🔔PAY COMMISSION🔔
• Neither a Constitutional nor Statutory body.
• a body set up by the Central Government that reviews and recommends changes to the salary structure of employees.
• composition of the Pay Commission comes under the Department of Expenditure (Ministry of Finance).
• Usually constituted every 10 years
• 1st pay commission was set up in 1946.
• Since Independence, a total of 7 pay commissions have been formed.
• latest pay commission was set up in 2014 and its recommendations came into effect in 2016.
• It is not mandatory for the government to accept the recommendations of the pay commission.
• It consults with central and state governments, along with other stakeholders, before recommending salary structures, benefits, and allowances for government employees.
• The Union Cabinet has approved the 8th Pay Commission on Thursday 16th January 2025.

🔔SMART CITIES MISSION (SCM)
• Centrally Sponsored Scheme launched in 2015.

• total Central assistance for the Smart Cities Mission was ₹48,000 crore.

++ Tiger Reserves in India

• Legally declared protected areas designated to conserve tigers and their habitats.

• The tiger reserves were set up as a part of Project Tiger initiated in 1973.

• They are administered by the National Tiger Conservation Authority ( NTCA).

• As of December 2024, there are 57 tiger reserves in India.

• The tiger reserves are constituted on a core/buffer strategy.

• Tiger Reserves are notified by State Governments as per provisions of the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972 on advice of the National Tiger Conservation Authority.

• Tiger is an umbrella species.

• India is home to 75% of the global tiger population.

• NTCA conducts a tiger census across India every 4 years.

- Wildlife Protection Act : Schedule 1

• NEWLY ADDED :: On December 2, India got its 57th tiger reserve in Madhya Pradesh’s Ratapani Wildlife Sanctuary.

++ About Ratapani Tiger Reserve ::

• Location – It is situated in the Vindhyachal Mountain Ranges across Raisen and Sehore districts of Madhya Pradesh.

• Origin : It was first declared a wildlife sanctuary in 1976, extended in 1983.

• Rivers - It runs parallel on the northern side of the Narmada River. The Kolar River forms the western boundary of the Sanctuary.
