you helped a soul selflessly or where you portrayed an indomitable will to succeed and failed but tried again anyway learning from your mistakes. This is what David Goggins (Book: Can't hurt me) calls as "Cookie Jar" - an inventory of your memories where you displayed the qualities that you seek today so as to draw inspiration from it. (Eg. Remember when you showed at the gym even when you did not want to — Yes! If you did that you can definitely write this 3 hrs long test - You got this!)

II. Regarding Capability: -

After that most important thing is realising that - As Steve Jobs said - "Life can be much broader, once you discover one simple fact, and that is that everything around you that you call 'life' was made up by people that were no smarter than you. And you can change it, you can influence it, you can build your own things that other people can use." Don't over-estimate others and under-estimate yourself - if you do this - You chances will be way better.

Sharing here the true story of a much respected IPS batchmate of mine.I will not be taking the name of the person.But may this inspire us all:


In my 3 mains, I faced one issue after another.

1st Mains- Just two days before the mains, I was defending my friends before the court because they were persecuted by Politicians for unravelling child rapes happening for last 4 months. So, he filed FIR against all.

2nd Mains- Lost my Nana, from whom I got my value syatem, just 10 days before essay paper.

3rd Mains(our batch)- lost my father due to COVID Delta wave.

Day in and Day out seeing injustices in legal career can shake anyone to the core.

Sometimes, I feel struggle of not completing NCERTs/Mocks is a kind of "privileged struggle".

PS: Life surprises you anywhich way it can 🙏🏻

Getting the tag of IAS/IPS should not bring arrogance or high mighty feeling.

Let us make human beings treat another human being as a human being. Life is too transient.
