The report included testimony from a fellow prisoner who knew Dr. Al-Bursh in Gaza. The testimony, provided to lawyers from the zionist organization "HaMoked," stated:
"In mid-April 2024, Dr. Adnan Al-Bursh arrived at Section 23 of 'Ofer' Prison. Prison guards brought him in a dire state. It was clear he had been assaulted, with visible injuries on his body, and he was naked from the waist down. The guards threw him into the center of the yard and left him there. Dr. Adnan Al-Bursh could not stand. One of the prisoners helped him to a room, but moments later, cries came from the room announcing that Dr. Adnan Al-Bursh had died."
This is being regarded as a deliberate assassination. To date, the results of the investigation announced by occupation authorities into his death have not been released, and Dr. Al-Bursh’s body remains withheld.
Dr. Al-Bursh (50 years old) insisted on continuing his work despite threats at Al-Shifa Hospital when the war began in October last year. When the IOF targeted it, he moved north to the Indonesian Hospital in Beit Lahia. When that too became a battleground, he moved to Al-Awda Hospital in Jabalia refugee camp, north of Gaza City, in December 2023. He remained in detention for four months until his martyrdom.
Yasmin Al-Bursh, the doctor’s wife, told Palestinian journalists that her husband only returned home briefly during a one-week ceasefire at the end of November. He then returned to work. She recounted:
"He would call me whenever he could and ask about our six children. I begged him to come home, but he insisted on staying with his patients."
Under unclear circumstances, the IOF arrested Dr. Al-Bursh in December.
Eyewitnesses told his family that when occupation forces arrived at Al-Awda Hospital, they ordered him to come down to the hospital courtyard. He was not seen in Gaza again after that. According to zionist newspaper Haaretz, an IOF army spokesperson stated that Dr. Al-Bursh was documented at an IOF military detention center on December 19 before being transferred the next day to "Kishon" Detention Center for "security prisoners" near Haifa. The spokesperson added: “He was no longer under the responsibility of the 'israeli' army after that.”
According to the newspaper, after being interrogated by Shin Bet at the facility, Dr. Al-Bursh was transferred to "Ofer" Prison, managed by the occupation Prison Service.
The occupation Prison Service refused to confirm or deny any details about Dr. Al-Bursh, only stating that it does not comment on the circumstances of the death of detainees or security prisoners who are not "israeli" citizens.
The occupation continues to withhold hundreds of detainees from Gaza. Since October 7th, the total number of known martyred detainees inside IOF prisons and concentration camps has risen to 43.
More than 1,000 doctors, nurses, and health sector personnel have been martyred and hundreds of them have been injured since the beginning of the aggression on the Gaza Strip.
