Images of the last public death penalty in France, held on June 17, 1939. The decision to ban such events was taken because of the shocking behavior of the crowd: before the execution, people behaved noisily and intemperately, and afterwards tried to break through the cordon to soak handkerchiefs in the blood of the executed.

The scene made such a strong impression that the French president banned public executions, claiming that they aroused baser instincts rather than deterring crime.

The gargoyles on the facades of Gothic churches are usually arranged so that rainwater runs off the roofs through their mouths. However, one of the gargoyles at Freiburg Münster clings to the wall with its hands and feet, and the water flows out through its back passage. According to urban legend, during the construction of the cathedral, the city council raised the demands on the masons without increasing their pay. In response, the craftsmen did the work, but installed this sculpture in front of the windows of the city council.
