And here's my research on different legends and stories associated with the Orlov Diamond!
The Orlov Diamond started its journey in the Golconda mines in India and ended up in the scepter of the Russian Empress Catherine the Great.
It is now hosted in the Diamond Fund of the Moscow Kremlin in Russia!

Dear friends, we continue our tour through the museums of the Moscow Kremlin and today we are going to explore the Diamond fund - the permanent exhibition of the Armoury Chamber, where you can find the biggest, most beautiful and rare gems ever found in nature, which were turned into famous chef-d'oevres of the jewellery art!

One of the items of the Diamond fund is the scepter of Catherine the Great - the Russian Empress, who ruled the country for 34 years in the 18th century.

💎The scepter is decorated with the Orlov diamond weighing 189.62 carats. This is the largest diamond in the collection of historical precious stones of the Diamond Fund of the Russian Federation.

The history of "Orlov" begins at the end of the 16th - beginning of the 17th century in the mines of Golconda, one of the richest Indian mines.

Its first owner was Shah Jahan, the ruler of the Mughal Empire who built the Taj Mahal. Back then the diamond was cut in the form of an “Indian rose” with 180 small facets arranged in tiers.

After the coups d'état of India and then Persia, “Orlov” began to wander around the world and acquire legends - one of them says that the diamond served as the “eye” of a statue of a deity and was stolen by the cunning Europeans.

In the 18th century, the jewel fell into the hands of a wealthy merchant Grigory Safras, who sold it to the Russian Count Orlov.

Orlov was one of the participants in the coup d'état, as a result of which Catherine II ascended the Russian throne. In 1773, Count Orlov amazed the empress with an unusual gift: a diamond of unprecedented size. The gem received its current name in the honor of Count Orlov and a place in the Imperial scepter.

This is an absolutely pure and transparent crystal with a subtle bluish-green tint, retaining its original historical cut.

Dear followers, today we are going to talk about one of the museums of the Moscow Kremlin - the Armoury Chamber.

The Armoury Chamber, a treasure house, is a part of the Grand Kremlin Palace's complex. It is situated in the building constructed in 1851 by the famous architect Konstantin Ton.

The museum collections were based on the precious items that had been preserved for centuries in the tsars' treasury and the Patriarch’s vestry. Some of the exhibits were made in the Kremlin workshops, others were accepted as ambassadorial gifts. The museum was named after one of the oldest Kremlin's treasury.

The Armoury Chamber preserves ancient State regalia, ceremonial royal garment and coronation dresses, vestments of the Russian Orthodox Church Hierarchs, the largest collection of gold- and silverware made by Russian craftsmen, West European artistic silver, ceremonial arms and armour, carriages and horse ceremonial harness.

The State Armoury presents more than four thousands items of applied art made in Russia, European and Eastern countries in the 4th to early 20th century. The highest artistic level and particular historical and cultural value of the exhibits have made the State Armoury of the Moscow Kremlin a world-wide known museum.

Dear followers, most of your got it right!!! Congratulation!!

Sforza castle was taken as a prototype for the Moscow Kremlin!!
In fact Moscow Kremlin was built by the Italian architects - Aristotele Fioravanti, Petrus Antonius Solarius, Marcus Ruffus.

One of them - Aristotele Fioravanti – was working for Francesco Sforza and took part in the reconstruction of the Sforza castle in Milan, that took part in the XV century.

Aristotele Fioravanti was invited by the Russian Tsar Ivan III to reconstruct the Moscow Kremlin. The architect built the cental cathedral of the Kremlin - the Assumption Cathedral.

Fioravanti was also an experienced fortification engineer and it was him who created the plan of the walls and towers of the Moscow Kremlin.

Aristotele Fioravanti arrived to Russia in 1475, when he was 60 years of age and he spent the rest of his life there.

Dear followers, we continue our journey in time, history and art and today we are going to speak about Sforza Castle in Milan, Italy. We have recently spoken about Leonardo da Vinci and his best pupil Francesco Melzi and today we are going to see how Sforza Castle lead to a meeting of those two greatest artists.

On the right there is a portrait of Leonardo da Vinci by Francesco Melzi, on the right - Francesco Melzi himself, portraited by another pupil of Leonardo - Giovanni Boltraffio

I wanted to talk about him not just because I am absolutely in love with his painting - Flora, that we've seen yesterday, but also because Melzi and his family played a very important role in tranferring the knowledge accumulated by Leonardo to the future generations.

Francesco Melzi (1491–1567), was born into a noble milanese family. He became the pupil of Leonardo at the age of 15 and remained with him until the end of his life.

Actually, he was among very few people who was with Leonardo at his deathbed.

After da Vinci's death he became the executor of all da Vinci's papers, editing them into a manuscript on painting known as Trattato della Pittura [Treatise on Painting] or a compilation entitled the Codex Urbinas.

Before the manuscript was published, students made at least five hand-written copies from Melzi's original, some of which are currently held in the Elmer Belt Library of Vinciana at the UCLA library. Melzi loaned out these pre-publication versions of Leonardo's work to scholars of the time, such as Vasari, Lomazzo, Antonio Gaddiano, Cardano, among others; their names are inscribed on numerous surviving manuscript copies.

The copies of Francesco's original manuscript were the sources that did later lead to the preparation and printing of the actual published document

Leonardo resided with the Melzi family during the so called second Milanese period which is considered to be his most creative years in art and canal engineering. This is the time when he created the engineering plans for the Martesana Canal, which was completed and is still in use.
